Next door wants us to move the car

We're selling our old car and had a few people come look at it today so we moved it in front of our new one. Slightly hanging over her house but not blocking her pavement into her house or anything. OH only moved it closer last night to give it a clean so it was ready for viewings today.

Soon as we came back home this morning after the school run she stuck her head out the window and said "is this your car??" Knowing full well it's ours as we've had it since we moved in. Then she asked us to move it and I replied "yes we will soon"

AIBU to move it back? I've got someone else coming in the morning and I don't really want to leave it by the flats where we can't see it especially when I will have to move it again.

I can't believe people really get wound up over things like this!

Is it blocking a dropped kerb? Does your neighbour just not like it in front of her house?

BeanyBops · 03/02/2022 17:46

If it's not blocking her access and there's no other restrictions then leave it wherever you want. People get ridiculous about parking in front of their houses but it's public space!

allgettingtoomuch · 03/02/2022 17:47

She doesn't have a dropped kerb, she didn't specify her reasoning behind why she wanted us to move it. I thought maybe she had a delivery or something coming but then she went out the house not long after so we was a bit puzzled.

ChittyBangs · 03/02/2022 17:48

Leave it

Sideswiped · 03/02/2022 17:49

If she says any more ask her why she wants to know.

zafferana · 03/02/2022 17:52

Have you left it where she usually parks her car? If so, I can see why she'd be annoyed with you taking up two spaces.

MsWalterMitty · 03/02/2022 17:53

I need a diagram!

Does she have a drive?…. I asked my neighbours if they could park just a couple of feet further away from my drive because although they weren’t overhanging it, it made it tricky to swing out of It on a narrow road.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 03/02/2022 17:56

Is it legally parked? If so she should keep her nose out.

Carpedimum · 03/02/2022 17:56

You know the rules @allgettingtoomuch, we need a diagram!

Walkingalot · 03/02/2022 17:57

Diagram!

T00Ts · 03/02/2022 17:58

If it’s parked on the road, ignore her. The old trope “you don’t own the road” applies here.

Scbchl · 03/02/2022 17:58

You dont own the road infront of your house so she's being unreasonable. Should of just said no.

It's a public road,no drop kerb and you pay road tax for said car therefore your entitled to park there.

My neighbours who are in their 80's take particular umbrage when someone parks outside their house on the public road who isn't a visitor to their house.Their drop kerb that they share with another neighbour is much further along and they have one small car that spends 95% of it's time in their garage which is at the back of their property. They even once told my DH he wasn't allowed to park any part of his car past our last fence post.

I think people are "territorial" about the road outside their houses as they often see it as an extension of their driveway or instead of a driveway if they don't have one.

girlmom21 · 03/02/2022 18:04

If it's taxed and insured leave it if it's only short term - as long as there's nobody vulnerable living there.

Our elderly neighbour needed an ambulance the other day and they couldn't park outside her house because someone who was visiting family at the other end of the street - who have an empty driveway - had parked there.

allgettingtoomuch · 03/02/2022 18:04

My drawing is terrible! All parking spaces are further down outside the other house but we've never used it as we like to see our car out the window.

There's no such thing as road tax
If its legally parked then just ignore her

ChittyBangs · 03/02/2022 18:12

Your diagram is fine.
Ignore her

AllOfUsAreDead · 03/02/2022 18:14

Just ignore her. She's being ridiculous.

Susu49 · 03/02/2022 18:24

@AllOfUsAreDead

Just ignore her. She's being ridiculous.
And she was rude
allgettingtoomuch · 03/02/2022 18:25

Will move it back tonight then im too nice sometimes Blush

OP posts:
Susu49 · 03/02/2022 18:31

@allgettingtoomuch why?

notacooldad · 03/02/2022 18:31

For the sake of neighbouly relations I would probably ask her what the problem is and tell her it's on temporary. If she was still an arse I would then ignore.
I try to resolve issues and jeep lines of communication open. You're not going to win everyone but if things ever escalate at least you look like youve tried to be reasonable

PostThenGhost · 03/02/2022 18:38

Tbf if you have allocated parking, but are parking two cars on the road instead, I can see why she’d be annoyed. Does she know you are actually selling it rather than now permanently parking 2 cars there?

Why move it back when you know it bothers her?

Calmdown14 · 03/02/2022 18:38

Is your end where you turn? If she is a new driver perhaps she's worried about hitting it
