Sorry shamelessly posting for medical issue!

I was diagnosed yesterday with cellulitis on my outer ear. The GP told me to go to hospital if it got any worse/spread but said he thinks they'd caught it early enough and prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics.

I have only taken three of the tablets so far as I obviously only got them yesterday morning.

I'm a bit worried as it's on my face. I feel very tired but unable to sleep, hot and have a throbbing headache and feel incredibly thirsty but unable to quench it not sure if it's linked or not.

The first picture was this morning when I went to the doctor. The second is now. It's spread to the bottom of my ear and my neck just underneath that now feels tender and sore.

The reason I'm reluctant is firstly because I know I've not really given the antibiotics chance to work yet and secondly I have my young baby here. Going into hospital now would mean waking family to come and stay with him in the middle of the night.

Should I wait and give the ABs more chance to work or?

I hope you have gone to A & E by now and will be seen quickly. Get well soon.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/01/2022 02:09

A and E. Take the baby if necessary. Get your mum to collect from there.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/01/2022 02:15

I'd go to A&E, it looks nasty and cellulitis can spread fast!

Wednesdayafternoon · 27/01/2022 02:26

Oh my goodness that looks SO uncomfortable! I really hope you're ok OP ♥️

Andouillette · 27/01/2022 02:31

Please get yourself to A&E as fast as possible, that looks very nasty indeed. If you find you can't pee and cannot stop shaking phone 999 at once. Been there, done that, got the sepsis t-shirt. I was saved by some (wonderful) very junior doctors and a metric shit-tonne of various antibiotics that they pumped into me a fast as they could.

oakleaffy · 27/01/2022 02:32

@Lucky3333
I had cellulitis after dental work, and even travelling home, I felt very strange and ill.
The swelling came on alarmingly.
the pain was burning, and I felt very nauseous.
I had to be given a specific antibiotic, and mercifully it was caught in time...A neighbour drove me to the surgery.
The dentist actually contacted me in the evening to see how I was.
Cellulitis really isn't something to mess about with, hope you are getting it sorted.

oakleaffy · 27/01/2022 02:37

@Lucky3333
Your mum won't mind being woken
Take your baby with you if necessary.
Time really is of the essence with cellulitis.

Minutes count.

Really hope you are at Hospital now, and will start to feel better when the specific antibiotics they use work.

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/01/2022 02:43

Just adding to the "OMG that looks sore and yes get seen soon".

Eileen101 · 27/01/2022 02:53

For something like that, your mum would surely want to be woken up rather than you putting your health at risk (and potentially your life with sepsis).

Hope you're there and soon start feeling better.

Joystir59 · 27/01/2022 03:41

I think you definitely ought to go to A&,E

YellowMonday · 27/01/2022 03:43

I would not be surprised if you don't need IV antibiotics. I would head into A&E.

AntiStars · 27/01/2022 04:13

A&E - I went after giving it a day of Abx prescribed by the gp but I still couldn’t get on top of the pain. They changed me to some much stronger Abx that did the job. Especially as you now have a temp, don’t wait, a&e will get you on the right Abx and get you sorted much quicker (the gp Abx could take 3 days to work and in that time things could get worse, you sound like you’ve reached the point where hospital could offer you more Rx options). Good luck

LovedayCL · 27/01/2022 04:38

I agree with everyone else, and also, that’s what mum’s are for 💗

Huntswomanonthemove · 27/01/2022 04:41

I hope she’s gone to A & E.

marihen1 · 27/01/2022 04:43

That looks so sore! I would definitely go in now. Like pp said you may need an iv as its spread quite fast.

TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 27/01/2022 05:07

I hope you are in A&E and on IV antibiotics right now OP. When you feel up to it please let us know how you are 💐

LaurenKelsey · 27/01/2022 06:00

I hope you’re being taken care of by now. This is a serious infection and needs prompt attention. I had this on my face a few years ago and it spread rapidly. After being given antibiotics it continued to spread so I had to return for an injection of a stronger antibiotic.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/01/2022 06:02

Hope you are in hospital being treated OP.

custardbear · 27/01/2022 06:04

I hope you've got to hospital by now, it looks nasty

hughfurrywit · 27/01/2022 06:17

Go to hospital. I had this - I had a pre-aricular sinus which got infected and caused cellulitis. I had the same symptoms you describe. I had to be put on IV antibiotics and have it drained. Don’t delay and insist they admit you

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 27/01/2022 06:23

Have to agree with most posters and hope you went to hospital! Hope they dealt with you quickly and effectively too - that does not look at all pleasant! :O

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 27/01/2022 06:35

A&E now. My mum nearly died when she had this. She went from ok to out of it within minutes, collapsed and hit her head on the radiator. She lives alone and had I not found her she would have died.

JuneOsborne · 27/01/2022 06:38

Blimey, you poor thing. That must be so sore. Hoping you're at the hospital already.

LefttoherownDevizes · 27/01/2022 06:40

Just coming on for a hand hold, that looks very nasty

Hope they've put some meds in you and you're feeling a bit perkier

lljkk · 27/01/2022 06:43

Hope you're getting good sleep, Lucky.
