Unsightly sign

Our neighbours across the road from us are getting their garden done. The company doing it started work on it over the weekend.
I've come home from work today to find that the landscaper doing the work has attached a sign advertising his business to the lamp post in front of our house instead of putting it at the front of the house across the road that they are actually working on.
AIBU to not want this sign there?
They've attached it with a piece of wood and cable ties and it's right in our line of sight out of the living room window.

Am I just being petty?

If it's only going to be up a few days I'd ignore it. Any longer I'd ask them to move it.

phishy · 31/01/2022 18:30

No, I'd ask them to move it asap. They are being inconsiderate.

nokidshere · 31/01/2022 18:31

Of course yabu. It's only while the work is being done and it's a pretty standard way of advertising who's doing the work.

newnameforthis76 · 31/01/2022 18:35

It’s not your lamp post. Annoying though it is, I don’t think you can expect them to take it down just because you can see it when you look out of the window. It’ll only be there for a few days, so I’d just leave it I think.

Yeah...On or near the other persons property, not mine?

Get some pliers/snips, cut tie wraps, plonk sign on garden where work is being done.
Or ignore it.

WorriedGiraffe · 31/01/2022 18:39

Yep that’s petty, how much time do you even spend stating that that lamppost out of your window? It won’t be there for ever, and it isn’t your lamppost.

Theunamedcat · 31/01/2022 18:41

Does your garden look good?

ladymary86 · 31/01/2022 18:45

Well I'm not standing staring at it but even with the blinds closed I'm pretty aware of it.
It's pretty windy here still and it's flapping about like mad.

You could tell the local authority - unlikely they have permission to attach the lamp post.

nokidshere · 31/01/2022 18:47

It's not on your property though.

Seriously get a grip. It's a temporary sign on a public space.

WorriedGiraffe · 31/01/2022 18:48

That is incredibly petty for 1 sign on 1 lamppost temporarily, is there really a need to make such a fuss?
alexdgr8 · 31/01/2022 18:50

ring local council, streets/highways or environment dept.
this is an unauthorised advertising hoarding, and may pose a risk to the public, being an obstacle or insecurely attached.

Ponoka7 · 31/01/2022 19:19

"but even with the blinds closed I'm pretty aware of it."

That's quite sad and suggests that you've got something going on.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 31/01/2022 19:20

Gosh I wish I had this to worry about.

It's someone touting for a bit of business. Christ.

Bloody hell.
GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 31/01/2022 19:22

Clutch your pearls and gasp in horror...

BletchleyGirls · 31/01/2022 19:24

If the noise is annoy you just ask them to remove it

How does it suggest I've got something going on? I'm aware of the noise it's making and it's not quiet!

Wait for them to arrive tomorrow and ask them to move it. I find it hard to believe that it's that loud TBH are you talking not being able to sleep because of it? You said it was unsightly but you can't see it now. Is it going got keep the whole road awake all night?

The whole road... no. My light sleeping 7 month old - maybe!

Very dramatic. Allow it while the works on and then take it down if they don't after.

Sparklingbrook · 31/01/2022 19:49

If it's genuinely is really that loud go and take it down. then present it to them in the morning saying you took it down because a)It was so noisy it kept your baby awake all night and b)it's on the wrong house.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/01/2022 19:50

It's a blustery night, isn't it?

Such a shame that the wind did for the sign.

Cable ties? Oh, they must have snapped and the sign blew away. Maybe it was one of those mini tornadoes we get over here.

Riapia · 31/01/2022 20:03

Go to over the neighbours and make owl sounds in their face.
