To be annoyed by people who don’t neuter their dogs and let their dogs hump other dogs nonstop

It drives me up the wall that some people (mostly men) refuse to get their dogs neutered.

It seems some men are just so insecure about their own manhood that they try to compensate by leaving their dog intact? As if that's supposed to "prove" their own masculinity somehow?

I have a female dog who was spayed at 10 months, yet is constantly being humped. The owners do nothing to stop it, or worse find it funny when my dog is clearly distressed. I’ve even seen dogs knock over and hump young kids, which the owners find hilarious Angry

I can’t see any reason to not get your dog neutered, except rare medical issues. AIBU?

What kind of places are you going to see all these humping dogs?!

DementedPanda · 02/02/2022 12:33

I've never seen that kind of behaviour.

My dog is older now and has never displayed any humping. He is entire and unless it needs done for medical reasons I've no intention of neutering him.

I suppose it depends what kind of dog owner they are.

CalIie · 02/02/2022 12:35

@Thebedistoohot The local dog park.

I think the increase in the number of lockdown dogs has led to a huge increase of irresponsible owners with badly managed dogs

I have a lovely dog who is really friendly and have to be careful as she gets growled at, humped, dogs with zero recall don’t leave her alone, some on retractable leads just run around her legs getting tangled etc

A dog’s penis mid-hump is not nice to see!

MrsTimRiggins · 02/02/2022 12:37

That’s definitely very poor behaviour from the dog owners. No excuse for that.
My dog isn’t neutered, he doesn’t hump anyone, canine or human!

x2boys · 02/02/2022 12:38

How strange I have never seen anything like this but in five years of being a dog owner 🤔

CounsellorTroi · 02/02/2022 12:39

My DB’s lab is intact. He does occasionally try to hump but gets sharp telling off. He is slim and fit though at 8 years old.

Noname1999 · 02/02/2022 12:40

I think most dogs should be fixed, but some dogs continue with this behaviour regardless.

JuliTooley · 02/02/2022 12:40

It happens to my dog. Very annoying.

There is definitely as certain “type” of dog owner that refuses to get their dog neutered, for similar reasons you’ve outlined.

Usually staffie type dogs, labs and Jack Russells.

AllOfUsAreDead · 02/02/2022 12:41

I'd yell at the owner loudly and kick their dog off mine. Not the dogs fault but I don't put my hands near an unknown dog with a very obvious bad owner. More likely to bite you. Maybe then the morons will learn how to behave in public, I am meaning the owners.

Bywayofanupdate · 02/02/2022 12:43

My dog isn't neutered and doesn't hump. I've also seen neutered dogs that do hump.

unhappy46 · 02/02/2022 12:44

Humping is also a dominance thing and doesn't necessarily stop if the dog is neutered if they are prone to that. One of my neutered dogs actually managed to mate with one of my girls when they were in season. Of course their was no pregnancy but he still had the urge to do it. I don't use dog parks but would stop my dog doing this if he were. But you have to remember dogs aren't human - they are ruled by instinct.

CalIie · 02/02/2022 12:44

@AllOfUsAreDead Yeah, I definitely don’t blame the dogs, I blame the owners. Most of them don’t see any issue with their dog humping another dog unless you call them out on it, which can illicit an aggressive response from the owner.

Yanbu although luckily I haven’t come across this behaviour with my dog. That said she is anxious so I do avoid the popular dog park at busy times.

Tandoorimixedgrill · 02/02/2022 12:47

Lab owner here too and no intention of getting him done as I want him to stay slim and fit. He’s not really a humper though and gets sharp shrift if he ever try’s it.

On the rare occasions he has shown interest it has tended to be when owners have their in season bitch roaming free. Got to say this really annoys me as they then seem horrified, what do they expect to happen?

Witchymcwitch · 02/02/2022 12:47

Absolute nonsense 🙄
And a lot of humping when it does happen is due to overexcitement, not sexual at all.
Both bitches and dogs can do it and neutering won’t make a difference to that.

CalIie · 02/02/2022 12:48

@unhappy46 I’m not annoyed with the dogs - they can’t help doing what’s natural…

But I do get annoyed with the owners who do nothing to stop their dogs behaviour.

Bitches may do it too.

ArchieStar · 02/02/2022 12:49

I know what you mean OP. Though I’ve seen irresponsibility over female dogs too, including one owner who deliberately brought their dog out whilst in heat, actively spoke to other dog owners on the park asking if they had a male as she wanted puppies and wasn’t bothered what they were! She huffed and walked away from me after I said mine was neutered and even if he wasn’t, I wasn’t comfortable her seeking a mate out this way 🙄

GirlInACountrySong · 02/02/2022 12:49

Really? You've observed these humping dogs belong to insecure men??

Neutering isn't a guaranteed fix for humping either.....did you not know that?

XelaM · 02/02/2022 12:49

I'm a woman and I don't neuter my male dog because I think it's a form of cruelty like cropping ears and tails. My dog is well-behaved, doesn't hump anyone, so why would I mess with his hormones and risk a change in personality? Any I certainly have never witnessed any dogs knock over and hump kids (Hmm).

Ponoka7 · 02/02/2022 12:50

Humping is also dominant behaviour, your puppy will get humped by both males and females, as do children. I agree that too many owners of all male animals think it's upto the owners of females to just get their's neutered.

CounsellorTroi · 02/02/2022 12:53

There are medical arguments in favour of spaying, bitches don’t shed their womb lining like women, it gets reabsorbed and they are prone to a nasty womb infection called pyometritis.

T00Ts · 02/02/2022 12:53

Neutered dogs can still hump. Neutered bitches still hump sometimes. It’s sometimes an attempt at showing dominance, as is standing with their bits over another dog’s head. Dogs are strange souls.

I have an unneutered dog (for medical reasons) and a neutered dog. Guess which one is a humpy little bastard, though he never humps people.

PrivateParty · 02/02/2022 20:40

It's not the owners who don't neuter their dogs you should have an issue with, it's owners who let their dogs do it to your dog and do nothing to stop it.
