What do you do to prevent salt spilling out the bottom of the grinder all over the cupboard base?

I'm aware this is a first world problem but I'm so over the salty spillage

Currently contemplating a return to fine salt shakers!!

BU: put up with the salt and clean your cupboards out more often

NBU: buy a 50p shaker and move on

I have upright with a lid kind now, my other one is on a shelf gathering dust as I just could not cope with that much salt sprinkling

My toddler calls salt and pepper 'food glitter' well just like craft glitter it used to get everywhere. Now the problem is solved!

Darbs76 · 28/01/2022 19:43

Mine stays in the container it came in

stuntbubbles · 28/01/2022 19:46

Salt pig that I stick my finger in every time I go past

McScreamysGhostPants · 28/01/2022 20:01

I just use a le creuset salt pig 🤷🏼‍♀️. There is zero benefit from freshly ground salt. But it ready ground, just refill your salt pig as needed. I've attached photos in case you don't know what a salt pig is.

I'm actually just showing off my amazing rhino butterdish if I'm honest 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

ouch321 · 28/01/2022 20:29
@ouch321 you never use any salt in cooking??
Nope, I just skip that step. I would add it at the table if I ever thought the food needed it but it never does.

Don't use pepper either, don't like it.

My tastebuds are def on the pro sweet rather than the pro salt team.

I have a salt pig too, beside the stove to use when I’m cooking, but sometimes I want fairly coarsely ground salt too, for things like a tomato salad.

@ItRainedForever

Mine's in a repurposed Gu ramekin. They're just the right size for my salt and pepper mills.
Same here! They're just the job.
IHeartKingThistle · 28/01/2022 20:55

It's all about the pig.

Our salt and pepper grinders live in a small shallow wooden box, which may have been a gift box for miniature whiskies or some such.

BluebellsareBlue · 28/01/2022 21:02

I've got a gravity one so it sits with the grinder at the top and then when you tip it down it automatically grinds so I don't have any salt spill

FleeceNavidadFromTheSheep · 28/01/2022 21:03

Yep, good excuse to eat Gu or Bonne Maman puddings. The ramekins are the perfect size.

redmimi · 28/01/2022 21:04

I've just bought this because of the same annoyance and so far so good 2 Pack Pepper Grinder, Salt and... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07QXY1VFD?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

BarbaraofSeville · 28/01/2022 21:07

Another vote for the Gu ramekin.

It's justification for hanging on to at least one of them, two if you also have a pepper grinder.

APurpleSquirrel · 28/01/2022 21:07

We use a Gu ramekin too for the salt grinder, & a salt pig for flakes.

Theunamedcat · 28/01/2022 21:09

Just put it upside down surely

Whateveryouwant1 · 28/01/2022 21:12

I used a jar lid for mine when it was in the cupboard. V easy solution.

JSL52 · 28/01/2022 21:16

Stand it in a ramekin

ButtockUp · 28/01/2022 21:16

I use a salt pig too.
With regard to our pepper grinder , I do my 15 turns, shake then put it back in its place.

Not sure what the problem is.

catfunk · 28/01/2022 21:16

I just have little pinch pots.

Q1w2e3 · 28/01/2022 21:20

I use the plastic lid of a pringles tube.

I was admiring it!!
Blueeilidh · 28/01/2022 21:20

I think my pepper mill makes more mess but I keep them on the worktop so it just gets wiped up everytime I'm wiping round so not really an issue.
