Can I use the playground of a council estate if we don't live there?

Quick question...

I live right outside a really big council estate. (Eg I walk through it everyday as a shortcut to my local train station, that's how close I am and how big it is.) It's got a lovely playground in it with lots of cool climbing bits etc. Can I go there with my DD or do you think it's frowned on if I don't live there, because it's meant to be for residents? I can't find anywhere whether this isn't allowed, but it might be technically allowed but still frowned on? My next nearest playground is much smaller (although always empty) and a 15 min walk away.

Tldr can I take my dd to the council estate playground?

@AllThingsServeTheBeam I scrolled back over the thread tonight and my impression is that many posters were astounded. One poster even put up a link to adventure playgrounds in Islington which were open to all and staffed as proof that resident only playgrounds couldn't exist. If you read the thread differently and your impression is different that is fine we can agree to differ. I am out of the thread now.

@HadaVerde in relation to your post upthread and the other poster @alexdgr8 you are welcome, what you said made perfect sense to me!

I grew up on a huge council housing estate in the NW of England. There are approximately 6000 houses and 25,000 residents living there . All the play parks are available to the general public . In a place that large how would you know who lived locally and who didn't ?
@heffalitis where are all these astounded posters? Everyone agrees they exist. But they'd need to be sign posted.
Thread full of people telling me I am ‘batshit’ etc for stating that residents only facilities exist in social housing, loads of people saying that they are free for all’s because everyone’s taxes pay for them.

So yeah ‘ha’ indeed.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/02/2022 23:27

@HadaVerde nah. Just that you're wrong if there was no signage.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 11/02/2022 23:46

@Alwayscheerful

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6855447/amp/Children-social-housing-flats-banned-play-area-set-aside-rich-neighbours.html There was a news article about play areas.
I couldn't work out whether the "rich children were also banned from the play area of the poor children" it seems like they weren't only the poor children were banned from the rich children's area.
HoneyFlowers · 11/02/2022 23:47

Surely it's time to swing this thread into the playpark bin and slide onto a new subject?

Changechangychange · 12/02/2022 00:11

@HoneyFlowers Ithoight the thread was winding down in p20, and then somebody livened it up by revealing they don’t have a bin anywhere in their house and thought that was normal. So who knows what else might happen before p40?

Createausernametoday · 14/02/2022 22:48

32 pages of utter nonsense! Yes, go to the park and play to your hearts content🤩

Createausernametoday · 14/02/2022 22:51

I’m confused, Can anyone play in a council park?

Efrogwraig · 15/02/2022 09:19

@HadaVerde

Visiting friends who live there? Yes fine.

Using it cos it’s closer than another for public use playground? No of course it’s not ok.

I’m amazed people think this is ok.

Yes it is ok. lt is a public playground that any child can use.

Hi hi everyone, sorry I don't mean to reignite any debate and I'm sorry it got a bit heated at times! @HadaVerde I'm sorry some pp were a bit rude to you on this thread, I think your points were valid too.

But I've just come back because I promised @FirstTimeSecondTime and @BertieBotts and @LampLighter414 that I'd post a pic of this... it's the vandalised coin donation box in the council estate playground. My dd and I have gone to play there twice now since I already posted :) always at off peak times and it's been lovely. Thank you again to everyone for your comments.

Ps at least I think that's what it is. It also has a hand sanitiser dispenser bit that's vandalised too. Hmm

That's a hand sanitiser box! Not donation box!

The foot pedal is at the bottom, it is exactly like the ones in Primark!

eurochick · 18/02/2022 08:55

Agree. That's for hand sanitizer.

Toanewstart23 · 18/02/2022 08:56

Yes @BrinksmansEntry

The op says the “vandalised” coin box
It’s been nicked

Mummy1608 · 18/02/2022 08:59

Ah ok fair enough haha I thought the white bit at the top was a coin box! The cartoon is definitely hand sanitiser though!

Oops I've totally reopened this thread now 😳 😅

FleshLiabilities · 18/02/2022 09:05

I agree with Brinksman, it's even got the hand sanitiser symbols on it.

Toanewstart23 · 18/02/2022 09:10

Yes it’s a hand sanitiser
But also you can see the coin box has been ripped off!

Toanewstart23 · 18/02/2022 09:11

That hand sanitiser looks like a breeding ground for disease!

BrinksmansEntry · 18/02/2022 09:15

The white plastic bit is where the sanitiser goes, isn't it?

Not that I'm an expert. J just have children who need to use every hand sanitiser in every shop we go into. Every time. Even if still absorbing the previous load.

PolkaSpace · 18/02/2022 09:28

Hand sanitiser. Not sure how it's got in that state all rusty unless it was there pre pandemix

Legoisthebest · 18/02/2022 09:30

I can't see anything on that stand that makes reference to coin donations. It's clearly just a (broken) hand sanitizer stand.
Also it could be just broken not vandalised. Not everything in council estates gets vandalised....Hmm
