I live in an old terrace house and my washer/drier are on 2nd floor.
It's 11pm and I have just realise that dryer is probably not just noisy and vibrating for me. Is it v antisocial to do this, I was thinking of putting a wash in too.

Who said 8-9 hours?

HelloFrostyMorning · 09/02/2022 00:12

Overnight would be 8-9 hours to most people. Confused

TigerLilyTail · 09/02/2022 00:41

The OP obviously meant "at night".

@toomuchlaundry

You shouldn’t charge phones overnight either
I keep my charger submerged in water to keep it cool.

🤣

No lol. Remember Michael McIntyre talking about when you go on holiday and go round the house making sure all the switches are off except the fridge because 'we trust the fridge'

It was a fridge that started the fire at Grenfell.

I have a delay start setting on my washer/dryer. I set it to come on when we wake up, so it is spinning away driving breakfast, getting ready etc. I don’t leave it unattended. Could this be an option instead?

To be safe it needs to be switched off at the wall. Often the fire actually starts in the wiring in the plug.

No she didn't or she would have said "at night."
TiddleTaddleTat · 10/02/2022 18:47

@AuntyBumBum I didn’t realise that. I used to switch them off but don’t these days. I thought it was actual use of the drier that was the issue - as in running it. Thanks for the info.

Hands up all those who unplug all their appliances and electrical devices every night.

All of MN. No one risks leaving their tv on standby apparently.

This allows you to feel smugly climate conscious as well as safety conscious.

And no one ever uses a slow cooker and then goes out. Nope. That’s not the whole bloody point of them.
