Things in your house that you seem to be the only one bloody capable of

Putting the recycling out. We can have a kitchen full of the stuff to the point where we can’t put anything on the worktops, but he still won’t take it the three steps out of the back door and put it in the recycling bin.

Taking the old loo roll off the holder, replacing it with a fresh one and putting the used one into the bathroom bin which is directly, within arm’s reach, next to the toilet.

Taking clean dishes and cutlery out of the dishwasher to use. I mean, if you’re too lazy to bloody empty it, at least use clean stuff out of it rather than get more out of the cupboards.

When dumping dirty dishes on the worktop, reaching a hand down a few inches, opening the dishwasher door and checking whether it has been emptied or not.

Putting shoes in the shoe rack which is directly next to the front door as you step in. Oh no, shoes have to go on the other side of the door in the way.

Moving things aside and looking behind things before asking me where something is when trying to find something in the cupboard. If it’s not within immediate Iline it doesn’t exist.

There are two of us in this house, yet I seem to be the only one capable of performing these minor tasks. Is it too much to ask?

Everything you listed OP plus the dog care for me. We are three DH and DD16 - I went on strike recently as I had enough. I wfh well before the pandemic and still am! Things get out of hand if I don't do one of the million other things that I do- so I went on strike left it all so the house was all mess. On my DH off day he spent all day cleaning doing stuff- I must say this lasted a day or two- back to normal again ConfusedConfusedShock

Turning TV off when not wstching/going out, turning lights off when you go out, rinsing bath out after you, folding clean towels nicely in a pile where they go instead of hurling them in a heap, replacing loo roll, chucking empty looroll in bin, putting Looroll on holder, putting toothpaste top back on, leaving the goddamn fucking bath plug in the bathroom where it belongs, putting shoes on the shoe rack in a pair neatly, picking up floor towel and hanging it to dry, clearing up their own crumbs and sugar, letting the dog out for a wee late at night/middle of night/early in morning, putting their dirty laundry IN not On top of the laundry basket. Wiping the toilet and cleaning it sigh...

Cooking
Food shopping
Clearing the fridge
Cleaning or wiping surfaces.
Washing and drying clothes.
Tidying
Meal planning.
Planning or prep work of any kind.
Budgeting.
.........thinking!

Stop completing these tasks and let those dishes stack up! You are doing your child no favours by acting like their servant.
Repeatedly call them back when the task has not been fulfilled. Repeatedly. It won't take long before their tiny mind realises it's just quicker to put their shoes on the rack immediately.
Of all the tasks you list, only emptying the dishwasher takes longer than not emptying the dishwasher IF SOMEONE ELSE THEN EMPTIES IT ANYWAY. So stop emptying it and hope you don't get mice.

Seriously, too many martyrs on here

"He doesn't see mess". Oh, he absolutely does, but either (a) he thinks it's your job to skivvy, or (b) your way isn't the only way. Perhaps the sky wouldn't fall in if a few toilet rolls don't make it to the bin immediately

@ShirleyPhallus

Bannisters/doorknobs would be a health hazard as he doesn't even know they need cleaning (and our cleaners don't either!). Ditto, things like backs of doors/radiators etc would all be filthy because he honestly has no idea this needs doing.

Hang on what, people clean their doorknobs and the backs of doors?!

Yes. Not weekly, but, you know, fairly often. Ditto bannisters.... (our doors all have those slightly annoying insets though that collect dust. In any future house I'm buying plain, smooth doors!)

Same here with the toilet roll. We have a bin directly beside the toilet yet nobody seems capable of placing the empty toilet roll tubes in it and absolutely no one ever replaces the toilet roll when they’ve finished one except me. Drives me mad.

For some reason nobody washes their cutlery up? They wash the bowl/plate but leave the cutlery in the sink. It’s got so bad I’ve put a note on the cupboard door beside the sink saying ‘cutlery is not an optional extra- Wash. It. Up.

People would rather put recycling on the floor beside the indoor recycling bin than empty the recycling bin when it’s full so that’s always on me too.

Sometimes I place things on the stairs for people to take up as they pass but it’s like nobody ever sees these things and they will just step over them until I directly ask them to take them up.
