Fake post taken down re autistic child

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 16:12

I just came back to look at this post, as I had commented - poured my heart out really Sad - about the reality of living with a child (now young man) with autism - as did many other mumsnetters - with your own experiences - and trying to help the OP . The original post was heartbreaking - yet untrue, but the rest of the posts were heartrending.
I feel so sad/angry/ tearful that this has happened - and wonder if getting reactions from our responses the OP got any satisfaction from the actual reality of SEN and lack of support and understanding.

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

Autism bashing thread, probably done to wind the autistics up.
It wasnt that thou it was about autistic child and struggling.
cheekychaplin · 28/01/2022 17:35

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

It worked.

Glad it entertained you then.

It didn't entertain me at all - why would you even say that Sad it's the one thread in many many years here, including arguments, the one thread that has actually hit me hard in real life. I was called an ignorant ableist on that thread for pointing out autism is a disability. What the fuck Confused

Newrunner29 · 28/01/2022 17:36

It wasnt like the negitive behaviours theu were talking about was exaggerated, that is true for me and a lot of others in same situation. Life is tough for alot of families with autism . Thats not being awful to autistic people thats just a reality for lot of families.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/01/2022 17:38

I've been here a long time. There used to be far more post like that from pbp or goady threads about autism . Not to mention all the baby loss troll threads

The way I've always seen it is regardless of the ops intentions your post may help someone reading who is in a similar position

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/01/2022 17:43

Thing is , mn can't keep posts up from pbp just because the content could continue to be helpful to people

It's just given them the attention they seek which usually leads to more and more attention seeking posts.

There's been a few long standing trolls over the years and their posts do tend to get more distressing as time goes on and they crave more attention

Inspectorslack · 28/01/2022 17:44

I avoided that thread from the title alone. Sounds like it was a wise decision

RedCandyApple · 28/01/2022 17:59

So the other thread about medicating a child with autism has been taken down too so it was fake as well?

LoHD · 28/01/2022 18:01

Yes I spent a long time typing a reply as both a parent and professional in this area to hit send and discover that the post was gone!
What is wrong with people!

I’m torn.

I’ve had a thread removed as MNHQ decided it was fake. It was years ago and absolutely true. I was devastated it was removed. It was one of the only times I’d been truly honest about something that happened in my childhood and it being deleted just helped to reinforce that nobody would believe me.

But equally; there are a lot of people who build elaborate online personas across forums, with fake photos and kids and scans and things. And that does a lot of damage, so deleting them is the right thing to do… and MNHQ get it right more than they get it wrong, although there are some fairly high profile mistakes.

I’m sorry you poured your heart out and feel sad it was gone, OP. I’m sure you helped some people x

CPL593H · 28/01/2022 18:10

I asked how she anticipated coping with a tiny, poorly baby as well, which seemed rather key to me, but didn't see any reply to that.

I'm very sorry for the people in difficult situations themselves who posted in good faith. Flowers

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 18:10

@TakeYourFinalPosition I'm truly sorry this happened to you, Flowers hope you get/got the support you need, it must have taken a lot to put your feelings down, only to not be believed. This is the consequences that fake/elaborated posts create
