Since our government wont vaccine our kids can uk under 1s go into things such as the theatre or restaurants or not. We booked a trip but now we don't think we can go cos our child is unvaccinated the guidance is so unclear

I know and I was worried that would exclude us and had prepared a vague story about how we would be “staying” for a while (they vaccinate undocumented people no questions asked) but according to the person who vaccinated my child they count anyone in New York as resident because who knows what might happen to extend your stay. Also remember it’s only New York requiring vaccines so I had a back up plan of going to Boston or Washington if we couldn’t do anything or go anywhere. If your trip is non refundable that’s another option

gobbledygoook · 22/01/2022 20:52

We went in December - families in front of us in several restaurants were turned away, English and French families who had unvaccinated children and weren't allowed in.

If you do get your DC vaccinated over there, you're banking on a slot to be able to do this, which is risky! Also the risk of being unable to register the vaccine on their NHS record (as it's from a foreign country).

Lockeddownagain · 22/01/2022 20:53

Why can't book a solt?

Thanks for posting this. We booked ages and ages ago to go in October with our kids…. wonder if vaccines will be available by then.

LadyLovealotte · 22/01/2022 21:04

So, you can register your CDC vaccine with the NHS. However it might not work out right for your child to get the second shot time wise unless you’re staying in NYC/US for a few weeks.

Depending on when you’re going the weather might also be perfectly fine for dining outdoors which is presume would be ok. Also, things are bound to ease up and the vaccine requirement might no longer be in force when you go.

Best of luck

@Oinkypig

I was in New York before Christmas with my under 11 and got them vaccinated there when we arrived. No cost and no queue and I used the hotel address. I was honest we were on holiday (the rules changed a couple of days before we went) child had no side effects either. The restaurants weren’t so strict everywhere but the museums/attractions were.
Good luck with getting NHS England to recognise that, if / when your DD ever needs a UK vaccine record! (They won't even recognise Welsh & Scottish jabs)
Oinkypig · 22/01/2022 21:10

@CamomileTeabag well I don’t live in England so not worried about NHS England and given we have all had to have three doses not overly concerned that my child will be ahead of schedule

I'm not sure what you mean

At the time I was there you didn’t need to book a slot, it’s possible to book slots but plenty of walk-in services were available. That may change but if it doesn’t there are many walk in clinics all over the entire city of New York (not just Manhattan) we went to Times Square and get a vaccine late afternoon with no queuing or appointment just before Christmas. I’m not saying this is guaranteed just sharing how we managed to get vaccinated without much stress

Lockeddownagain · 22/01/2022 21:16

I'm.not worried about England I don't live there

OP posts:
gobbledygoook · 22/01/2022 21:20

Ah okay - where do you live?

First part of my comment - we saw multiple families being turned away as they had unvaccinated children. The restaurants we went to were strict on this.

The second part was assuming you were uk based - I know people who have had trouble registering vaccines with the healthcare system when the vaccines were administered abroad.

Obviously if you're not UK based only the first part applies!

Lockeddownagain · 22/01/2022 21:23

I'm in the UK just not in England

Since the 27th Dec, you are required to have had 2 doses of vax to eat in/ go to theatres etc. so yes you could get your child vax once but it still wouldn’t help, as they would need 2 doses.

C4tintherug · 22/01/2022 21:29

And yes they are strict, it’s a state mandate.

PurrBox · 22/01/2022 21:29

My daughter's US vaccine was recognised by the NHS. We made an appointment, showed the documentation, and she got the QR code about 3 days later. It was very easy. Also very easy and free to get a vaccine or a Covid test in NY.

Lockeddownagain · 22/01/2022 21:29

No they don't it's 1 gor under 11s

PurrBox · 22/01/2022 21:30

Is the one dose Johnson vaccine ok for kids? You can get whichever vaccine you want in the US, though you might have to look around a bit

C4tintherug · 22/01/2022 21:31

Apologies, mine are over 11. I would just get them done there then. Loads of pharmacies all over the place.

Clymene · 22/01/2022 21:34

I think you'll just have to defer your trip. Surely your insurance will cover it if you can't take one of the passengers into a restaurant!

Clymene · 22/01/2022 21:36

But like you said, you have to be double vaxxed, The OP's child hasn't had any vaccinations and can't get any because she's under 12

Only Pfizer is cleared for under 12s in US.
Lockeddownagain · 22/01/2022 21:52

Just read you have to be 14days clear of the vaccine

OP posts:
Oinkypig · 22/01/2022 22:03

Ah if you have to be 14 days post vac now that’s different. It depends if you can’t get the trip refunded I would still go, we weren’t asked for vaccines in China town, little Italy or Staten Island. The museums were strict but shops and outdoor venues for ice skating, Central Park Didn’t require proof. Fingers crossed things change and Hope you get to New York at some
Point soon!
