Friend who I met at uni wants to me to organise her 40th birthday. Wanting 20 people who I know about 5 well to go away for spa weekend costing £500 each . I did say to her I don’t really have time but she won’t take no for an answer . Is this really a thing to spend that much ?

she won’t take no for an answer

How does this work then?
How is she going to force you to do it?

I've never heard of someone asking someone else to organise a break for their birthday and it's a lot of money.

LouLou198 · 09/02/2022 22:12

Step away!!
Collecting the money for this will be a nightmare. Don't pay for anything for anyone else, it's unlikely in my experience you will get what is owed to you!

I'm also wondering how this conversation went. Op: I'm not doing it Friend: Yes you are Op:No I'm not Friend: Yes you are

How op 😅

20 people at £500 each? That's £10k!!! She wants you to ask people you dont know, to spend £10k to recognise that the earth has orbited the sun 40 times in your friends lifetime. This is absolute madness.

PurpleDaisies · 09/02/2022 22:36

Just say no.
You are a grown up. You can say no to your friend.

mrsbyers · 09/02/2022 22:42

I’m 50 this month , closest friends are going for a day trip to York on Saturday think it’s cost £32 each and that’s about what I’d expect people to pay to attend a birthday / she needs put in her place

DingDongDenny · 09/02/2022 23:00

Oh my God - do not do this! I'd fake my own death before getting involved in that madness

notanothertakeaway · 09/02/2022 23:49

Agree with PP, how can she "not take No for an answer"?!

She sends emails to you, you don't reply

She gives lists of people to contact, you don't contact them

She tells you where she wants to go, you don't book it

Don't get drawn in to this at all. It'll be a nightmare
