A footballer Kurt Zouma (apologies if already been mentioned here) has been videoed kicking his cat and chasing it yet West Ham says they've condemned his actions and he's apologised.

AIBU to be disgusted with him?

foul foul man

@wanttomarryamillionaire

Is anyone really that suprised though? Hes a premiership footballer, they are moronic arseholes who think they can do as they please. I hope he gets charged with animal cruelty.
so you judge all footballers on the action of one? Do you judge all hairdressers in the same way? Or all children (bearing in mind kids have murdered other kids, remember Jamie Bulger?). Or all greengrocers? Do you think that all Muslims are terrorists, or that all policepeople are in mysoginistic what's app groups?
BABAHOTEL · 09/02/2022 07:28

@Anklebiter999 you forgot all cyclists are awful and all men are bastards. Two very popular MN views.

ClaudineClare · 09/02/2022 07:57

I have not seen the video and don't want to. The fact that he seems to have involved his child is really disturbing. That is one fucked up household.

CluelessAt50 · 09/02/2022 09:01

I wish there was an automatic child protection investigation for anyone caught being cruel to animals. Aside from the poor cat, it's emotional abuse for any child to habitually witness a parent behaving that way.

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 09/02/2022 09:18

Yes it's awful but there are far worse or more important things going on everywhere at the moment - maybe it would be better to spend our energy sorting out those first rather than starting petitions about a cat?

Can't we do both?

It's possible to do both.

Livelovebehappy · 09/02/2022 09:26

He said the cat is a well loved family pet. I’m assuming his kids are well loved too, so maybe social services should get involved, if this is how he treats ‘well loved’ possessions. Clearly a very toxic household. And the Club played him in last night’s match, which says it all really about footballers - if they’re good on the field, they can pretty much get away with anything. At least the fans voiced their disgust at him. There’s also muttering amongst the militant groups of activists against animal cruelty, so he will have to set up some good security.

MissPeregrine · 09/02/2022 09:26

It’s sick! Poor cat!

What a role model for his child, who will think that this is ok!

I hope the cat gets taken away from him as I doubt this will have been a one off incident.

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 09/02/2022 09:30

Can't we do both?

But it's not both is it? It's not two things:

  1. Cat
  2. Every other problem in the country\world

There is not time enough to sort out even a fraction of the stuff that needs sorting.

A lot of horrible crimes such as murder and rape start with the perpetrators participating in animal cruelty before moving on to other heinous crimes. Educating people to be kind to other living creatures whether human or animal is key to a decent society. Would it be okay in your eyes to have a peace loving, kind to others society, but booting animals around your home is acceptable?

Who are you to decide what's far worse? People can spend their time and energy petitioning for what they want.
CrinklyCraggy · 09/02/2022 09:34

I'm disappointed he played last night. It hinknthis is a clear case of bringing the club/game into disrepute, even if the police have deemed there's no cause to prosecute.

I don't hold with footballers being held to a higher standard, which they often are, but this isn't that.

So we go nothing unless you've deemed it serious enough?

Please do give us an order of the priorities. Lots of people are animal lovers and this would be something close to their heart to petition against.

Most of us can’t do very much about Ukraine. We can intervene in a small but potentially important way in a UK based animal cruelty issue.

People who abuse animals are much more likely to be perpetrators of other violent crimes. Preventing violent crime is high on my priority list.

They certainly can. By all means, make a man kicking a cat (that by all accounts is not actually hurt) your priority over and above everything else that's wrong in our society if you like, it's your choice.

CrinklyCraggy · 09/02/2022 09:52

FWIW, I don't think this is going to go away. Looking at does West Ham sites this morning the club will have to think again on their stance.

Yesterday they made a decision with a game looming, which I expect they're regretting this morning.

Gonnagetgoing · 09/02/2022 09:52

UPDATE: Kurt Zouma and West Ham are getting a lot of stick so far over this, I've signed the petition and the beauty of social media is as this has gone viral all the fans and other animal lovers have come out in the cat's support.

Even a Polish wrestler (I think?) has challenged Zouma to have a go if you think you're hard enough!

When you look at the size of most domestic pets compared to adults it is great that at long last people are sticking up for their abuse as opposed to turning the other cheek!

My DB who's a big Chelsea supporter was disgusted Zouma was playing and his actions too!

Have you watched the video? It wasn't hurt, it was kicked and punched (whilst being held by a child£

You sound like you've not got any empathy with a cat, something defenceless and that is what's wrong in society. People thinking "it's only a cat"! I'm glad you're in the vast minority.

Shameful!

Lots of people have the capacity to care about and take action over several things at once, you know.

And hey, the cat wasn’t actually hurt, apparently. So there you have it, it’s fine to assault animals as long as you don’t actually “hurt” them.

Good grief.

BABAHOTEL · 09/02/2022 09:56

@MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife there is plenty wrong in our society but downplaying animal cruelty is one of them.

MongoOnlyPawnInGameOfLife · 09/02/2022 10:02

So there you have it, it’s fine to assault animals as long as you don’t actually “hurt” them.

Nowhere have I said that, so please don't put words into my mouth. I even said in my first post that it was an awful thing to do.

I just don't have a lot of time for people who are seemingly quite happy to ignore everything else going on in our society but if it's anything to do with an animal then it's time to grab the pitchforks.

You certainly gave that impression! I'm sick of people who turn a blind eye to animal cruelty. I'm able to have empathy for humans as well.
CrinklyCraggy · 09/02/2022 10:04

Nearly 4000 posts condemning the decision to play him on West Ham's own FB page. They really screwed up yesterday and I fully expect another announcement I the next few days.
