What do you do to prevent salt spilling out the bottom of the grinder all over the cupboard base?

I'm aware this is a first world problem but I'm so over the salty spillage

Currently contemplating a return to fine salt shakers!!

BU: put up with the salt and clean your cupboards out more often

NBU: buy a 50p shaker and move on

Joseph and Joseph pepper and salt mills. The grinder is at the top so no mess.

Linnet · 28/01/2022 21:39

I also use the Gu ramekins

Fangdrew · 28/01/2022 21:40

Our cheapie salt and pepper mills sit in a small rectangular ramekin dish in the cupboard. It works well.

PolaDeVeboise · 28/01/2022 21:49

Just came on to say that @Bonnealle. Hated the 'leaks' with the others. Love these!

mrsbyers · 28/01/2022 23:46

Le creuset ones with a specially designed lid : stand plus a salt pig for maldon

campion · 28/01/2022 23:55

We have these. They have a lid attached to the bottom and are battery operated. Press the button, instant grinding and a light comes on too. Endless entertainment for a miserable January!

@ItRainedForever

Mine's in a repurposed Gu ramekin. They're just the right size for my salt and pepper mills.
This one is an excellent idea! I have so many of those damn things kicking around

I should have known there would be an actual item for this...

@NotsoNeurotypical

I have upright with a lid kind now, my other one is on a shelf gathering dust as I just could not cope with that much salt sprinkling

My toddler calls salt and pepper 'food glitter' well just like craft glitter it used to get everywhere. Now the problem is solved!

This made me laugh a lot. Food glitter...kids are too funny

@McScreamysGhostPants

I'm actually just showing off my amazing rhino butterdish if I'm honest 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
It's a beautiful butter dish. I'm actually very unhappy with my butter dish. The lid slips off when I try to grab it.

But that's another story!!!

All this saying use a salt pig....don't you find the salt gets contaminated? I don't know how I feel about leaving it open to the elements!

After reading this thread, I've realised a salt pig is the kitchen implement I've been missing all my life!!

In response to the OP, I'm cheap and use the aldi 99p mills..they stand upright and even come with a lid!

Bunce1 · 29/01/2022 09:55

My salt pig has a sort of hood so no contamination.
