to disagree with a uni vice-principal that this is abusive?

Today, I've seen this exchange.

Person 1: And most trans women aren’t men.

Person 2: They are males.

Person 1: And you are an abusive bigot for asserting so. Blocked.

This would be of very little significance, except person 1 is the vice-principal of a Scottish university. The University of the West of Scotland, to be precise.

Saying that "they are males" is abusive bigotry? In that case, is there any way that anyone could express their opinion that transwomen are transwomen without being called abusive or bigoted?

If senior academics can honestly believe the above is bigoted, what implications does that have for Scottish hate crime legislation in practice?

Link about the bill for those who haven't heard about it: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-53580326

YANBU: "these are males" is not abusive or bigoted to post.

YABU: "these are males" is an abusive and bigoted sentence.

Does the UWS have a biology department? Maybe the lecturers should Have A Word with the vice-principal.

MichelleScarn · 03/02/2022 07:37

Scarily UWS have a nursing school. I wonder if they're driving the 'no more single sex wards, if you don't like it leave' agenda with their students?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 08:20

Shock I really hope his opinions aren't carrying over into the teaching of the nursing course!

But trans women are males. That’s a biological reality. Their plumbing is male. That’s not controversial, surely.

But it is, in this brave new world!

CityMumma78 · 03/02/2022 14:18

Surely University’s need to be regulated properly to stop the indoctrination of young impressionable adults!! A University is a place for higher education, expanded learning and freedom to explore and question however we are seeing more and more that lecturers and educators are using their platforms to spread their own personal left wing ideology. This just isn’t acceptable or progressive!

hugr · 03/02/2022 14:25

@NoNever

He’s going to be torn to shreds by saying “most” transwomen are not men. That implies some are.
It looks like a facetious response to the previous tweet which ends with "Most men don't assault".
Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/02/2022 14:29

He’s RT lots of stuff about terfs and how awful they are and how women get attacked a lot so it’s wrong to focus on trans women.

How to ppl this hard of thinking get jobs at universities?

TheKeatingFive · 03/02/2022 14:39

Not anti trans.
People can be as trans as they like.
What they cannot do is change sex. It is scientifically impossible to do so.
Stating a biological fact does not make you anti trans.

This. Put it on a banner. I honestly do not understand how this has become a controversial opinion. What am I missing?

Migrainesbythedozen · 03/02/2022 16:03

@TheOriginalEmu I know you are looking for excuses to justify his behaviour, but there was no more to it than that. I was blocked by him for merely saying women deserve safe spaces. Another poster who was raped by a transwoman was also blocked by him. These TRAs are dangerous and their hatred for women is truly and genuinely palpable.

Migrainesbythedozen · 03/02/2022 16:05

@FitAt50

You are not going to get much balance on here, mumsnet as a whole is very anti-trans. The majority seem to think they are just pervy men who pretend they want to be women, so they can spy on them in swimming pools or fitting rooms. I have only ever known 2 real trans women and they were lovely and have experience years of abuse.
@FitAt50 Please don't lie, gaslight and misrepresent. Mumsnet is not anti-trans at all. It is pro-women's safety and women's rights. If you see that as 'anti-trans', then that says so much more about your mindset than it does Mumsnet.

Um, you confuse me. I read the entire thread. I can link if you like, but I didn't want to drive more traffic that way. No point in adding to a pile-on. That's why I blurred out part of his username.

That lasted 6 minutes until you posted the link.

SolasAnla · 03/02/2022 16:32

The original themes something, something about trust and predators.

Advocating / claiming women need to be kind and allow penis people into single sex womens spaces.

Argues that penis people are women. 😴

Tapdancing to avoid saying women should be arrested for refusing to accept the existance of a female penis.

This gets to be so predictable.

Pretend that its a problem women have to come to terms with
So..... his penis areas are not to be changed to accomadate the other type of penis person.
Presumption (rebuttable) that his penis is a male penis but other penis not a male penis.

Yep ...
Verbal abuse, mandated trust obligation and predictors of predator behaviours 🙄

FurbleSocks · 03/02/2022 16:38
@FitAt50 But those two real transwomen were males, otherwise they wouldn't be transwomen, they would just be women. The fact they are male is what makes them transwomen
Were males yes. Are males no. They are transwomen.

DomesticatedZombie · 03/02/2022 16:39

What is a transwoman, Furble?

TheKeatingFive · 03/02/2022 16:42

Were males yes. Are males no.

From a biological POV that's utter nonsense

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 03/02/2022 16:44

Were males yes. Are males no. They are transwomen

They were males and they are males.

Yeah, OriginalEmu's accusations made me change my mind.

Your point?

Scientific american disagrees with you

blogs.scientificamerican.com/voices/stop-using-phony-science-to-justify-transphobia/

Also - how do we know he wasn’t referring to gender?

Migrainesbythedozen · 03/02/2022 16:46

@FurbleSocks They are still males, and will be til the day they die. Their DNA says so. Their anatomy says so. Their biology says so. A male can't change into a female.

Migrainesbythedozen · 03/02/2022 16:49

@Namechange466 Stop posting femphobic junk-science articles.

Male DNA cannot change into female DNA.

Science disagrees with you. DNA disagrees with you. Biology disagrees with you. Anatomy disagrees with you.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 16:52

Namechange466

You're saying that male and female are gender words now?!
Is this just in humans, or are they being redefined across the animal kingdom?

If I want to breed baby horses (foals) from my mare, how can I communicate to someone else that I would like to borrow someone else's horse with a penis, not a horse with some kind of masculine gender identity?

OP posts:
TheKeatingFive · 03/02/2022 16:54

They are also talking utter nonsense.

Also - how do we know he wasn’t referring to gender?

There is no consensus about what constitutes gender. As far as I can see it's nothing more than a bunch of societal stereotypes. Which is fine, but not in anyway shape or form something that trumps sex.

Eightiesfan · 03/02/2022 17:02

@ufucoffee
Mumsnet is not anti trans. Some users are just against men saying they are women when they obviously aren't. If some men want to pretend they are women they can, obviously, crack on mate.

And therein lies the problem, you clearly have no understanding of gender dysphoria and the absolute horror both men and women have to live with through fear of people exactly like you. The fact you label ‘transwomen’ as men ‘pretending’ they are women is sheer ignorance. Educate yourself.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 03/02/2022 17:20

Just for the purposes of further clarification, for @slashlover

If I go to the effort of screenshotting and typing out a conversation verbatim/c&p'ing multiple posts in order to preserve the partial anonymity of someone (who I don't actually like!) and someone then uses the effort I went to, to imply I never even saw the conversation in context, I will be pissed off.

And then, I will say "fuck it, and just link directly. Because I am a human being, not an emotionless robot. If you would prefer me to maintain the moral high ground, don't taunt me down from it.
