What can you eat in Mac donalds if you are a vegetarian

Please suggest. Are all burgers either have beef or get cooked in beef oil? Can vegetarians and vegans eat from the outlets at all?

@liveforsummer, my thoughts exactly I want vegetable alternatives, not wierdy pretend meat ones and yes to real cheese (or as real as the plastic cheese slice isGrin)

whydiditalkaboutbruno · 05/02/2022 11:11

There’s a veggie burger, a vegan burger and a veggie wrap. Also cheese melt dippers

Elphame · 05/02/2022 11:19

They do a plant based range now.

I've been veggie for over 30 years now and wouldn't buy them. I won't support the company as it goes against my personal ethics.

theneverendinglaundry · 05/02/2022 11:32

A vegan thread on MN always descends into madness.

I love the McPlant. I'd rather eat in an independent vegan restaurant but there are none in my small town. And sometimes I just fancy some processed junk.

PlacidPenelope · 05/02/2022 11:48

I don't think it is madness to want a vegetarian alternative that is vegetarian not vegan and is vegetable based alongside a vegan alternative. I don't like the current trend towards the only vegetarian alternative being vegan, I don't like the vegan dairy alternatives.

Nowt wrong with fancying and eating processed junk every now and again.

I feel the same way penelope

Ive been to a number of local places who are now just offering 2/3 vegan alternatives and no vegetarian ones.

Sablemablelable · 05/02/2022 15:12

My son does. But he's 6YO and not particularly strict in his vegetarian regime. He still eats haribo for instance. I just don't think he likes meat, rather than being particularly arsed about vegetarian TBH. But he wants to be vegetarian so I go along with it.

IHateCoronavirus · 05/02/2022 15:23

Be careful with Burger King, as pp said they still cook their non-meat produce with the meat produce. I think the vegan royal is the only vegan thing on the menu.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 05/02/2022 15:28

Dh loves meat and hates veg. However he had mcplant burger last night as wanted to try it. Said it was fantastic and even better than their meat equivalents.

DynamiteFilledRadish · 05/02/2022 15:35

@Backtoreality1

If I was veggie I don’t think I would want to pay into a company that makes its fortune from animal products. The veggie/vegan options are just a palliative to make them appear animal friendly
I know this might sound mad so bear with me. Vegetarians and vegans often have family and friends who do eat meat and would like an option if they're in a McDonalds. Wild, I know.

Quite, I don't expect my meat eating friends and family to cater solely for me when we are out, shocking I know.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 05/02/2022 17:22

I do think, if you're a vegetarian for ethical / animal-loving reasons, then McDonald's is not a good choice.

There are many people who are veggie for other reasons, though.

PurpleDaisies · 05/02/2022 17:26

The more people buy veggie burgers, the less demand for meat ones there’ll be. It’s good that more companies are offering options.

I’m veggie and enjoy a McDonald’s. I miss the spicy bean burger and wish that would come back on the menu.

TheVanguardSix · 05/02/2022 17:27

McPlant!! It is so good!
I'm 'pescatarian'. Apologies, I know I sound like a total wanker writing that. But I have to say that because I am pretty much vegetarian but I do eat fish sometimes.
Anyway, just had the McPlant for the first time, and wow! It is delicious.

BurntO · 05/02/2022 17:27

I love the spicy wrap

PrivateParty · 05/02/2022 17:30

BTW a look at the menu on their website would have shown you the veggie and vegan options...

RobertaFirmino · 05/02/2022 17:46

@mumda

You will be inhaling meat particles in the air. Don't do it.
For crying out loud...
lakeswimmer · 05/02/2022 17:50

Teen DD is vegan and seems to go fairly frequently with her friends so presumably finds something to eat.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/02/2022 18:10

You can ask for the McPlant with normal cheese, I did that the other day and they had no issue with it. I don't mind the vegan mayo tbh once its in a bun with cheese and ketchup etc, it tastes no different to me.

SoItWas · 05/02/2022 18:14

I've tried the Mcplant meal (vegan burger, fries and a coke), and it's was pretty good.

Krustykrabpizza · 05/02/2022 18:16

@StripedMousse

Is this a stealth advert?!
It's definitely a weird thread considering this question could be answered by going on their website!
Cocoandcleo · 05/02/2022 18:25

I miss the quorn premiere. That was the best. And the ice cream sundaes. So much sauce - delicious.

Exactly this. It is nice to be able to go somewhere mainstream and have an option. Everyone can get what they want.
CantChatNow · 05/02/2022 19:01

I had a honking hangover and the vegan royale from BK sorted me right out. Yes ethically they’re not great but sometimes you need a greasy fast food fix!
