Man cleaner in women changing rooms

Globaluser · 22/01/2022 08:17

So I moved to Europe a year ago nearly and just recently started coming to the gym.

In this gym there were no notices up to state there’s both male and female cleaners. So I was caught kinda off guard when I walked out the shower and came across a man mopping the floors.

So I’m wondering since I didn’t really go to any u.k gyms. Is this actually normal?

I mean for me that means I will be showering at home from now on, as I see a difference between women seeing me naked and a man seeing me naked.
So I just wanted to ask how many of you would mind and how many of you have come across a male cleaner in a womens changing room in the u.k.
Thank you ☺️

@MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor

Why would they hire 2x as many staff as they need because a few women are being difficult about it?

Women are being difficult because they don't want to undress in front of men?

It's clear what you are.

That many women find a mixed sex environment inaccessible when in a state of undress is a standard bit of knowledge, and recruiting/planning for those roles will be part of it. It's hardly an unreasonable burden. Women's spaces have to be accessible to all women,.

Your body your choice. Get your kit off in front of whoever you like whenever you like, crack on. Other women are equally entitled to set their own boundaries where they wish, and in terms of consent, no always trumps yes.

girlmom21 · 22/01/2022 11:09

@WomanStanleyWoman

So they'd have to hire 2 members of staff for every shift then? Do you not see how silly that sounds

It doesn’t sound silly at all. It would have to be a very small gym to only need one cleaner.

If they've only got 2 cubicles it probably is small
JigglyPiggly · 22/01/2022 11:11

@Artichokeleaves

Then those women can go elsewhere

Or shower at home

Or live in a cave

KurtWilde · 22/01/2022 11:12

Normal for changing rooms and public toilets in the U.K., there's usually a sign up though to give you a heads up.

Do you honestly think every man in the world wants to see you naked?

Men are responsible for the majority of sexual assault and violence. No I don't think every man in the world wants to see me or other women naked. But this does not detract from the fact that some men would be more than happy with this situation. And it doesn't detract from the fact that most women will either be sexually harassed or sexually assaulted by a male at some point in their life. Sadly this is widespread and unfortunately normal.

Your minimising this shows you up for what you are.

Someone who understands the basics of running a business and common sense?

You do you, but don't expect businesses to bend and incur costs so you can have your safe space

Do you honestly think if this was such a widespread issue gyms wouldn't have only women cleaners?

Moonmelodies · 22/01/2022 11:15

I seems to remember camping holidays in Europe as a kid where there were mixed showers. All kinds of things dangling and swinging about, no-one batted an eyelid.

fandangoclem · 22/01/2022 11:25

Incredible...only when its women do we hear the cry of..Well if you don't like it fuck off. Feel uncomfortable. Tough. Feel unsafe, tough.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 11:26

You do you, but don't expect businesses to bend and incur costs so you can have your safe space

No I'll just go to the businesses that do respect women's right to undress free from male eyes. Which is always going to be a better business move when encouraging women to use their services.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/01/2022 11:27

girlmom21

@fandangoclem what are you 'Ffs'ing at?
I don't particularly want to see naked women wandering around when I'm at the gym hmm“

This.
Don’t you use towels?

fandangoclem · 22/01/2022 11:31

@MrsSkylerWhite ax I explained....its not the towel.. its the fact that a women says I feel uncomfortable with a man in the changing room and the response is..use a towel like that makes it ok

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 11:37

Isn't one naked under a towel, so I can see why you might feel vulnerable

buzzy06 · 22/01/2022 11:38

@WomanStanleyWoman

I suppose it's each swingers right though so don't really matter.

Is that a rather brilliant autocorrect, or is your gym really full of swingers? Grin

Swimmers 😭😂

sillysmiles · 22/01/2022 11:40

What's the answer then? They employ both male and female cleaners, and they want to keep the place clean (this is good).

Surely the answer is they put a pricedure in place where if there is only a male cleaner on duty they 1) but up a sign to say so 2) close the changing room for 10 minutes to do a clean 3) put a sign up to say changing room is currently being cleaned by a male member of staff. 4) set up a schedule so gym members would know.

It comes down to whether the gym has a policy so that gym members know and can decide to either extend their work out or not bother showering.
But really the problem here was the lack of communication.
I wouldn't expect the gym to hire twice the staff, i would expect them though to have a policy in place to clearly communicate with their customers and minimise discomfort for all parties -staff and customers.

Just typical minimising and ignoring the problem. Straight off the crib sheet.

Most men don't want to see you naked anyway. ✅
Well just wear a towel then.✅
If you don't like it then fuck off go somewhere else or stay at home.✅
Most women are happy to get naked in front of strange men. I see it all the time.✅
It doesnt make financial business sense to create spaces where women can undress away from men.✅

And repeat ad nauseum...

Globaluser · 22/01/2022 11:43

Is it just me or am I sensing some very subtle victim blaming here.

“I feel uncomfortable with a male cleaner in female changing rooms”

“Wear a towel then”

“You live in a cave”

Wow, just wow!!!

I assumed the OP meant changing cubicles, not shower cubicles.

It's gone beyond subtle now. It's right there in your face. Now do shut up ladies and don't worry yourself about this. Nothing to see here. It's all in your own head. Perfectly fine for women to get undressed in front of men they don't know ✅
MrsSkylerWhite · 22/01/2022 11:46

Why are you a victim? Has the cleaner harmed you?

CounsellorTroi · 22/01/2022 11:47

Exactly, this is why my gym, as I mentioned above, swapped the changing rooms around when maintenance work was being done in the female changing room, so that women would not have to use it when male workmen were in there.
Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2022 11:48

No I won’t be having a word

Then nothing will change.

How are you a bloody victim

Get a grip

Then you do that

The fact that so many gyms have male cleaners for female and male changing rooms process the point that women like you aren't the majority

If it made business sense they'd all do it

Thankfully in the real world sensitive sally's aren't the norm.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 11:53

@MrsSkylerWhite

I don't know the cleaner you refer to. But if you are asking me if I have been a victim of male sexual violence, then the answer would be yes.
roarfeckingroarr · 22/01/2022 11:54

Never at my gym, always female cleaners in women's changing rooms. I would not be happy with a man in there.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 11:55

You clearly don't have a grasp on the real world. Why don't you pull your head out of your arse and take a reality check.
