Hi

Looking for ideas for a hotel for a few nights in Bangkok for the first two nights of our honeymoon. I'd love somewhere really nice as I only intend to do this once. We haven't worked out the rest of our trip yet but would like to make sure the first days are great. Any ideas?

There's some amazing hotels in Bangkok. We once stayed at the Sheraton and the view over the river was so incredible from our room, we couldn't close the curtains.

In terms of location, sukhamvit road is great and makes everywhere accessible by sky train.

Book pretty much any central 5 star and you'll be ok. Thai 5 star is fantastic. Something with a rooftop restaurant or bar as the cityscape at night is breathtaking.

We stayed in the Banyan Tree in Bangkok. Splashed out for club rooms which includes access to a lounge for complimentary drinks and nibbles (one of the few places in Thailand where we could get wine - most bars don't sell wine!) It has the most fabulous roof top bar. Superb service.

fufulina · 30/01/2022 21:16

We did the Banyan Tree club rooms also! Loved it.

Franklin12 · 30/01/2022 21:29

Another one for the Banyan Tree. Don’t forget to reserve a table at the roof top restaurant well in advance.

iloveredwine · 30/01/2022 21:33

I stayed in the anatara riverside Hotel and spa. It is a little way out but quieter and has a lovely river boat into town.

Triotriotrio · 30/01/2022 21:38

Thanks people. Banyan Tree looks exactly the type of place I'm thinking of. The other half seems to think we should stay near Khao San Road does anyone know how far it is from there? Not necessarily I'm distance (I can use Google) but in terms of getting there?

I usually go cheap and cheerful in Bangkok, but did once treat myself to the Lebua at State Tower. It’s got an amazing open top roof bar on the 60 something floor. Right on the Chao Praya, and a great spot for the sunset.
I’d recommend somewhere you can access the Sky Train easily, as Bangkok traffic can be awful.

Same!! Amazing.

I've stayed at both the Banyan and Anatara, has to be the Anantara Siamfor me, it used to be The Four seasons, it's stunning and the service is incredible

TinySaltLick · 30/01/2022 21:49

Khao San Road is international tourist central. Unless you are 18 and backpacking, wanting to get smashed at cheesy bars with dunken students in gap years, you do not need to be anywhere near there!

Cookerhood · 30/01/2022 21:51

Lebua at State Tower here, club rooms

Well that's pretty much what I thought, but he went 20 years ago and appears to want to re live his youth!! 🤣 Although in all honesty, I'm sure he will go with wherever I say I want to go!!

Since it's your honeymoon, surely The Peninsula is a must?! Make sure you get a balcony room with river view.

whirlycarly · 30/01/2022 22:20

God no to khao san road. You will thank us when you see it. Visit by all means but don't stay there if you want any kind of luxurious experience.

FrogsHiccups · 30/01/2022 22:23

Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok

Absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was amazing. They also provide a regular boat service up the river to the nearest sky train station, which was really useful for getting around!

FusionChefGeoff · 30/01/2022 22:25

Banyan Tree hands down.

CatBook · 30/01/2022 22:32

Mandarin Oriental, service is amazing, and the river view is stunning.

ChristmasPlanning · 30/01/2022 22:34

Mandarin Oriental.

I don't like Bangkok but loved the other parts of Thailand. What month are you going?

BringMeTea · 30/01/2022 22:40

The Conrad is gorgeous. Also the Mandarin Oriental for riverside. Oh there are so many utterly amazing hotels there. I wanna go!

M1nd0fAMagp1E · 30/01/2022 22:43

Have stayed Ramada Plaza Wyndham hotel

You can get the cheap public hop on & off ferry boats up & down the river to visit the Royal Palace, temples etc

Can walk to Asiatique for food & big wheel

expatmigrant · 30/01/2022 22:48

Conrad and Shangri-La both lovely. Staid in both a couple of times.

M1nd0fAMagp1E · 30/01/2022 22:49

Pressed too soon

I've stayed in some smaller hotels too

Recommend
Hotel with a pool
Hotel near sky train or river for easy transport
China Town is a good place to eat street food & sit & watch what is going on
Chatuchak market amazing

Hairbrush123 · 30/01/2022 23:21

While it isn’t the most luxurious hotel - Radisson Blu Bangkok was beautiful. Really spacious room, massive bathroom, immaculate room & very central. I only paid £60 a night and I went in November 2019 so a busy season

PeopleBeCrazy · 30/01/2022 23:33

I'd say anywhere except the Hilton Grin

Triotriotrio · 31/01/2022 16:53

October. For 2 weeks. Keen for recommendations of where to go and what to see. OH booked the flights as a surprise, so not done any thinking about this.

Thanks all for recommendations on hotels so far. We are going to look at them this weekend.
