Basically my AIBU is AIBU to be scared shitless. I had a missed call at the end of the day and then a voicemail quickly followed. It was the GP receptionist saying 'nothing to be worried about, but can you please make an appointment from 8am when we open in the morning?'
I note that she said nothing to worry about, but she would say that wouldn't she? I've not been to the doctors recently, not had any bloods taken to have results back from...nothing I can think of!

Perhaps. There's someone else in my area with the same name as me.

If all this is over a smear I'll not be happy at the worry this has caused me. They could have rang me during the day rather than dropped this on me vaguely the evening before. But I would be relieved.

TheYearOfSmallThings I'll hopefully be saying just that tomorrow morning after coming off the phone with them

I wouldn’t be worried.

Conversely I had a text message from mine saying “your recent blood results taken at the surgery and subsequently at a&e flagged an anomaly in your liver function, this may be related to your heart failure, therefore a liver ultrasound will be booked for you and you must attend for further blood tests in 3 weeks.“.

Ahem, well at least I now have it in writing that my liver is up shit creek as well as my heart. Grin

@SummerHouse

Really bad use of words I think. The school always do this when calling about the children. Just say what the feckin thing is and I will decide if I need to worry. Hmm

This will be nothing. I would put money on it. You would be well within your rights to feedback the unnecessary concern it's caused you.

They can't say what it is, it's a medical matter and the VM could be intercepted by another person. It is annoying if you pick the VM up outwith working hours but they just aren't allowed to leave the info on the VM.
GloGirl · 09/02/2022 19:00

I once had a GP turn up at my house at 11pm at night, my phone number was incorrect and I had dangerously low blood sugar from a blood test earlier that day Blush

My suspicion is that it's a "them" problem not a you problem. "Oh shit this referral has exceeeded the 60 day guide to be seen."

Or we forgot to schedule you in a test you need to have at X age for your bowels/boobs etc and it's overdue.

If your investigations haven't begun yet they cant be causing alarm Flowers

cherrysthename · 09/02/2022 19:00

Omg AlternativePerspective Shock
A few years ago after a blood test, they rang me and told me on the phone that I had raised pregnancy hormones so needed to go in for another blood test. I was thinking bloody hell that can only mean one thing! And I was on the pill. But when I went in for my second bloody test, it was just dismissed as something that sometimes crops up.

If you haven't had any tests or appointments lately it'll be a routine appointment. They're not going to know there's something wrong if you haven't told them there is.

Milliways · 09/02/2022 19:04

They have to leave a message as otherwise they get loads of calls saying “I missed a call, what was it about” as can see it was from the surgery.
It’s approaching year end and there is a lot of “who hasn’t had what test/asthma/BP etc review yet going on. Does include smears and a new smear campaign has just been launched this week.

MadeForThis · 09/02/2022 19:08

35 and on the pill? They might want you to change contraception.

Mummapenguin20 · 09/02/2022 19:09

Could be smear teat

Mummapenguin20 · 09/02/2022 19:09

Test

AnnaSW1 · 09/02/2022 19:11

When it's something to be worried aboiut you'd know about it.

AttackCat · 09/02/2022 19:13

Realistically there’s nothing serious it can be, that could prompt them to call you out of the blue with no prior tests etc.

They can’t just think “ooh I think cherrys is seriously ill” for no reason.

It’ll be something routine.

Staffy1 · 09/02/2022 19:16

If you haven’t had any recent tests or seen them for a while, it’s obviously not going to be anything awful. Most likely medication review, although why they couldn’t tell you in the message I don’t know.

SmolCat · 09/02/2022 19:16

My DP had this. A handful of missed calls and a voicemail. It turned out they were trying to do an emergency telephone appointment with a different patient and were dialling the wrong patient (DPs) number. I felt sorry for the poor other person who was left without their appointment because of an easily avoidable cock up

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/02/2022 19:18

I doubt it's to do with the Covid booster because they send texts about that and then it's down to me to arrange

It may well be, but if you've not had a booster I'd bet good money that's what it's about
At least around me they're chasing incessantly (maybe because of targets?) to the point where it's getting ridiculous, and before you say "why not text?" they probably figure a chat will be more persuasive

GinIronic · 09/02/2022 19:21

Probably a smear test summons. A new campaign is starting soon and there will probably be all sorts of coercive letters and phone calls over the next few weeks. I feel sorry for anyone with an umsmeared cervix - a bounty is on your head.

OvertheRainbow2U · 09/02/2022 19:28

Was it a receptionist? Admin team usually chase overdue smears etc....secretary will chase for hospital consultants for more info...again admin may chase for up to date vaccinations...

Jenjen26 · 09/02/2022 19:28

What is it your actually worried about as it can't be anything like cancer or organ failure or anything else scary as you've had no tests

Tempusfudgeit · 09/02/2022 19:31

I had this exact call, along with a simultaneous text saying the same, at 17.58 on a Friday evening. By the time I rang back the lines were closed and I had to wait until the Monday. It was to bug me about not having my flu jab yet!

Bluetrews25 · 09/02/2022 19:33

At least it wasn't a message to call the STD clinic back as you are a contact Grin
Hope all is ok.

HaveringWavering · 09/02/2022 19:35

The reference to making an appointment as soon as they open at 8am makes it sound more worrying/urgent. Is it possible that she was trying to say “Please call us to make an appointment” about some routine thing, and then just informing you “our lines are open from 8am” so that you knew you could sort it out before you start work?

Marmunia999 · 09/02/2022 19:38

My mum who's 81 had one of those today and it was only to make an appointment for a blood test as she's taking a tablet for cholesterol.

HangOnToYourself · 09/02/2022 19:39

What exactly are you worrying that it is if you havent had any bloods or seen them for ages?

ReefRay · 09/02/2022 19:39

I had the same last week. Turns out they're so behind wjth long term condition reviews since covid they're ringing everyone to do them now cuz they've all got deadlines
