Hello

About to send my baby off to nursery as I prepare to go back to work. Can you please tell me what I need to pack on his nursery bag? Any things you would recommend that I may not have thought of?

Thanks

Your nursery should be able to give you a list but ours is: puddle suit, wellies, slippers/indoor shoes, several full outfit changes including socks, spare bibs, water bottle, hats (sun/winter), suncream in summer

tokyo1 · 07/02/2022 15:39

Really depends on your nursery. Ours provide everything and just require us to send in change of clothes/socks in their bag and wellies during wetter months.

NameChangeCity123 · 07/02/2022 15:44

Yeah I'm sure they will let me know. I was
Just looking for any wee extra ideas that others have found useful to have. Thanks for your replies

In DD's (2 years old) backpack there is:
A handful of nappies
A pack of wipes
A handful of nappy bags
Small tube of sudacrem
Spare clothes (2x leggings, a vest, a t shirt, a sweatshirt, 2x socks)
Water bottle

Now that they're starting to play in the outside play area again, her pac-a-mac will be added (nursery provide wellies)
In summer I also include factor 50 suncream & a hat

I know some nurseries suggest a comforter/dummy if they have them. We gave them a dummy to keep hold of as DD would raid her back pack through the day 🙄 as she only has them if she's tired or really upset

Marmm · 07/02/2022 15:58

Depends If your nursery I providing nappies and sunscreen

This is fab, thanks. I'll ask then about the wellies

Ours provides the nappies, wipes, Sudocrem, and sun cream so we pack:

Changes of clothing
Teething gel
Comforter
Muslin to dry her bum between changes because she is prone to nappy rash
Dummy
Wellies
Coat/puddle suit

It's also worth getting a second of any medication if applicable, so you can leave on with nursery and don't have to remember it back & forth. Ditto additional comforters and dummies. A godsend so we have one comforter at nursery/in the bag, one in the cot at home and one in the wash.

Tothemoonandbackx · 07/02/2022 16:18

I always pack at least 2 of each of these, but they're also dependant on the weather...
•t-shirt/jumper/vest
•jeans/leggings/shorts/skirt
•socks, pants
Also a winter hat and gloves (at the moment) and a pair of shoes or boots.
In the summer, I packed her own sunscreen and sun hat too.
It also depends on age, if they need nappies, I'd put some in, and also nappy bags.

SatinHeart · 07/02/2022 16:32

We send in nappies/wipes/cream and also hat, wellies, puddle suit. But that stuff then all lives at nursery.

Day to day nursery bag is literally just changes of clothes - I generally go for 2 full changes of socks/trousers/vest/t-shirt then one jumper.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 07/02/2022 16:46

Our nursery allows us to send a bag of clothes in and then when they are all used give us the bag back to fill up again. This works great. We also send a huge pack of nappies in like this too. We don't generally send wellies as there is no specific outside space. However we do send a waterproof coat too.

Bamaluz · 07/02/2022 16:49

An extra layer such as a cardigan or jacket, as well as the complete change of clothes.
Don't forget the socks

Jellycatrabbit · 07/02/2022 16:50

As well as suggestions above I send in a wet bag that any changes of clothes can come home in - instead of an endless stream of plastic nappy bags.

We don't send hats or socks as there is a Nursery Hat Bag and a Nursery Sock Bag and they don't usually come back.

I suggest keeping an eye on what goes in and what comes back as this is how we identified Hat-gate!

Caspianberg · 07/02/2022 16:52

What goes in those small nursery backpacks then? Surely all that cant fit? Or do you usually have one big bag that stays and small bag just for water bottle or something?

RegardingMary · 07/02/2022 16:56

For a 2 year old
3 Nappies
Wipes
Nappy bags
Bum cream
1 full spare outfit
1 jumper / cardigan
Drinks cup (because she won't use the nursery one)
Teething gel/toy
Dummy

In summer

Suncream
Hat

In winter
Puddle suit
Hat and gloves
Wellies

FrancesFlute · 07/02/2022 17:02

I used to work in a nursery. Please label clothes and send maybe x2 changes. Plenty of nappies and wipes if you provide. Bottles and formula (labelled) if shes having bottles there. No need for nappy sacks. Nurseries will have one big bin in changing area - we just folded wet ones and bagged dirty with our own sacks.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 07/02/2022 17:11

Each nursery is different. e.g mine supplies puddle suits but my 18 month old has:

legging x 3
socks x 3
tops x 3
cardigan
jumper
hat
mittens

dannydyerismydad · 07/02/2022 17:13

Socks. So many pairs of socks.

They get soggy when puddle jumping. When potty training they soak up all the accidents. Don't forget to pack more socks than you think you'll ever need.

Everything on my list on goes in DD's backpack each day and she carries it in on her back from the car to the door
Camomila · 07/02/2022 18:04

I would ask nursery.

I send in 2 full changes of clothes, plus mittens and wooly hat in winter.

Nappies, wipes, puddlesuits, wellies, sun hats and suncream are all provided by the nursery.

When DD was at nursery there was some stuff that lived in at nursery full time eg puddlesuit/wellies in winter and sunhat/sunscreen in summer as well as a pair of slippers - kids didn't wear outdoor shoes inside the building but need footwear so they didn't hurt themselves on rogue toys/someone standing on their toes etc - and then on a daily basis I would send in a couple of spare outfits (top, vest, bottoms, warm extra layer and socks) her comfort toy and dummy for naptime and a water bottle.

I always put the outfits into some of the largish IKEA zip lock bags so that if they did need to change DD they could just grab the zip lock bag out of her bag and have a full outfit change without having to search for a tiny pair of socks in the bottom of a full bag, and also meant they had a waterproof/sealable bag to immediately put the soiled clothes in which reduced the chance of stuff going missing.

DDs nursery provided nappies/wipes in their standard provision but if a child needed specific wipes/nappies (eg due to allergies/rashes etc) then the nursery usually asked parents to just send in a full box and then they would let them know when they needed more - that way parents were just having to send a box in every few weeks rather than ensure they sent enough nappies in on a daily basis.

I don’t work with babies, only 2 years upwards so all I want to say is please label everything. You can bet that someone will have identical bags, coats and changes of clothes and in all the busyness, things are easily mixed up. I remember holding up one of the many unlabelled bags at home time and asking whose bag it was. They nearly all put their hands up because they really liked that bag!

And of course there’s so many identical Peppa Pig bags / clothes.....

Good luck, OP, it’s good to be preparing yourself mentally in this way

Oh bless, I love the thought of her raiding her back pack to get her dummy! You go girl!
Caspianberg · 07/02/2022 19:31

Thanks. Ds has washable nappies, so they take up a little more space. He might be trained before he starts in Autumn though.
Makes sense if they can leave slippers etc there as well

Noodledoodledoo · 07/02/2022 20:09

Mine had a change of clothes, hoodie, hat, teething powders if needed, and that was about it.

Nursery provided wellies, if it was wet they took in an appropriate coat.

Rarely used, I somehow have kids who don't get clothes that mucky eating etc, I used to have to check clothes still fitted as they never got taken out of the back!

Nursery provided all wipes etc.

YorkshireIndie · 07/02/2022 20:20

2-3 changes of clothes and a hat in the summer as DS has a big head. Nursery provides everything else
