Have a fairly severe pain over where I believe my right ovary to be. Has been getting increasingly worse over the last few weeks and has become significantly worse this evening. I also have pain in my abdomen to the right of my belly button. Have a history of ovarian cysts but none painful like this. Had a very large polyp removed approx a year ago. Have had to have pre cancerous cells removed from cervix before but attend my smears and nothing worrying since. I'm really quite anxious about all of this and not sure whether it is urgent or not. Will try and see my GP but might be a fair wait! Sorry for posting in AIBU. I'm very anxious and could use some guidance.

Hi there
I'd be doing to A&E now if it was me to hopefully put my mind at ease - sending a big virtual hug 🤗

sausagedogsforever · 23/01/2022 22:34

I'd also be going to A&E to be honest. Hope everything's ok x

justamumseekingadvice · 23/01/2022 22:34

If you are being completely honest - are you literally rocking back and forth with pain? Have you been sick because of the pain? If so - yes I would get it checked incase it’s a twisted ovary. I also suffer from cysts and some have been more painful than others - once I literally crawled into a&e and it had started bleeding into my stomach which was making the pain worse. However, if it’s just painful but you’re still being able to watch tv, go on your phone etc I would probably wait and book an urgent GP appointment tomorrow x

Not sure if I can handle A&E with a toddler at this time of night and I've had pelvic issues for so long I think I've become slightly numb to them (mentally, sadly not physically!)

Phone 111, if nothing else they may be able to get you and out of hours GP appointment if you need it, you don’t loose anything by phoning them so that’d be my first stop

Darbs76 · 23/01/2022 22:36

Sounds like you need medical attention OP. A&E if you feel the pains bad enough or call for an emergency appointment, don’t wait it out, I’ve done that with acute pancreatitis and a ruptured appendix. Severe stomach pains needs to be checked

Neither of those things however do feel incredibly nauseous. Definitely not agony (aka childbirth) but am limping slightly on my right when walking (more a nagging pain similar to pelvic girdle). I'm not going to go to A&E tonight but just wondering if I should push for my gp to take me seriously and refer quickly (they don't always with women's issues).

Could you be pregnant? Is there a chance? Appendicitis? Agree, you need to go to A&E and get the toddler minded by your partner or family.

ThoseFestiveLights · 23/01/2022 22:38

111 as others have advised. When were you last scanned?

Very, very unlikely I'm pregnant (sex once around a month ago with condom and again a few days ago and am also covered by the pill). Don't have an appendix Grin

Are you on your own with toddler? It may not be an A&E at night situation but it’s certainly more than a ‘pushing GP to refer’ situation so you need to go to urgent care as soon as possible in the morning.

When I had the polyp removed so a year ago and also had a cyst then (though not sure on which side). I'm going to call gp first thing and if they can't see me will 111. Thanks all. It's really easy to ignore this kind of thing.

I am. When I say toddler, he's no really, he's just turned 3 so small child. But still, he's not going to sit in A&E patiently. Also my gut doesn't tell me it's an A&E situation. Appreciative of the advice from sensible folks on here. Thanks all for the reassurance.

Also just want to say that’s the pattern that a lot of my cysts go by - the on and off niggling pain whilst it’s growing etc and then all of a sudden a much worse pain for a few hours - couple of days where it’s burst… however just to be on the safe side because of your history - definitely try and push through a referral x

Did you have any fever or vomiting etc when they burst? I have had a cyst present on almost every ultrasound I've had, which is quite a few due to my history, and whilst I've experienced bad (not severe) pain, I'm not sure I've ever had one rupture. Asking more out of curiosity now!

LowlyTheWorm · 23/01/2022 22:48

@FeckingOvaries I had a ruptured cyst. No fever or vomiting but such severe pain I passed out and thought I was miscarrying or that my coil had perforated my womb…

That's what I mean. My pain isn't close to that bad. It's more dull than anything else but I'm exhausted because it's kept me up at night for the past couple of nights. What you experienced sounds awful. Did you need treatment?

OP posts:
justamumseekingadvice · 23/01/2022 22:51

For me it depends - sometimes it’s been so bad where I’ve been close to vomiting, literally on the floor rocking with the pain… other times it’s just been like very very bad period pain but can be controlled by pain meds - but it’s also caused pain going down by thigh sometimes and a bit of weakness on that leg and they said it could be where the cyst was pressing on a nerve etc x

Completely forgot to put in my OP that the pain is radiating through my thigh all the way down to my calf (the latter is where I feel it most). It's infuriatingly annoying!

Is it sore on your right side when you touch it? Or swollen? Might be appendicitis. Please do get it checked if the pain is that bad that you are limping because of it.

Nope, thankfully don't have an appendix!

Aside from the pain and nausea do you feel well? As in not faint or like your heart is racing? If I felt particularly unwell I would call 111 but if the pain was managable at home with pharmacy strength over the counter meds I would wait until the am. I would doubt very much that you would get an ultrasound or CT overnight so going to hospital tonight would most likely be to check blood pressure/pulse make sure no emergency is going on and to manage pain until am review by a consultant and ?imaging as required. Have you taken analgesia?

One trust i work for has an ambulatory clinic during the working week so your GP refers you that day with abdominal pain, you go in and see a consultant, you have whatever scan you need and get home that evening with whatever medicine is required. It saves you the annoyance of being admitted unnecessarily and hassle and childcare issues it brings. Hopefully your nearest hospital has something similar and you get what you need tomorrow.

Thanks. None of the super worrying symptoms. I feel alright. Just the pain that's nagging. Taken otc pain meds, don't have anything else. Not a chance I am going to A&E tonight. Been referred via the 2 week referral three times, twice they found a large cyst, and once a polyp a cyst. Can never tell when my anxiety is justified or not. Guessing it'll be another 2 week referral tomorrow!
