I’m sleeping on the sofa every night

Our 3 year old DS starts off in his own bed and always comes in with us. Sometimes it can be 3an or or 4am. But usually it’s about 11:30/midnight.

I can’t sleep in the bed with him as he kicks and wriggles and spreads right out. So I his dad stays in the big bed with him instead.

Therefore I end up on the sofa pretty much every night. We only have a small house so our main room is the one we eat in…so I’m eating, watching TV, sitting and also sleeping in the same room.
And starting to resent it, as you can imagine.
His bedroom is in the attic so he’s a floor above us, which he doesn’t seem to like when he wakes up in the night. He just won’t settle back in there when he knows we are downstairs on the next level.

Not sure what to do next really.

LOL at everyone ‘why not sleep in his bed’ - fairly obvious it’s because his bed is suitable for a three year old!

Then buy the 3yo a bigger bed? No reason he can't sleep in a single or even a double.

Can your DH go on the sofa half the time? Maybe if it's just you and toddler in bed there would be enough space for both of you?

TBH it didn't occur to me that he wouldn't be in a full sized single bed. Toddelr beds are a waste of money because they aren't in them for very long.

Why can't you Just get a single bed that you sleep in with him for his room and get rid of the toddler bed? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Unfortunately he will keep doing it until you tell him otherwise. My daughter did the same and it was exhausting. One night something snapped inside me and I decided that she was to sleep in her own bed so when she woke up I would calmly take her back to her own bed. I had to do this continuinly for about 2-3 weeks and was hard but better in the long run. Hope u get some sleep
Soon

I think if you and your DH aren't willing to keep putting him back to bed (not judging - completely get the sleep deprivation!) and you can't sleep in his bed - what about buying a sofa bed to replace your couch? At least that way you're sleeping on a bed at night instead of being squashed up on the sofa?

Or as others have said, get your Son a bigger bed, a normal single would do and would allow you to have a bed to go to if he ends up in your bed
