Fake post taken down re autistic child

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 16:12

I just came back to look at this post, as I had commented - poured my heart out really Sad - about the reality of living with a child (now young man) with autism - as did many other mumsnetters - with your own experiences - and trying to help the OP . The original post was heartbreaking - yet untrue, but the rest of the posts were heartrending.
I feel so sad/angry/ tearful that this has happened - and wonder if getting reactions from our responses the OP got any satisfaction from the actual reality of SEN and lack of support and understanding.

There was a lot of good advice on that thread it's a shame it's been deleted, a lot of emotional effort went into that by posters. There's no way mn would be able to find out it was fake in such a short space of time, albeit I'm sure they had their reasons.

Meowwwwwww · 28/01/2022 16:53

@hugr

I won't share why due to the posters and my own privacy but I do really truly believe that the story is real - there were some very specific identifiable details she has posted elsewhere.
Couldn’t that just mean she likes to post fictitious stories on the internet? Clearly she gets something out of it so it’s not surprising that she might post the same thing in different places.
CorrBlimeyGG · 28/01/2022 16:59

Sadly there are people that build up personas across many sites. Take care not to give too much emotional input into other posters, or disclose personal information.

Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 17:01

A friend of mine got banned from mumsnet for getting into an argument on a thread with another poster - once 3 of her responses were deleted she was banned so it’s nothing to do with making up stories @ButterOllocks

hugr · 28/01/2022 17:03

@Meowwwwwww

It's not solely stories she's posted.

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 17:05

@Mollymalone11. the wording used for MN explanation for taking the post down ended in 'Sorry to everyone who responded in good faith' which I read to mean it was a dubious story - which is what upset me the most .

For anyone who is wondering, it's the "To think autism is often not a gift" thread that was deleted, not the one about the very challenging behaviour (TV smashing etc.)

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 17:09

@hugr she posted last about neighbours Christmas lights being up too long - and that was a long argumentative thread - i've just looked.Confused

Kuachui · 28/01/2022 17:10

to be honest... ive had a thread removed once as they didnt believe it was real but it was and it damn hurt! i was left feeling alone and confused and wondering what in my post made it seem fake etc.

Madhatterrrrr · 28/01/2022 17:10

@Meowwwwwww pretty sure the poster means that they believe they know who the other person is in real life due to identifying info they’ve posted and therefore has good reason to believe the story is true.

Newrunner29 · 28/01/2022 17:12

Ive been thinking about this post , there was a very similar one about severe autistic child and parent struggling and it was taken down for same reason. Im wondering theres no logical reason for someone to write a post like these , they must want support. It isnt like controversial post or anything, i find it so weird that someone would just a post continuous about same topic and it be not reality. Surely they are struggling with some sort of care , i really wonder why they where banned and they clearly need suport.

How would mumsnet know?

I would suspect there are some who don't like things like that being posted about autism rather than the genuine nature of the OP being questioned.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4465625-to-think-autism-is-often-not-a-gift

I have looked via google, and threads like this, with the exact same title have been posted before.

Odd.

RedCandyApple · 28/01/2022 17:17

Tbf there seems to be a poster that constantly posts about an autistic child and their posts are always deleted as a pbp, they posted a while back about their autistic child in a pram and people commenting on it I don’t know if anyone remembers that post? Sounds like it’s the same person that keeps posting

Yep this. ^
ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 17:19

.......but the post has really good advice for the OP -and it generated a lot of good content with links for help and advice - I can't remember where the links took you but they would have benefitted those who were genuinely struggling

WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 28/01/2022 17:19

I don't actually comment on threads about Autism anymore as I have seen so my troll posts in the past. There have been times that I have shared my experiences as well. Its awful and I feel so sad for the people who genuinely post asking for help.

londonrach · 28/01/2022 17:19

Op...it doesn't mean that it's untrue and your advice might have helped a mum who doesn't post and didn't know what to do. Thank you I'm sure your response helped someone. I did read the posts and messaged a friend who's son is none verbal. I didn't realize about the kicking etc ..sorry....my friend messaged me back said been bad day so hopefully I've helped abit but you and everyone else who responded I bet made other people do the same so you have helped x

Newrunner29 · 28/01/2022 17:23

Ive always thought trolls or pbp are people who clearly need attention and they r clearly not getting the attention in real life. So instead of just banning them dont we need to help support them so they no longer feel need. Any people with good mental health isnt wasting their time writing pages and pages about a fictional autistic child and how difficult life is.

Ikeptgoing · 28/01/2022 17:24

MNHQ will probably delete this post as it's a TAAT (Thread about a thread) but I hear you OP
It's v unkind when trolls make up stuff as there are enough irl situations

Would you make your own thread about having a SEN child about what you shared? One that is genuine and can't then be taken down Thanks

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 28/01/2022 17:28

Autism bashing thread, probably done to wind the autistics up.

It worked.

ButterOllocks · 28/01/2022 17:30

@Ikeptgoing my son is older not and the whole school SEN system is behind me - I was sharing what I would've done differently re my youngest son who took a backseat throughout all of the drama - and left home really young because of it - I would have done things differently - which is the advice I was offering

Glad it entertained you then.
