AIBU to say no to these sausages?

DH has found some Richmond vegetarian sausages in the freezer that went out of date in June last year. On the back of the packaging it says freeze 2 days before use by date and then consume within 1 month. He thinks they’ll be fine! I’m worried that I’ll be spending the next two nights looking at the bathroom door or worse the inside of the toilet bowl? Tell me IANBU please

Totally fine. I just opened up a package of string cheese that I had frozen in June of 2019, they are actually better than the fresh ones I’m currently eating 😳!

WhisperGold · 10/02/2022 20:14

It wouldnt do any harm to chuck them in the bin, either.

Dixiechickonhols · 10/02/2022 20:14

100% fine I wouldn’t even give it a thought. They aren’t nice though.

Wnkingawalrus · 10/02/2022 20:14

@Coughee

I wouldn't unless I was starving and I had no choice. Its use by not best before and its waaaaay out of date. A week or so I'd chance it but not months and months. Why risk it?
Do you understand what a freezer does?
DramaAlpaca · 10/02/2022 20:15

I'd eat them, it's totally fine.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/02/2022 20:16

Why are there so many threads about best before dates of frozen stuff at the moment?

I can’t really believe anyone actually checks this. If it doesn’t have freezer burn it will be absolutely fine.

Richmond sausages on the other hand - 70% paper shavings, 15% rusk, 15% arseholes

Suzi888 · 10/02/2022 20:16

I wouldn’t. I have a delicate tum.

Suzi888 · 10/02/2022 20:17

@ShirleyPhallus they’re vegetarian - they’re arsehole free 🤣

Pedalpushers · 10/02/2022 20:18

Use by dates don't apply to frozen food! What would be the point of putting something in a freezer if it did?

Vegetarian arseholes…. Carrot rings then

OneTC · 10/02/2022 20:21

I would be on it like vomit 👍

PuppyMonkey · 10/02/2022 20:22

I bloody love a Richmond veggie sausage.

Zazdar · 10/02/2022 20:24

I’d eat them.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/02/2022 20:25

I think they’ll be fine but I said yanbu because you’re quite within your rights not to eat them!

Tigertigertigertiger · 10/02/2022 20:25

They’ll be fine but won’t taste as good as real sausages 😬

exexpat · 10/02/2022 20:25

Out-of-date frozen stuff won't make you ill (bacteria don't grow in the freezer...) but it might be tasteless and dried out. Make sure you have plenty of vegetarian gravy to go with them.

Oblomov22 · 10/02/2022 20:27

They'll be fine.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/02/2022 20:34

I routinely keep real meat in the freezer for way longer than the recommended timescales and it has never done me any harm. Never done the meat any harm either - I've only had stuff get ruined in the freezer if it wasn't sealed properly.

Suzi888 · 10/02/2022 20:37

@ShirleyPhallus 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm jewish so don't eat pig - my boyfriend said they're a pretty fool-proof vegan alternative!
CaptainMyCaptain · 10/02/2022 21:16

They'll be fine.

@Creativebee

Vegetarian Sausages? Tasteless and dried out? Why bother? just have beans on toast.
PigletJohn · 10/02/2022 21:31

You should bin them

because Richmiond sausages are horrible, filled with a wet pink slurry.
