To think I’m an adult and can have Easter Eggs early if I want?

Chocolattay · 13/02/2022 17:14

I’m not religious in the slightest. I will hands up admit that I stopped associating Easter with the religious aspect long ago. I do have a baby though and do plan to give Easter a significance for her. About new life, flowers starting to grow, brighter days coming etc. And she’ll get to have eggs. But for me, Easter Eggs are just chocolate.

Since they came out in the shops I’ve been treating myself to one a week. I don’t have much other chocolate or pudding (for some reason I find bars sickly but love eggs). I tend to get the premium ones (so Lindt, or one of the bigger Cadbury ones) and will eat it over the course of a few days. DH is from a very Catholic country where commercial chocolate eggs aren’t a thing, and he’s started doing it as well. DD is 4 months it’s hardly like I’m setting her an example of gluttony. It’s just a nice treat for me, a yummy chocolate egg and some truffles/smaller chocolates included. I’ve been doing it since uni and it’s a tradition for me now, an egg a week until they stop being sold. Once DD is older and more aware I will stop obviously as I wouldn’t want to ruin Easter eggs for her.

But for now, I don’t feel bad. It’s my money that I use to buy the eggs, so it’s my prerogative, surely? I am literally harming nobody.

Today I was in Tesco with DD and was in the egg aisle trying to decide on one. Took one off the shelf and put it in the trolley. Turned around and an old man was giving me a disgusted look. I sort of smiled at him and said “Well what do they expect selling them this early?”. He tutted at me and walked off. I was a bit stunned.

I find it ridiculous, it’s chocolate in an egg shape. We don’t ban oranges so that they can only be used for christingles do we?

YANBU

We love having them when they’re sold. Must confess to having way more than one a week too! Such better value for money per gram of chocolate too (we get the £1 cadburys ones with a cream egg and medium sized chocolate egg)

SpiderVersed · 13/02/2022 17:19

You do you, mate. Who cares what some grumpy sod in a supermarket thinks?

TheBeastReleased · 13/02/2022 17:19

Yes, I do this too. Although I've not had a proper big one yet this year - just a few cream egg size ones. Perhaps I'll pick a couple up next time I'm in the supermarket. Supposed to be on a diet but haven't really started.

Easter egg chocolate tastes so much nicer than normal chocolate bars. I normally go for Malteaser ones. Last year I bought loads but most had gone well before Easter so then I had to buy more to give to people. They're expensive for the amount of chocolate you get in them but it's definitely worth it.

bonetiredwithtwins · 13/02/2022 17:21

Easter eggs are the best! Why limit yourself to Easter weekend! I start early too! I read somewhere that Easter egg chocolate tastes soooo much better than "normal"
Chocolate because it's thickness is just right to melt on your tongue or something like that

Winterfellismyhome · 13/02/2022 17:22

The beauty of being an adult is that you can do whatever you like. Enjoy your Easter eggs op Smile

FionnulaTheCooler · 13/02/2022 17:22

Are you sure he was giving you a funny look over buying an Easter egg? I was at the supermarket today and saw several people buying Easter eggs, didn't think anything of it, seems weird that anyone would care that much about someone else's shopping.

Plexie · 13/02/2022 17:22

I would have thought the cost per 100g would be higher than buying a normal bar or packet. Is it the thinness of the chocolate in egg shell form that you prefer over bars of chocolate?

You are unreasonable, however, to think eggs, bunnies and spring flowers are religious - they're about celebrating spring.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 13/02/2022 17:23

He probably assumed you were buying it to give the baby. Not that that makes it ,z no excuse for this sort of judgement

But we didn't need the backstory- the man clearly wasn't judging the weekly egg eating as he wouldn't even know about it.

CJay81 · 13/02/2022 17:24

Tesco had the small ones for 75p the other day, couldnt resist getting a couple at that price. Not sure they'll last till Easter though lol

Fedupsotired · 13/02/2022 17:25

I'm wondering if because you feel like you shouldn't get an Easter egg you imagined the man tutting at you? Loads were buying them in the supermarket today and no one was tutting!!

HandWash · 13/02/2022 17:26

I doubt he was judging your Easter egg consumption Confused He wouldn't know why you were buying them and was in the Easter egg section himself.

Were you wearing pyjamas? Or opening and eating food on your way round the store? Wink

TempName01 · 13/02/2022 17:28

I eat loads of them, the chocolate is much nicer and better for dunking in a cuppa, yum 😃

SpaceDetective · 13/02/2022 17:31

Such better value for money per gram of chocolate too

This isn't usually the case, it's much cheaper to buy a bar of chocolate than the equivalent Easter Egg.

TokyoSushi · 13/02/2022 17:33

Bloomin love Easter eggs, we buy and eat them as soon as they're out in the shops!

Chocolattay · 13/02/2022 17:34

Backstory is because it’s a sort-of lighthearted chatter thread.

He definitely did tut at me and was staring. At first I thought I was in his way.

Whether you can does not assume that you should. I don't want to see Easter food in the shops in January, or indeed Christmas stuff in September. OP exercising her choice makes it more likely.

Darbs76 · 13/02/2022 17:35

I’d be the size of a house if I started before Easter weekend!

Chocolattay · 13/02/2022 17:36

They deffo taste nicer but I’m not sure what it is. I find bars so so sickly and when DH brings one home for himself I put it out of my sight. But eggs, I just adore them.

They got me through lockdown 1. The shops had a massive surplus of them for cheap and I picked up lovely expensive ones during my weekly shop and absolutely indulged.

Ive Already had one, shared with dc. Enjoy!

Bran21 · 13/02/2022 17:37

I bought a dozen the other day in lidl for my kids and nephews and nieces. I store them in back of my wardrobe and when I watch tv often steal one out of my stash. I usually end up going and buying the eggs over and over until easter because my kids and husband also dip in and eat one.

Chocolattay · 13/02/2022 17:37

I’d say the only aspect I feel guilty about is all of the cardboard use.

OP posts:
Bran21 · 13/02/2022 17:39

Nice size in lidl not too big only £1. Theyve got buttons, cream egg and mini eggs.maybe others too in other shops.

Somethingsnappy · 13/02/2022 17:41

YANBU!

Please could someone tell me... Do they, or do they not sell Cadbury's cream eggs all year round?

toomuchlaundry · 13/02/2022 17:41

I hit the mini eggs as soon as they appear in the shops, as do many other people I assume, as there are never any left in the shops by Easter

Somethingsnappy · 13/02/2022 17:42

P.s. I've been buying the bags of mini type eggs op!
