Man cleaner in women changing rooms

Globaluser · 22/01/2022 08:17

So I moved to Europe a year ago nearly and just recently started coming to the gym.

In this gym there were no notices up to state there’s both male and female cleaners. So I was caught kinda off guard when I walked out the shower and came across a man mopping the floors.

So I’m wondering since I didn’t really go to any u.k gyms. Is this actually normal?

I mean for me that means I will be showering at home from now on, as I see a difference between women seeing me naked and a man seeing me naked.
So I just wanted to ask how many of you would mind and how many of you have come across a male cleaner in a womens changing room in the u.k.
Thank you ☺️

@JigglyPiggly no i am not. Is it hard for you to understand why a woman, would feel uncomfortable or unsafe changing in front of a male cleaner. ?

OK you don't......but I don't know any woman who would feel happy about it

And I don't know one woman who wouldn't be ok with it

Add into that this is still common practice it's far more realistic those who are fine are the majority

If gyms had multiple women complaining they'd most likely act, as they're a business and need the custom

Fact is not enough women care about it

Those who do are in the minority

Pretty simple concept to grasp

JigglyPiggly · 22/01/2022 13:07

@MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor

Send me a link where a woman at the gym has been attacked by a male cleaner

Is this a particular gym that you have in mind? Or any gym. Don't you think male predators can travel? Don't you think male predators are attracted to jobs where they can access vulnerable women and girls?

Any gym will do

I'll be waiting for this proof it's such a real life concern

Was he dressed like an elf?
Made me laugh 🤣

@MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor

Most normal people aren't scared or fearful of something with no known risk factors there

What you actually think the majority of normal women haven't experienced some level of sexual harassment or sexual assault from a male?

Or is it that you just can't see past your own narrow experience...

Never said that did I?

Goodness me, you can't make a decent argument and now you are demonstrating an inability to read

I think you issues go way deeper than distrust of random men

WomanStanleyWoman · 22/01/2022 13:08

The best pool in our area, I can’t use, because they only have communal showers and everyone keeps their costumes on. Fine for the men but I can’t wash my bits in a swimsuit and if I wait until I’m home the chlorine sitting on my dry skin gives me thrush (30 min drive) 🤢

I don’t think it is fine for men, actually. I would think sticking your hand down your trunks in a mixed communal shower to have a wash easily could be misinterpreted! I think a lack of single-sex showers, or at least individual cubicles, is a bad idea all round.

fandangoclem · 22/01/2022 13:09

No..they just shower at home..because they become abnormal to complain.

Normal to see a male cleaner in our public toilets and changing rooms. Haven't seen anyone making a fuss about it, certainly doesn't bother me any. I don't automatically assume every man is a perv/about to molest me so that might have something to do with it.

No. I'm not a man, that's just my username.

It's only on MN where this thing seems to cause a fuss!

Thirtytimesround · 22/01/2022 13:12

Reading the thread in more detail I see a lot of the discussion is debating female safety and perceptions of safety. Not much mention of female dignity. I have never known a woman who feels comfortable being nude, or nearly nude, around strange (fully clothed) men. It isn’t a situation where the woman has any dignity, irrespective of the safety issue.

There is a huge shift in society towards depriving women of respect and dignity. I see it in the way people no longer stand up in trains to offer a seat to pregnant women, I see it in the workplace, I see it in policing where men protesting are tolerated but women protesting are violently shoved to the ground and arrested, I see it in the transgender debate, I see it in schools, where at primary age girls are forced to change for PE in front of boys (while the boys stare at and joke about the girls bodies), and at secondary school where sexual assault and harassment of girls has never been higher. It’s particularly prevalent in porn where there has been a huge shift from showing consensual sex with the woman being turned on, to humiliation/violent porn where women are presented as a victim and this is supposed to be sexy.

It’s so so sad. I guess historically women have been treated like crap for millennia, apart from what in the West’s historical terms was a blip starting with medieval chivalry and ending perhaps around the eighties.

Now women are told they’re unreasonable for wanting any privacy or dignity. Women’s bodies must be available for viewing by any man who wants to wander by. Women who are uncomfortable with this will be subjected to waves of hate.

So anyone being scared of being mugged whilst walking home alone is not normal…? @JigglyPiggly

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 22/01/2022 13:13

I've got one of those towels with straps and velcro for the gym, I take that my hair turban towel and my knickers into the shower cubicle (large and have a hook to hang things) that way when I'm coming out I feel dressed. In summer I just take a sun dress and dry off and throw that on in the shower cubicle. There are male and female cleaners they shout but I don't always hear from the shower, and no private changing cubicles. The cleaners seem to get in and out pretty quickly so I just do my hair etc first.

fandangoclem · 22/01/2022 13:14

@Thirtytimesround I so agree

Deflection ✅

Minimising the risk to women. ✅

Are you nearly at the bottom of your crib sheet yet? As I can still see what you are. Your tactics are not working.

@Globaluser

What on earth are you on about Confused

Depends on the area, if someone was walking along a well lit high street in the middle of Harrogate at 13:00 then yes they wouldn't be normal

If they were at night, alone in a high crime area? Of course not

It's called assessing risk. The biggest factor for that is an event happening before.

You are very strange indeed

LakieLady · 22/01/2022 13:16

@fandangoclem

For everyone saying he didn't see her naked...you have totally missed the point. Why should women gave to put up with this and feel uncomfortable ..and for those saying go home and shower...so its ok to pay for something but not actually use it
If gyms, pools etc had to employ 2 cleaners, one of each sex, the cleaning bill would double.

Still can't show any identifiable, realistic risk to women from male cleaners in gym changing rooms

I can show it's more likely to be killed by your own children than attacked by a cleaner in the gym, will you then stay away from your kids?

The perception of risk on here is frightening, please seek help

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 13:18

It's called assessing risk. The biggest factor for that is an event happening before

Good risk assessments would also show that males in areas where women undress is a safeguarding risk. You know the words, but you don't have the depth to understand what it really means.

Again, all you have is words

No actual links, or evidence this is an actual risk

you can't even show me one incident of a male cleaner attacking a female getting changed at the gym

Thirtytimesround · 22/01/2022 13:19

@WomanStanleyWoman you imply that communal showers are equally a problem for men. You’re wrong. The younger men stand there grinning and covertly watching the women wash. They seem quite happy and occasionally have erections, it’s grim. The more mature men turn towards the wall, pull their trunks away slightly from their bodies, and allow the shower to cascade in to clean them. Both groups look comfortable to me and certainly this is completely different to having filthy chemical pool water move in and out of the vagina during swimming and then having no way to clean it straight after, particularly as the shower points down not up: again fine for men less useful for women for cleaning genitals. Why are you so keen to say the male experience is just the same as the female experience, in a situation when the completely different biology is so relevant?

No need to reply, I won’t be bothering to check back, if you can’t grasp this very simple issue I can’t imagine we have much to say to each other.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 13:19

Pathetic attempt and deliberate failure to acknowledge the risk that males present to women. ✅

Janesmom · 22/01/2022 13:20

@JigglyPiggly Couldn’t agree more. I find the weird obsession posters have with almost non-existent risks is truly bizarre. And then the bluster when they’re asked to provide any shred of evidence in support of their claims!

JigglyPiggly · 22/01/2022 13:22

Still no proof of this large risk I see

Pathetic

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 13:26

There's plenty of evidence of men in their work, accessing women's spaces deliberately. There's plenty of evidence of men, not in their work, accessing women's spaces deliberately.

Do you think male cleaners who clean changing rooms in gyms are a special kind of male that wouldn't do this?

Globaluser · 22/01/2022 13:26

@JigglyPiggly is very much under the impression everything is reported and everything is circulated in the news 😂

You really shouldn’t be so naive.
