Fish - would you have eaten it?

So just had a row with h - I made imho a lovely dinner of whole trout and salad with pickles, cheese and coleslaw. He refused to eat it. Why? He bought it New Year’s Eve. I froze it on the same day - I checked and it said can be frozen.
So yes I’m right and it was fine
No wtf were you thinking and it is dangerous to eat.

Make sure your DP researches how freezers work. You basically freeze the germs in the state they are on the day that you froze the item.

mamaoffourdc · 20/01/2022 19:01

@Jubaju

Just make owl noises at him until he listens to your reasoning 😃
😂😂😂😂😂
CabbageFarmer · 20/01/2022 19:03

Not if it winked at me from the plate.

Your husband is not a very intelligent man, is he?

Grin Grin -

He's thick AF

But - I do actually like the sound of your coleslaw/cheese and pickle combo (sounds tasty to me) - and I would definitely eat that and the trout - no worries.

anotherbrewplease · 20/01/2022 19:06

@Flowersandhearts - I really don't think the OP'd DH will be into 'researching' anything.

It would be interesting to know how old he is....

VelvetChairGirl · 20/01/2022 19:08

I would eat the fish but not the stuff you put with it so I voted YABU

Bluesheep8 · 20/01/2022 19:12

Is he generally lacking in intelligence?

Clearlynotmyname · 20/01/2022 19:19

It sounds like a lovely dinner (I could eat cheese with everything). How can you stand to be married to someone so dim?

nancy75 · 20/01/2022 19:28

I wouldn’t eat it, I know it’s safe but don’t like frozen fish or meat & never have it.
The only things in our freezer are chips & ice cream.

Oneearringlost · 20/01/2022 19:31

@Flocon

whole trout and salad with pickles, cheese and coleslaw. I don't like the sound of this combo but it sounds safe to eat
I think It sounds lovely. OP, your d is lucky to have you.
Glitterspy · 20/01/2022 19:31

Cheese and pickles, yum.

You’re not unreasonable and you know it. Your DH is, for not contributing to shopping or cooking any of your food, and for not understanding how freezers work.

HelloBunny · 20/01/2022 19:33

Fish + coleslaw = no

Fish + freezer = fine

Oneofthosedreadfulparents · 20/01/2022 19:37

Does this help - very short article, look at the bit that starts 'waste prevention tip: www.thesaferfoodgroup.com/knowledge/use-by-dates-and-best-before-dates/

Would he rather waste food?

Perfect28 · 20/01/2022 19:38

Why are you married to a man you so clearly have to mother that he needs a) his food served to him, including traditional elements b) an explanation of how a freezer works.

chesirecat99 · 20/01/2022 19:44

He thinks they work like fridges. I actually take stuff out of packets and freeze. He thinks the date is still valid despite it being frozen so I hide dates.

Don't fresh packaged foods that have a use by date usually also have storage instructions on the label eg freeze on day of purchase and eat within one month? Can't you show him that?

turnaroundtime · 20/01/2022 20:27

OP please entertain us with details of other weird delusions your DH is under

waitingpatientlyforspring · 20/01/2022 20:32

I used to buy those frube yogurts for the kids. When on special offer I would stock up and freeze them - in lunch boxes they were defrosted by lunch time. Kids switched to school dinners so stopped eating them. When dd went to have one she chucked them all out as they were 'out of date'

Pythonesque · 20/01/2022 20:44

If he bought the fish, and considered it had to be eaten within a day or two regardless of freezing or not, how come he didn't make sure it got cooked for a meal within said day or two of purchase?

Feetupteashot · 20/01/2022 20:54

Freezing ok but Confused for cheese and coleslaw
