Next door wants us to move the car

We're selling our old car and had a few people come look at it today so we moved it in front of our new one. Slightly hanging over her house but not blocking her pavement into her house or anything. OH only moved it closer last night to give it a clean so it was ready for viewings today.

Soon as we came back home this morning after the school run she stuck her head out the window and said "is this your car??" Knowing full well it's ours as we've had it since we moved in. Then she asked us to move it and I replied "yes we will soon"

AIBU to move it back? I've got someone else coming in the morning and I don't really want to leave it by the flats where we can't see it especially when I will have to move it again.

I can't believe people really get wound up over things like this!

@OldEvilOwl, well I suppose we could start calling it Vehicle Excise Duty as that trips so easily off the tongue, doesn't it? 😵‍💫🤣

allgettingtoomuch · 03/02/2022 18:44

@PostThenGhost parking isn't allocated on this site and to be honest sometimes the other neighbours have another car there think it's a family member that helps with the kids. Plus I wouldn't feel comfortable not being able to see our car and our cameras wouldn't pick it up either. Because it shouldn't bother her we're not causing any harm and it is only temporary.

@Calmdown14 no you go past the last neighbours house to leave the estate.

It’s true that it’s the public road so people can park where they like etc.

But I do feel for my mum who's neighbour has parked their huge, ancient caravan outside their gate and living room window because “I didn’t want it outside my house tinkly laugh

AuntMargo · 03/02/2022 18:51

Leave it where it is

junglejane66 · 03/02/2022 19:12

There's no such thing as road tax

Biscuit
BertramLacey · 03/02/2022 19:16

@Sideswiped I call it either car tax or VED. The advantage with that is it just starts to chip away at driver entitlement and the frankly juvenile idea that they own a part of the road because they pay a small part towards its upkeep. Also, it's accurate.

OP if you're parked legally there's not much she can do about it but you both just seem a bit un-neighbourly. I left my car parked perfectly legally this afternoon but moved it when my neighbour asked me to because it made it easier for her oil delivery. Everyone was polite, no-one got in a huff, everyone's lives are easier. What's wrong with saying 'hi neighbour. It's only there for a short while. We're selling it, fingers crossed it will be gone soon'.

StoneofDestiny · 03/02/2022 19:21

Just leave it - she is being ridiculous

Beautiful3 · 03/02/2022 19:43

I would just move it. Life's too short to fall out with neighbours.

curlymom · 03/02/2022 19:51

Move it closer to her

Pancakeorcrepe · 03/02/2022 20:17

You have allocated parking but are parking two cars on the road. Don’t be selfish.

Do you never leave your car out of sight?

Calvinlookingforhobbes · 03/02/2022 20:20

She is going to be your neighbour longer than you’ll have the two cars. She isn’t asking much and it’s easy enough for you to give it.

I missed the it out when I first read this post and thought christ @beautiful3 must keep Pickfords in business if moving is their solution Grin

But inline with that post I'm very much a pick your battles person and I'm not sure I'd pick this as a battle to have.

Are you saying your mum's neighbour has a caravan parked on the road outside your mum's house? I don't think that's legal and would probably contact the council.

OP said parking isn't allocated.
TheWaterNokk · 03/02/2022 21:29

Is it not?? Are you sure??

Mysterian · 03/02/2022 21:57

I'm a bit worried about your house being lower than the 2 neighbours. Could it be subsidence?

allgettingtoomuch · 04/02/2022 08:32

@Mysterian 🤣🤣🤣 our house is pushed back a little not sinking haha

You are more than entitled to park there. Ignore her. Don't be a pushover

seekinglondonlife · 04/02/2022 09:02

Ignore her. You aren't blocking her way or impinging on her property in any way. We once lived in a row of terraces, with on street parking (but no designated spaces). A neighbour who had no car, or anyone in her household, used to put traffic cones on the street outside 'her' space to stop people parking there. She used to sit outside with a KFC bucket everyday to protect the cones and make sure no one moved them. Absolutely barmy.

Bumpy23 · 04/02/2022 09:25

I think you need to find out her issue with you parking there. It may be reasonable?!
But, some of the estates round here, the cars are so tightly packed, it's a wonder how any can park where they are.
If she's a good reason, like a big delivery etc I'd move it. If not- tough titties neighbour.

Useranon1 · 04/02/2022 09:51

It's not illegal to park a caravan on the road.

DePfeffoff · 04/02/2022 10:36

Just put your new car in the parking spaces and put the old one in its place in front of your house.
