To think I’m an adult and can have Easter Eggs early if I want?

I’m not religious in the slightest. I will hands up admit that I stopped associating Easter with the religious aspect long ago. I do have a baby though and do plan to give Easter a significance for her. About new life, flowers starting to grow, brighter days coming etc. And she’ll get to have eggs. But for me, Easter Eggs are just chocolate.

Since they came out in the shops I’ve been treating myself to one a week. I don’t have much other chocolate or pudding (for some reason I find bars sickly but love eggs). I tend to get the premium ones (so Lindt, or one of the bigger Cadbury ones) and will eat it over the course of a few days. DH is from a very Catholic country where commercial chocolate eggs aren’t a thing, and he’s started doing it as well. DD is 4 months it’s hardly like I’m setting her an example of gluttony. It’s just a nice treat for me, a yummy chocolate egg and some truffles/smaller chocolates included. I’ve been doing it since uni and it’s a tradition for me now, an egg a week until they stop being sold. Once DD is older and more aware I will stop obviously as I wouldn’t want to ruin Easter eggs for her.

But for now, I don’t feel bad. It’s my money that I use to buy the eggs, so it’s my prerogative, surely? I am literally harming nobody.

Today I was in Tesco with DD and was in the egg aisle trying to decide on one. Took one off the shelf and put it in the trolley. Turned around and an old man was giving me a disgusted look. I sort of smiled at him and said “Well what do they expect selling them this early?”. He tutted at me and walked off. I was a bit stunned.

I find it ridiculous, it’s chocolate in an egg shape. We don’t ban oranges so that they can only be used for christingles do we?

Of course you can do thus if you want.

Obviously you'll be responsible for causing the sky to fall in, but you're still free to make that choice. 😉

Easter egg chocolate is the best kind of chocolate. I had really bad HG with my pregnancy (and had a devastating aversion to chocolate) which ran over Easter so I made sure to stock up on eggs to enjoy once DC was born

GTAlogic · 13/02/2022 19:08

Yanbu. I haven't had any Easter eggs yet but I do love those malteaster bunnies and those kitkat bunnies. Those small eggs chocolate eggs filled with like a ganache type stuff that came as a pack of 4 in a little egg box were delicious until they started adulterating them with Oreos.

caringcarer · 13/02/2022 19:13

You can do whatever makes you happy OP.

FoamBurst · 13/02/2022 19:20

I've eaten many many eggs since they came out in the shops. I Try to buy early for the dcs for their egg hunt and spreads the cost. But myself and dh have eaten all of them. Probably between 16 and 20 of them! And they're on my list to buy more tomorrow.

dworky · 13/02/2022 19:23

Easter eggs are simply shaped chocolate so eat as many as you like, whenever you like but, as a frugal person I think yabu as it's more expensive per weight.

Ponoka7 · 13/02/2022 19:28

He hasn't quite got over being able to tell people probably particularly women, off for the lack of masks. So he's picking on something else.

GalactatingGoddess · 13/02/2022 19:34

Easter eggs are amazing but I overindulge them so often have to limit myself to strictly at the Easter weekend otherwise I would 100% eat them everyday.

I like to get a giant Cadbury or Lindt one and drink tea from it so it goes melty.

SartresSoul · 13/02/2022 19:43

You must be very active or have a high metabolism, I think I’d pile on weight if I had a big Lindt Easter egg every week! Anyway, whatever makes you happy really. You’re not harming anyone so crack on.

MindyStClaire · 13/02/2022 19:48

YANBU at all, we buy the £1 ones every week.

AdobeWanKenobi · 13/02/2022 19:51

TBH, it's not behaviour I'd associate with adulthood particularly

Oh gracious! Absolutely! I have James bring the finest Belgian chocolate flown in especially when I fancy a snack, being especially careful not to get any on my twinset and pearls as I gently nibble of course.
Easter Eggs once a week indeed. How unbecoming.

Chely · 13/02/2022 19:57

Easter eggs are a bit of an expensive way to enjoy chocolate but if that's what you like, crack on.

Chishnfips · 13/02/2022 20:00

No-one saves the Roses til Christmas day so why bother saving the eggs till Easter Sunday?

BeetyAxe · 13/02/2022 20:11

I wouldn’t do it because I like the build up and excitement of waiting until Easter Sunday and getting tore into them all, it’s glorious. To me it’s like opening your presents before christmas morning which I wouldn’t do either. But you can if it doesn’t ruin the treat for you.

Rivermonsters · 13/02/2022 20:11

Can you acc buy them now? They best sell them in co op…

marqueses · 13/02/2022 20:25

@Chishnfips

No-one saves the Roses til Christmas day so why bother saving the eggs till Easter Sunday?
That's not the same thing at all, Roses aren't anything to do with Christmas Confused
GrumpyPanda · 13/02/2022 20:25

@Plexie

I would have thought the cost per 100g would be higher than buying a normal bar or packet. Is it the thinness of the chocolate in egg shell form that you prefer over bars of chocolate?

You are unreasonable, however, to think eggs, bunnies and spring flowers are religious - they're about celebrating spring.

Celebrating spring IS religious - think fertility rites. Why did you think it was eggs and bunnies in the first place?
LynetteScavo · 13/02/2022 21:53

I think as it's not lent yet, you're technically eating eggs very late, rather than early.

AllOfUsAreDead · 13/02/2022 22:08

I've been trying to stop myself buying Easter eggs early but don't think I will now knowing there are other weirdoes out there. Thank you! Grin
