Keir Starmer mobbed

Rosscameasdoody · 08/02/2022 21:16

Watched the news about Keir Starmer being mobbed and having to be bundled into a police car for his own safety. Evidently it was motivated by the PM’s comments regarding the Jimmy Savile case. I found it unbelievable when I caught the end of an interview on Sky News in which a Tory MP said he didn’t believe it had anything to do with what Boris Johnson said. What will it take for them to stop defending him ?

It will take an ability to find what they do not have - a moral compass.

JohannSebastianBach · 08/02/2022 21:25

They won't stop.

Ikeptgoing · 08/02/2022 21:34

We can all have opinions and views as a free society but it is awful when our political leaders have to be bundled into a car for their safety.

Keir wasn't culpable for Jimmy Savilles awful crimes

No political leader should fear for their safety. Not Boris, Not Keir, not any MP nor previous PM

People need to behave and respect that these are people who dedicate their lives to politics. Yeah sometimes they may lie and be a bit iffy but they are not responsible for crimes committed by individuals during their time in power . No MP or PM is omnipresent

DrManhattan · 08/02/2022 21:53

Boris using Trump style tactics. We need Dom to share some more tory scumbag antics.

shropshire11 · 08/02/2022 21:58

Johnson’s comments were misguided, but sadly this kind of thing doesn’t just originate on the right. Angela Rayner calling people scum just for disagreeing with her, for example. The standard on both sides is too low.

Thedogscollar · 08/02/2022 21:59

Bojo knew exactly what he was doing when he gave that little speech last week.

It's a deflection tactic so everyone is speaking about something other than Boris, Sue Grey, Cressida Dick head of the most corrupt police dept ever and partygate.

He truly is the shittiest of human beings and the worst PM ever and that takes some doing after Thatcher.

PurpleDaisies · 08/02/2022 22:00

Johnson’s comments were misguided

They were more than misguided. They were bare faced lies on the record in the House of Commons and he hadn’t had the decency to correct them.

Exactly. There are no depths to which this creature will sink to. He is the lowest of the low.
StoneofDestiny · 08/02/2022 22:16

misguided?

No - he was actually advised not to use this slur by his own side - and he went ahead and did it. It was a pre planned, deliberate and provocative lie. It sparked outrage by member on all sides of the house and by a majority of the media.
To downgrade his lies to 'misguided comments' is to support the insupportable. It's Trumpian politics at its worst - and we have known all along how much he copied Trump all the way through his campaign to get to where he is, and is continuing to do so to stay there.

He shames the UK. We have no right to talk to the rest of the world about values and democracy.

Nightlystroll · 08/02/2022 22:31

I believe that the protesters were anti vaxxers and they actually verbally attacked KS for not standing against the restrictions, and calling him weak, a traitor and a terrible opposition leader. Piers Corbyn was there, I believe he was partially responsible for the protests, and he said it was about civil liberties. I think some at the back of the crowd said things about Jimmy Saville but that was not what KS was being attacked for by the majority.

AdamRyan · 08/02/2022 22:35

This is ridiculous. Insulting someone by calling them scum, while unpleasant, is not dangerous or illegal. Implying someone is responsible for a prolific paedophile being free is both dangerous and illegal. If Johnson said it outside parliament he'd be quite rightly sued.
Noone could sue Angela Rayner for calling them scum.
I'm sick of the false equivalence.

Moonmelodies · 08/02/2022 22:42

The same protesters hate Boris too, no? They're only using the Savile slur because it offends him, just like Boris did.

Offends who ? Starmer wasn’t responsible for not prosecuting Savile and Boris knew that - he was strongly advised not to say it.

@Nightlystroll is right they were anti backers cheered on by piers Corbyn. The Savill slur was one of many insults hurled at him and David Lammy who was walking next to him

Merrymumoftwo · 09/02/2022 07:30

vaxxers

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2022 07:34

After everything boris has done its kier starmer that gets attacked boris is so popular if the called a general election tomorrow he would win again won't he because he honestly seems to pull the wool over everyone's eyes that's why his party never put forward a vote of no confidence

AlexaShutUp · 09/02/2022 07:34

Part of the problem is that politicians appear to be able to lie in the House of Commons with impunity. It is a strange irony that they can get kicked out of the chamber for accusing others of lying, but not actually for casting false assertions on their fellow MPs. What a crappy system we have!

FabriqueBelgique · 09/02/2022 07:39

To me it seemed like a bunch of twats shouting out buzz words they’d heard in the media.
Hoardasurass · 09/02/2022 07:52

@Nightlystroll is correct. If Stammer has anyone (other than himself) ti blame for the mob he should be looking at his own party and the extremely violent and dangerous people whom they are attracting due to the particular brand of identity politics that the Labour Party are promoting and the behaviour of his own staff/shadow ministers

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 09/02/2022 07:57

Oh sure, Hoardasurass - Starmer deserved it and has only himself and his party to blame. Hmm

Johnson has now gone full on Trump.

Hoardasurass · 09/02/2022 08:11

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque I didn't say he deserves it but yes he and his party are to blame in exactly the same way that they are responsible for the labour activists that mobbed members of the tory party screaming scum at them and there activists who mob and attack any woman (both online and in person) who has the ordasity to stand up for women's rights.
Stammer has repeatedly refused to condemn there behaviour or defend Rosie Duffield from the mob as such he has given his (minimally) tacit approval of there behaviour and can't now complain or blame others when the mob turns on him

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2022 08:14

Are we certain Revolution GB are from the left? They are led by an ex Conservative councillor.
The hard right are absolute pussycats of course.

sst1234 · 09/02/2022 08:15

Might be useful to actually look at what happened. The mob were anti-vaxxers protesting that labour didn’t stand up to the government. If you want to grind your ace against Boris, feel free, he doesn’t have too many fans. But at least be factual.

sst1234 · 09/02/2022 08:16

Exactly, when his deputy was having a foul mouthed rant calling the opposition scum, or when his female MP was being hounded by extremists, no one seemed to care so much.

sashagabadon · 09/02/2022 08:17

Reminds me of all the milk shake throwing last year. That seemed to be acceptable at the time. Jo brand even made a joke about throwing a milkshake in Nigel farages face. That was worse imo.
These people were anti vax protesters there protesting against the government and spotted Keir and mostly called him a traitor. There was a long thread about it yesterday
