Nothing to buy, weird awful acid colours
Rows snd rows of discounted crop tops. They’re on the way out surely?
I’m 39 - I have an event tomorrow evening
AIBU - Am I now too old for Zara?

I stopped shopping at Zara once I hit my 30s. After that age, you may be able to still pull it off, but only if you're very slim! I want better quality these days.

mutantninja · 02/02/2022 17:18

I used to travel to Porto for work and my client would book me a hotel next to a massive Zara so I could load up on the (much cheaper) clothes. That was 15 years ago. It's such crap quality now. Mind you, I'm 48, so not the target audience.

Arabellla · 02/02/2022 17:20

It's from the country that gave us Dali, so weirdness is to be expected.

I haven't bought from Zara in years.

Gonnagetgoing · 02/02/2022 17:25

@esloquehay

I always visit the Zara in Á Coruña when I visit familia there and have no trouble with finding things I like. I visit a Zara in England? I struggle to find anything I like.
@esloquehay - I agree that foreign Zaras are much better than English ones.

Zara In the U.K. is absolutely awful compared to Europe

I’m now 39 and don’t know where to shop anymore Sad

HotWaterAndLemon · 02/02/2022 17:33

Never go in there because nothing fits me properly despite picking up a range of sizes.

I’m the same @BlueThursday, gaze into New Look and River Island and keep walking. Today I got a nice cardigan in Sainsburys. That probably tells you all you need to know about me!

NeverChange · 02/02/2022 17:38

Zara is one of those places that is really hit and miss, but in terms of quality and sizing.

I have a lot of Zara pieces in my wardrobe, mainly coats and blazers but none of them are from the last 2/3 years.

All of their tops seem to be made for tall people with really long arms so typically don't but them.

Trousers seem to be the opposite and only for short people - I have some but which I take my normal side in coats & blazers, I often have to go up a size in trousers.

I've only ever both one dress there.

Gave up buying on their website, there is no point and I was returning most of it. Everything has to be tried on as the sizing, quality and shapes are so inconsistent.

again2020 · 02/02/2022 17:40

Another one who thinks it's always been weird.
It's like H and M (no offence to H and M as I love it!) but trying to be designer. Website not good at all, very un-user friendly.

bluebell34567 · 02/02/2022 17:46

i never liked Zara.

camperqueen54 · 02/02/2022 18:02

I realised quite a while ago that dressing in Zara clothes made me look like mutton dressed as lamb. It's sad but it happens to us all!

See, I don’t agree with this. Ain’t no such thing.

I’m lucky; in my industry I see 70 year olds rocking all the looks.

‘Mutton dressed as lamb’ is misogyny.

You will succumb Grin

I'm in a rather nice rust coloured seasalt dress today, so comfortable Smile[/quote]
I said the same but I've managed to resist the tunics and spend a lot of time in band/music T shirts and a leather jacket. Circa 1988.Blush

pinkhousesarebest · 02/02/2022 18:20

My dd who is 18, won't set foot in Zara as she says it's for old people (ie me). I agree that it is much more classic in Europe, I still buy things there (and I am well old). I still have two dresses that I bought in 1999, both wool mix and so beautifully made. I stil wear one occasionally and people are amazed it is Zara.
I miss the old days...

ABitOfAShitShow · 02/02/2022 18:22

@Gonnagetgoing I've just ordered another one. I'll see if it's finished any better (it does happen like that in Zara). It's nowt special but it's casual and super cosy and will fill a gap in my wardrobe

Vicliz24 · 02/02/2022 18:22

Every high street shop is polyester city these days it's so frustrating if you don't have the budget to buy better quality. I find myself in charity shops more often than not

pinkhousesarebest · 02/02/2022 18:22

Did anyone see the recent ad where the model was crouched on the hob?

Brighteyedtriangle · 02/02/2022 18:26

Topshop did the same. By the time i was 30 I could barely find anything.
Maybe it was my age but im pretty sure it was them that changed not me.
Zara are heading the same way.

Froppysue · 02/02/2022 18:28

I still like Zara for the odd piece, but I have definitely noticed that their quality has gone downhill and I’m finding less and less I like.

Also, dd2 (15) and all of her friends are starting to love it and shop there now, don’t know if that’s put me off or if they really have started to cater for a younger crowd. A few years ago my eldest dd was around the same age and wouldn’t have even considered buying anything from there.

Baby Zara is however still bloody adorable.

TeloMere · 02/02/2022 18:33

I thought this was going to be about Zara Tindall doing something drastic and out of character, nose job, boob job, face lift etc.

Left · 02/02/2022 18:34

I do still love Zara (early 40s) but the random tailoring does mean that I have to return half of any order! Currently wearing Zara and was told by my child that I look ridiculous so maybe it is time to start moving on though Grin

Fairyliz · 02/02/2022 18:35

Tbh I weep in all shops when I see the quality of clothes nowadays.
I volunteer in a charity shop and sometimes we get bags of clothes that were obviously purchased 20/30/40 years ago and have come from someone who has passed away.
The quality is unbelievable compared to the clothes in shops nowadays. I’m not talking about particularly expensive shops either, just places like M & S and Next.
I don’t actually think you can buy decent good quality clothes from anywhere anymore just rubbish.

Not sure, I'm in France and haven't bought anything there for ages either, a few years ago it was different, more classy.
GivenchyDahhling · 02/02/2022 18:37

I find the selection varies massively based on location - the one just off of the King’s Road is much more subdued and far less neon/polyester than eg the one in Stratford Westfield.

tootiredtobother · 02/02/2022 18:40

wait till you hit 50 plus ,ladies,. Bugger all to choose from inc M and S. Have to go much more upmarket even for day wear stuff and still the dreaded Polyester shows its sweaty face.

Wheeloftime · 02/02/2022 18:43

The only acceptable range I find in Zara are toddler and baby clothes. Outgrew Zara a while ago, due to age plus lowered standards. Lost its identity now.. It's other brand massimo dutti I still find a few decent bits and bobs but it's also on the downhill.
