Just that really. Considering having a mirena inserted but worried about weight gain as a side effect as I gained weight on the combination pill previously.

I'm 50, on my second one. No weight gain and no periods. Wish I'd got one earlier!

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/02/2022 06:51

No weight gain, but waiting to have it removed due to constant spotting.

Wannabegreenfingers · 12/02/2022 06:53

None

GlassHalfFull10 · 12/02/2022 07:39

I’ve lost weight since I had mine inserted, but I have tried to a bit so not sure if it’s helped or not.

I love it. The nurse said after 3 months I might not have periods, think she said 30% of women have none. I still had them for 6 months but now they’ve stopped! Absolutely bloody delighted!

Littlebelina · 12/02/2022 07:58

None (actually lost a bit but dd was 3m when got it so was still losing baby weight ). Loved it. No periods, copper coil not really an option for me as really heavy periods before so loving not having them

Cheesewiz · 12/02/2022 08:04

None, but I was very bloated, looked 6 months pregnant until I had it taken out

T00Ts · 12/02/2022 08:06

None at all. And my periods stopped.

TreeLawney · 12/02/2022 08:09

No weight gain but I still get regular periods (they are very light though).

Marylou62 · 12/02/2022 08:47

I've had Mirenas for over 25 years.. Not one period.. Had a few put in with a local anaesthetic in the gynae clinic as I fainted once with the pain..(after a colposcopy so my cervix is scarred) but totally worth it.. Pill not for me as have migraines, allergic to condoms and cap..
I was one of the first women in my surgery who had one fitted...
I've had this one in for 7 years as not used for contraception.. I believe it helped during the menopause...Due out this summer...

Vaxhubsandwich · 12/02/2022 09:09

None, but I ended up taking it out after a year of awful heavy periods and constant spotting/bleeding in between.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 12/02/2022 09:12

None, helps me maintain my weight/ lose weight

LovelaceBiggWither · 12/02/2022 09:14

No weight gain but relentless fatigue. Removed last month and the fatigue is gone.

badgerread · 20/02/2022 19:31

I had mine fitted 6 weeks ago and have gained 6 pounds 😫

Moonface123 · 20/02/2022 19:48

On my third mirena, 12 yrs approx, no weight gain.

Mary46 · 20/02/2022 19:49

Suits me ok just was prone to cysts at times. 3rd coil. It is sore on fitting.

GreenPepperRed · 20/02/2022 20:08

You still get periods if you have the copper coil. The mirena coil you dont get periods

That's not true at all. Depends on the person completely. I ovulated every month and had a 28 day regular cycle with the mirena in.

spicedemerald · 20/02/2022 20:13

None. But I do still have periods-quite heavy ones at that.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 20/02/2022 20:17

None but I still had periods albeit lighter.

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 20/02/2022 20:17

I've put on loads since getting it November 2019, but if I'm brutally honest with myself it's because I've eaten loads. I'm not sure correlation = causation.

CanorCanelloni · 20/02/2022 22:12

place marking

ThanksItHasPockets · 20/02/2022 22:33

None, with the added bonus of no periods.

I’m now on my third, having only had them removed to conceive my children. I found the fittings became easier after I had a vaginal birth.

CanorCanelloni · 20/02/2022 22:37

I'm turning 50 in July, still regular periods, very heavy and painful. Is the Mirena an option for me? Or am I too old or too near Meno?

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/02/2022 22:42

@CanorCanelloni you are definitely not to old for a mirena and should discuss the pros and cons with a GP.

Change123today · 20/02/2022 22:52

I did put weight on (could also been an age thing!) but it’s changed my life. So I’ll take the weight gain! Being able to not worry every time I was in my period (very heavy) & suffering from endometriosis for near on 15 years. Took about 6 months to settle (spotting etc) but completely different to what I was enduring before so I was happy to see it out!
I have tried to loose weight - before I’ve always been slim so can carry the extra weight okish.

gogohm · 20/02/2022 22:54

Well I have but it is probably more to do with lockdown!
