To think I could have diabetes?

Obviously I know nobody can diagnose me on here, just wanting to chat about it before I ask for blood tests.

So - last blood test (about 4 months ago) just showed that I was anaemic.

Since then … past few months I’ve been thirsty constantly - and I don’t mean I just fancy more cups of tea, I mean my mouth is so dry I feel totally dehydrated. I’m drinking tons of bottled water (refilling with tap water before anyone starts).
Obviously I’m peeing a lot more too.

I’ve lost nearly a stone in weight whilst still eating biscuits, crisps, takeaways etc - I have gone teetotal after being binge drinking beer 4 days a week so that could be contributing to weight loss but not this much surely …

I keep going light headed and keep getting headaches. Visual disturbances (like the room suddenly feeling like it’s shaking)

I’m ridiculously fatigued - barely left the sofa yesterday and I’m so irritable.

My grandmother has diabetes.

I’m not overweight. I’m 40.

YABU - not diabetes, give your head a wobble, get your ducks in a row and leave the bastard.
YANBU - yep, sounds a lot like diabetes! Congrats OP!

@Isthisrealisthisnow

Diabetes or not you need a doctor!
She's been to the doctor! RTFT!

Just to add, these are all migraine symptoms that I get too. I read that you get migraines so it could be a prodrome. Look up vestibular and atypical migraines. Obviously get checked out for everything else too as it's a diagnosis of elimination anyway.

My cousin had similar symptoms at a similar age and is slim build. This was Dec 2020, so Gp’s and hospitals super busy with covid. She’s a hairdresser so very busy for Christmas at work. She basically ignored it until she was rushed into A&E and remained in hospital for about 5 days till they got her glucose stable and her insulin right. Her young niece has t1 since about a year old.

Even if it’s not diabetes it’s worrying. Get it checked.

@FloofersGonnaFloof

Biscuits and crap food don't cause T1 diabetes FFS

I didn't say they did. But they're not exactly going to help. Don't be so rude.

OP, glad you are receiving medical attention rather than random suggestions from strangers on the internet.

Sorry I see you’ve seen GP-did they do a finger prick and/or urine dipstick? Can be done in surgery and a result immediately

Londongent · 14/02/2022 19:03

Did they not do a finger prick and DKA test? My symptoms were the same: unquenchable thirst, stone in weight loss, blurry vision, dry skin (legs). I put off (stupidly) going to the doctors until I was made to go to A&E one night. My glucose levels were extremely high and my ketone levels were ++++.
I ended up in hospital for 5 days and I'm sure if I had not gone to A&E that night I would have ended up in a coma

There’s a snobbery about diabetes t2. If you have that then it’s obviously your own fault according to some and you get it because you’re fat. Yes, there’s a correlation. No, it’s not always the case. I genuinely think there should be awareness around this. Good luck with your results op.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 14/02/2022 19:14

There is an increase in t1 diabetes after Covid infection. Definately worth investigating.

RoastedTurnip · 14/02/2022 19:26

Did they check your ketones?

kateluvscats · 14/02/2022 19:28

All the symptoms of severe anaemia too

FunnyGoingsOn · 14/02/2022 21:34

Just for future reference but if you can afford it you could have paid to see a private GP or paid for blood tests. It's not that expensive

Bonnieweejeaniemccall · 16/02/2022 07:28

Hope all goes well today op.

Marvellousmadness · 16/02/2022 07:33

even you dont have it... you are heading down the path of diabetes if ya continue on eating/drinking like that.
