DS1's chum is 18 months through a Grad Role and has just secured another job with a different company

They are incentivised to work in the office 4 days a week by 15% of their salary, with a minimum of £10,000. It's not included in income for pensionable purposes.

AIBU to think this is not normal??

I'm feeling quite old and out of touch Grin

Work from home only works if employees are motivated and self starters who keep the same work ethic as when theyre in the office and dont take the mick. At our organisation theres been a massive drop off in productivity, Im not management but I understand why they're cutting back on WFH - the frustration of trying to get hold of colleagues 'oh can I call you back - just out for a coffee with the kids' or just completely unavailable is very trying. Response times slip to next day etc etc....its just a nightmare.

Hybrid seems a good way to go to me - five days in may be a thing that goes. Not sure what it’ll be like in a few years

Anyone completely wfh now with office space gone?

Wonder if it’s more prevalent in some sectors to do that

As I hate working from home, I need no incentive to go back. In fact, if there was a levy charged on those going into the office, I would probably pay it to save my sanity

Of course the other major issue is that not everyone's home is suitable for working from. All very well if you already had a dedicated study or whatever; less good if you're in shared housing (as a lot of low-level admin-clerical staff are) - or you have a partner who thinks their own work is more important than yours and therefore you should take your laptop into the bathroom if you want peace and quiet or whatever.

@Wreath21

Sounds good to me - an employer who has recognized that paying staff more encourages more loyalty and commitment from them.
Agreed. It's a shame that there are not more employers like this out there. So many employers these days don't appreciate their loyal staff and wonder why the staff turnover is so high. 🤔
