Fish - would you have eaten it?

MrsPear · 19/01/2022 19:07

So just had a row with h - I made imho a lovely dinner of whole trout and salad with pickles, cheese and coleslaw. He refused to eat it. Why? He bought it New Year’s Eve. I froze it on the same day - I checked and it said can be frozen.
So yes I’m right and it was fine
No wtf were you thinking and it is dangerous to eat.

More food for you I guess while he sulks. Take it as a win

girlmom21 · 19/01/2022 19:58

It sounds rank but the fish would be safe to eat.

pigsDOfly · 19/01/2022 19:58

I live on my own and buy fresh fish from the fish monger in the supermarket.

When I get it home I clean and gut it and freeze it. Fish like salmon, I'll buy a large piece and cut it into meal sizes then freeze it for later use.

If you don't freeze fresh fish it must be eaten by the next day, however, frozen it can be used after several weeks. That's how freezers work.

Does he think that all the shelves of frozen fish in the supermarket were caught the day before you buy them.

He sounds rather silly tbh.

1forAll74 · 19/01/2022 20:13

Maybe he thinks that the fish had already been frozen, before it was put out for sale, then it became unfrozen thereafter, and then you froze it again, some people can have odd ideas about such things. I always have trout fresh from the river.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/01/2022 20:14

Of course it’s fine. It’s not a matter of opinion. Tell him to look up the guidelines on freezing freeze. What does he think freezing is FOR?

ufucoffee · 19/01/2022 20:16

He'll find out if you were right or not when you're not ill. He's being daft.

Sexnotgender · 19/01/2022 20:16

Is he not very bright?

Undecicive · 19/01/2022 20:27

That's the whole point of having a freezer.

I opened a a sour cream I found in the fridge yesterday. Expiry 30th November. It was as good as new (hell knows what's in it to keep good for this long), fed it to 2 adults and 2 kids, all pretty much alive.

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/01/2022 20:30

How did he get to adulthood if he is that thick?

He'd never eat anything surely?

Or does he just save this nonsense for you?

harrystylestaylorswift · 19/01/2022 20:31

Would he think google was wrong if he looked up what a freezer does and it said exactly what you tell him?Confused

nahdenmardybum · 19/01/2022 20:35

@MrsPear

He thinks they work like fridges. I actually take stuff out of packets and freeze. He thinks the date is still valid despite it being frozen so I hide dates. I do all cooking and usually shopping so I get away with freezing meat normally. But he bought the fish - so I got caught out and all hell broke loose.
I'm so sorry but this is fucking hilarious. The last sentence made me laugh out loud
angelikacpickles · 19/01/2022 20:44

Why on earth would anyone ever freeze anything if it didn't make it last longer? Your DH is being ridiculous.

Send him this. It says 2-4 months (and I'd say that's very conservative).

Are you sure he's not just using it as an excuse to get out of eating that fairly horrible sounding combo? Who eats cheese with trout? or coleslaw with trout? just NO!

MeSanniesareBrannies · 19/01/2022 20:50

He could Google this and educate himself in about 10 seconds. He’s choosing not to.
GemmaRuby · 19/01/2022 20:52

He’s being ridiculous. In any case you can tell pretty easily by the smell if fish is off.

Forrandomposts · 19/01/2022 21:14

What does he think is the difference between a fridge and a freezer?

Georgeskitchen · 19/01/2022 21:37

He needs some lessons in deep frozen food!!

BobMortimersPetOwl · 20/01/2022 18:27

The combo sounds weird and not very nice. I don't think fish freezes very well and I don't like frozen fish or seafood at all. But its perfectly safe to eat.

Meandthesky · 20/01/2022 18:29

I normally come into these threads saying I wouldn’t eat it because I’m quite fussy about these things. But it was frozen, of course it’s fine, that’s the whole point of freezing it!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/01/2022 18:31

Please tell your dh that I have eaten previously frozen fish on more occasions than I can count, so either I am extremely dead, or he is wrong, @MrsPear!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/01/2022 18:38

Is he scared of the microwave as well, by any chance? Says things like 'Oh, no, 'stick with what you know', that's what I say'?

I'm an absolute stickler for food hygiene - and a fresh fish frozen on the day of purchase is absolutely fine.

I'd also happily eat the coleslaw, pickles and cheese with it - it sounds lovely. As long as there were some potatoes and fresh herbs as well.

Dillydollydingdong · 20/01/2022 18:44

I'd probably eat the fish but nothing else. Or I'd have mashed potato with peas and green beans.Wink

JustWonderingIfYou · 20/01/2022 18:48

How do you like with such an idiot? Honestly I don't think I could marry someone so stupid.

Although equally wouldn't eat your weird food combo.

Jubaju · 20/01/2022 18:51

Just make owl noises at him until he listens to your reasoning 😃

Flowersandhearts · 20/01/2022 18:53

Haha, surely that's just an excuse because he doesn't want to eat trout?
