Basically my AIBU is AIBU to be scared shitless. I had a missed call at the end of the day and then a voicemail quickly followed. It was the GP receptionist saying 'nothing to be worried about, but can you please make an appointment from 8am when we open in the morning?'
I note that she said nothing to worry about, but she would say that wouldn't she? I've not been to the doctors recently, not had any bloods taken to have results back from...nothing I can think of!

They will be checking addresses and that you are still on their register, maybe chasing your flu or covid vaccination?

Redglitter · 09/02/2022 18:23

Shes specifically said not to worry to reassure you. She wouldn't have said that if it was something awful.

There's probably nothing anyone can say to reassure you but realistically if you've not seen a doctor or had tests recently it's not likely to be anything serious

XenoBitch · 09/02/2022 18:24

First thought is covid vaccination/booster.

GettingThemFromHereToThere · 09/02/2022 18:25

It would be unprofessional for her to say "nothing to worry about" if it was.

StrangeAddiction · 09/02/2022 18:25

Medication review?

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2022 18:28

I had a call to book a wellness check because I turned 40 I happened to know the receptionist she said do you mind me making the call I said no she said OK reading your notes it says your FORTY? no? Your never forty? I really really liked that phonecall

22Giraffes · 09/02/2022 18:30

I wouldn't worry, she specifically told you not too. If it was something bad she should just say please get in touch and leave it at that.

NanooCov · 09/02/2022 18:31

Overdue smear test? I was chased up for mine recently.

Blossomandbee · 09/02/2022 18:33

If you haven't been recently and haven't had any tests then I can't think of anything to worry about, i would guess it must be an admin thing.

SummerHouse · 09/02/2022 18:35

Really bad use of words I think. The school always do this when calling about the children. Just say what the feckin thing is and I will decide if I need to worry. Hmm

This will be nothing. I would put money on it. You would be well within your rights to feedback the unnecessary concern it's caused you.

cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 18:36

Thanks all. The thing is, I doubt it's to do with the Covid booster because they send texts about that and then it's down to me to arrange. With cervical sweeps, I've had a nurse ring in the past to ask if I'd like one or had a letter. I've never been outright asked to make a GP appointment for one as the onus is on me to book myself in for one. Which is why I'm left worrying. I really can't think what it could be.
Would a GP just happen to go though my notes one day to see if I'm on any meds currently and if not, ask the receptionist to book me with a vague message?
I've got on ongoing pain problem but was referred to the hospital ages ago. Since that referral I've corresponded directly with them (I still haven't had the appointment- they've had to rearrange a couple of times due to Covid). Argh

They can't say what the problem is as they don't know who will pick up the message !
cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 18:38

I'm just going to hold on to the 'it's nothing to worry about' part even though I really am and probably will lose sleep over it.

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2022 18:39

They might be checking you still need the referral sometimes things resolve themselves

lljkk · 09/02/2022 18:41

update us tomorrow or soon, OP? Will probably help other people who want to assume the worst, too.

Allllchange · 09/02/2022 18:41

I've had a consultant from the hospital ask the GP to find the answer to various questions and complete a further examination/take more bloods to check whether a referral really is needed in the past.

Allllchange · 09/02/2022 18:42

So it could be something like that, esp with waiting lists as they are at the moment.

cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 18:42

I do feel a bit reassured now, it could be something very simple. I'm just a bit Confusedbecause my surgery is quite useless, you have to really chase up usually. So finding it a bit out of the ordinary that they are suddenly checking in for whatever reason.

I think it will be this, if you are in England?

My GP surgery is on a vehement mission to call people in for half-hearted long term condition reviews. They were stalled owing to the booster drive.

Serious advice - make the most of it.

longtompot · 09/02/2022 18:44

Either chasing you up for covid vaccination or booster or a medication review. That's what ours have been.

LizzieBananas · 09/02/2022 18:44

It might be helpful to know your age: eg if 25, 28 etc, it might be a smear; if you are 40, 45: it might be a wellness check (these numbers are off the top of my head and so might not be exact.)

cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 18:44

I hope so Allllchange!

Yes I will definitely update, lljkk because I did a search before making this post to see if anyone else had had this. And nothing worse than a thread left unresolved!

cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 18:49

I'm 35.

I'm talking myself out of the hospital asking the GP for bloods theory now because they rescheduled my appointment at last minute twice before and hadn't asked for any info from the GP prior. So why now. Can't believe how much this is bothering me...I hate not knowing

OP posts:
purplecorkheart · 09/02/2022 18:49

Either about smear test (not UK based but does the Practice get extra funding for their patients being up to date with their smears ). Or an admin error. I work in a place where we have multiple clients with the same name.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/02/2022 18:51

You can bet they are either validating their patient list, chasing you for a smear or, if you recently turned 40, calling to book a pointless telephone health review so they can tell you to get your blood pressure checked (by someone other than them, obviously) and tick a meaningless box.

It won't be anything worrying. It will be something that makes you wonder how come they have time for this, but not to see you when you actually want an appointment.
