Online shop is coming tomorrow morning, last online shop was Friday but couldn’t go in to store to do top up shop Tuesday like normal due to covid. So what do people make when they don’t have much fresh stuff in? I am sure there are loads of things I could make with what we have but my mind is blank.

What do you have in the fridge/cupboards/garden?

eatsleeplaugh · 27/01/2022 13:30

Get a takeaway? Freezer surprise? Family or friends drop stuff to you?

ThursdayLastWeek · 27/01/2022 13:30

Pasta bake of some sort usually.

Can use up ends of veg, or frozen. Tin of tomatoes. Whatever cheese is left in the fridge.

Thebig3 · 27/01/2022 13:31

Get a takeaway delivered!

Pasta is always my go to for when there's not much in!

FloatyBoaty · 27/01/2022 13:31

Pasta - with pesto, or with tinned toms, anchovies, garlic, chilli flakes and olives.

Risotto with peas and bacon

Jacket potatoes with tuna/cheese/beans

Beans with melted cheese on toast

Omelettes

Pancakes

Fish fingers with macaroni cheese or chips

Fish finger sandwiches

It’s a question of what you have really…

SummerHouse · 27/01/2022 13:36

Depends what you have in the freezer. I have frozen fish mix so I add that to rice a peas, bit of soy sauce. "Fishy rice" nicer than its name.

Or pasta, tomato sauce and tuna with cheese and crushed crisps on top. "Fishy pasta"

Pedalpushers · 27/01/2022 13:37

I always have quorn pieces and peas in the freezer so emergency food usually some sort of rice dish with those and the contents of the spice cupboard. Did it the other day with some dried ginger, soy sauce and 5 spice, was pretty good!

BillyAndTheSillies · 27/01/2022 13:41

Pasta with tomato sauce is usually or go to. Or we usually have bags and bags of gyoza and dim sum in the freezer. Also frozen prawns and veg.

We've also been struck down a few days before our food delivery so tonight is a takeaway, tomorrow will be pasta, Friday I'll do dim sum, Saturday prawn fried rice. Sunday - fresh stuff!

Lunch has been toasted crumpets with cheese and yoghurts for the kids. Might get an Uber grocery delivery of fruit.

TedOnTheBed · 27/01/2022 13:42

I don’t want to risk a takeaway as 2dc has severe allergies and can’t take the risk of not being able to get them due to covid.

It’s mainly fresh veg/salad/fruit we are missing currently have:
12 Granny Smiths
1 leek
1 red pepper
1/2 bag of salad
2 mangos
7 carrots
I have cheese, butter, milk, yogurt, garlic bread, gammon joint and some ham left in the fridge.
Freezer is well stocked with all different types of meat but I don’t buy much frozen veg and have no chip but I do have 30 fish fingers, 12 sausages, peas and sweetcorn.

No tin veg
I do have jarred sauces in the cupboard, rice, pasta and spices, eggs, flour etc

I think it’s the lack of fresh veg and potatoes that has thrown me.

Curried whatever you have.

I really craved a fish finger sandwich when I had covid!

Munchyseeds · 27/01/2022 13:46

Tinned soup and a cheese sandwich would do for us if we had not a lot in

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 27/01/2022 13:46

Macaroni cheese with the ham and fried leeks added.

FreeButtonBee · 27/01/2022 13:47

One meal with limited veg won’t kill you. Just do chopped carrots and pepper and then fish fingers and garlic bread. Call it tapas!

chaos76 · 27/01/2022 13:47

cheesy ham pasta with pepper and leek

TedOnTheBed · 27/01/2022 13:51

Macaroni and cheese is a good idea or ham and cheese omelettes. I know one dinner with no veg won’t hurt us but the lack of veg, potatoes, frozen chips etc has thrown me.

You’ve got loads!

Special fried rice (rice with whatever else you have thrown in).

Apple pie?

Hope you’re all feeling better soon.

Curried whatever.

Pasta and peas.

TheKeatingFive · 27/01/2022 13:54

"Fishy rice" nicer than its name.

🤣

Classica · 27/01/2022 13:55

Nigella's fish finger bhorta or an approximation of. With garlic bread on the side.

www.nigella.com/recipes/fish-finger-bhorta

Classica · 27/01/2022 13:56

Or some spicy/bacony rice dish with a runny egg on top.

Pascha · 27/01/2022 13:56

We went with fish finger sandwiches and beans last week in the same situation. Kids thought it was brilliant.

titchy · 27/01/2022 13:56

There's loads of meals in that lot Confused

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/01/2022 13:56

Meatball pasta bake, slice pepper, leek and Carrots and stirfry, cook the pasta and add peas and sweetcorn towards the end of it time, cook and slice the sausages. Mix all together, add a jar of sauce, top with cheese and bake

TheKeatingFive · 27/01/2022 13:57

I'd do a pasta sauce with the sausages, peppers, leek and assuming you have a tin of tomatoes or sauce.

Serve with pasta and garlic bread if you want to push the boat out.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/01/2022 13:57

Obvs you can make meatballs out the sausages, or just cook and slice!

TheKeatingFive · 27/01/2022 13:58

Great minds 😂
