A footballer Kurt Zouma (apologies if already been mentioned here) has been videoed kicking his cat and chasing it yet West Ham says they've condemned his actions and he's apologised.

AIBU to be disgusted with him?

foul foul man

Anyone upset by this, have a quick youtube/google search of mistreatment of farm animals as well as their general conditions and think about that next time you're eating part of a chicken, cow, pig and whether you want to support that going forwards.

I'm not even vegan but the amount of hypocrisy most people display regarding animals is ridiculous.

ilovesooty · 09/02/2022 15:02

@ClaudineClare

I hope that the family situation is checked out too, to make sure there isn't any other sort of abuse going on.
Absolutely.

People are responding to a video that's been put on front of them, they'll respond how say see fit and your thoughts of hypocrisy is irrelevant to that.

Obviously all animal cruelty is abhorrent, and is a huge problem, but that doesn’t mean people can’t comment on a specific post about a specific incident because they’re not shouting from the rooftops about other animal cruelty. It’s the same as the high profile case about the torture and murder of little Arthur which attracted lots of public outcry - lots of child cruelty, but that doesn’t mean people can’t comment on a particular case that they are angry about. Or people who posted about offering to take in Afghan immigrants a couple of months ago, but probably pass by loads of homeless people every day here on our streets.

It's not the same at all because most of the people commenting on Arthur aren't actively abusing their own children whereas most of the people raging about the cat are actively paying for animal abuse every singe day. It's hypocrisy.

astroboy45 · 09/02/2022 16:08

What he did was disgusting but this is some people in a nutshell. Black players receive racial abuse all the time. One just received heavy abuse after losing penalties in the FA cup, I didn’t see anyone rush to start writing a thread about that. Physical violence against a cat, oh yeah everyone’s up in arms. A cat’s life is more important than those black players who receive constant racial abuse.
It’s laughable really

TheOnlyMrsMac · 09/02/2022 16:08

I cannot admit to the number of years I have supported and been involved with Compassion In World Farming. The number is embarrassingly large these days. I probably have tights older than some people posting whataboutery on this thread and elsewhere. And yet, here I am, still really, really bothered about just this one single little abused cat and its pal. Like many people, I'm sure, I know we can do both.

Ditto racism, misogyny, ableism, poverty, homophobia et al.

But still, I also care and act about this one little cat and its pal.

And I know there are many people like me.

Quit all the whataboutery.

What??? You must be picking and choosing what you read because there was massive outpouring of anger against those who were racially abusive.

What has race even got to do with this anyway? He’s an animal abuser and that’s what people are talking about.

MrBoPeep · 09/02/2022 16:26

I knew race would get mentioned. Its irrelevant here.

This footballer is an animal abusing POS. His brother for filming it, is a POS, and his wife is also a POS. Quite clearly this isn't the first time, and he's only sorry he's been caught.

BigUpAllOfUshereOnMN · 09/02/2022 16:30

Just heard on the radio that the cats have been taken away. Wonder what he will take out his anger on now given he likes taking it out on a living being

Agreed about the rest, but what do you know about his wife that we don't?
MrBoPeep · 09/02/2022 16:54

Tolerating animal abuse and her kids witnessing it?
I know what my actions would be, if my husband dared to verbally abuse an animal, let alone kick one, slap one, and throw shoes at one.
I also know my BIL would not be welcome in my house, and I'd report both of them for abuse.

astroboy45 · 09/02/2022 16:58

@TooTiredForAdventure oh sorry I must have missed that thread. Kindly link it in the comments so I can have a read.

@MrBoPeep race really isn’t irrelevant here because this situation shows what people really care about. 120,000 people have signed the petition for the player to be prosecuted/banned from keeping animals (rightfully so btw). However people don’t keep this same energy when it comes to racism and racial abuse so many players face, especially online. No one cares or if they do, they don’t care enough, to do something about it or raise awareness. Yet something’s happened to an animal, people want to talk up all of a sudden.
All this situation has done is point out that people value an animal’s life more than players who receive racial abuse on a day to day basis

astroboy45 · 09/02/2022 17:00

West Ham have also decided to donate £250,000 (two weeks worth of wages) and have removed him from next week’s squad. Some may say that’s not enough but the team has done something about it. He hasn’t got away with it but hopefully something with the law will happen next

powershowerforanhour · 09/02/2022 17:02

www.vettimes.co.uk/news/ivc-evidensia-makes-non-accidental-injuries-system-live-to-whole-profession/

The section on research into the link between the abuse of animals and that of women and children is shocking.

TheOnlyMrsMac · 09/02/2022 17:05

I have no idea what her part in all this is. I don't know what she has done, seen, knows, thinks or feels.

All I know is' what he and his brother have done, and I suspect a lot more.

Personally, I would LTB, but I'm not Mrs Sandra Zouma. I could not stay married and living with a man capable of that cruelty, nor continue to raise my children around him or his brother.

MayThePawsBeWithYou · 09/02/2022 17:08

Hopefully he will be sacked and fined by the court as well, and banned from keeping any more pets. . £250k is nothing to him. ,

daisydaisy11 · 09/02/2022 17:16

What a pathetic bully. I hope he gets charged and dropped by his club, Not a role model that the club wants to be putting forward for others.

But they played him yesterday. Showed great lack of judgement from the manager.

I'm particularly cross because the female primary school teacher lost her job for something similar

@astroboy45 racism is disgusting! Can you point me towards the petition surrounding this and football?

FYI I've signed many petitions regarding racism.

It doesn't mean I can't also sign this for animals.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

This. How on earth has he not been dropped by his club. It's sickening. The donation is a drop in the ocean for the money that's batted around at the level of football. Premier football needs to change. Money should not = no morals. Yet the last weeks have shown horrific behaviours.
