Which is the best online shopping delivery? Another one leaving Ocado

DollyPartBaked · 19/01/2022 09:16

Sorry AIBU to ask for help on this first world problem.

Decided to leave Ocado, currently have the full smart pass and love the app but it's too expensive and customer service is poor. I've been with them for 10 years + so feel pretty institutionalised!

I occasionally get Waitrose but not a fan of paying for delivery on top of smart pass.

Has anyone left Ocado and found the magic balance between affordability, a decent app and good choice? Our area will be able to get all the major supermarkets.

Watching with interest OP. I’ve done a few shops with Waitrose and the food quality was great but lots of subs, not so much choice in branded goods/product size and lack of bags (we have a big family with 3 teen boys and I like to do a massive shop every 2 weeks/batch cook/freeze) so the unpacking of everything when it arrived was stressful!

Plus points was nicer bread!

Where else would be good to try? Repeat slot booking would be good too…

Saynotopineappleonpizza2021 · 19/01/2022 09:25

I want to swap to waitrose but they don't seem to do a smart pass that I've spotted?

Ninkanink · 19/01/2022 09:31

I’ve always been very happy with Morrison’s.

millymae · 19/01/2022 09:31

I was a late comer to Ocado and there is no one who offers such a wide choice even without M&S.
For me the thing that let them down was the packing - I’ve had bags of flour and packets of cereal that have arrived damaged and damp because as far as I can tell they have been transported in a very chilled environment. Tins have been plonked in bags with cakes, and smelly products like toilet blocks have been in mixed bags with foodstuffs. It is all so disorganised.
I never had an issue with booking a slot -and always managed to find a cheap one that suited me. The drivers have all been great and when I’ve asked to be refunded it’s always been handled quickly. I don’t think you I’ve ever had anything substituted so for me stock was never been an issue.
I’ve given up all home deliveries at the moment. Prior to Ocado I used Tesco, but didn’t renew my delivery saver. Being honest I found Tesco excellent and if I decide to use anyone again, would return to them.
I could never get a slot with Waitrose, used click and collect once, but wouldn’t do so again as I could have probably dome my shop myself in the time it took them to fetch my bags.I have a Sainsbury’s on the doorstep so don’t feel the need to have a home delivery with them.

PicaK · 19/01/2022 09:34

Morrisons on Amazon Prime is working well for me. Slightly inflated prices but I don't spend fuel getting there so I think it balances out.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2022 09:36

Sainsbury’s are good. They seem reliable and they have a good environmental rating (with whoever decides these things!).

I was using Morrison’s but got let down a few times. Their food is good though.

Recently trying Aldi click and collect which they have near me - that’s been good so far!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 19/01/2022 09:37

I am hanging on with Ocado at the moment,

I think their customer service is good, not many missing items and easy to get slots. I was a priority customer during pandemic and was grateful.

Having said that I miss waitrose products and overall am not as happy as I was before they went with M&S.

I can walk to my local waitrose and do to stock up on things I miss but use ocado for the bulky heavy things and basics.

When I tried to use waitrose online the number of missing/subs was shocking-just too unreliable for me sadly.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 19/01/2022 09:41

I like ocado, i always find the customer service excellent and the subs good 🤷‍♀️ Expense wise it’s always cheaper for me online, I can shop for offers and there’s less impulse buying. I also like ocado own brand stuff.

However I find sainsburys fine too. Their subs are often less sensible but I switch to a sainsburys order now and again if there’s something specific I want or whatever.

DollyPartBaked · 19/01/2022 09:41

I was grateful for my slot in the pandemic but I wasn't impressed that they took away all the offers - things that you'd always have an offer on, like dishwasher tablets were then full price (Ocado full price not a normal price!)

I held on for the Christmas slots (which you still have to pay for!) but I think the news alert I got from BBC about the rise in the cost of living has pushed me over the edge! It's ridiculous staying with the most expensive supermarket for the sake of an app.

I find Sainsburys good. I also been trying Amazon Fresh as they have Booths in their range and I can get it delivered pretty quickly for free if I spend over £40. We're trialling Morrisons too.

Aurorie11 · 19/01/2022 09:46

I switched from Ocado to Morrisons a few months ago. Very happy with the change

FindmeuptheFarawaytree · 19/01/2022 09:49

We switched to Tesco's, which I know always divides opinion. I like that I can select whether I am happy to have a substitute by item and that if these would normally be more expensive I don't have to pay the extra. I do tend to get 1-2 subs per order, but they are usually more or less like for like. I also think the quality of their loose fruit and veg has improved recently.

WhosThatBehindTheFlask · 19/01/2022 09:50

We've found Ocado very good tbh.

They gave us a regular slot during the pandemic and have given us free gifts with some regularity since: e.g. a free Xmas slot, a free bottle of the M&S light up gin and - more recently - a free moisturiser worth £11. All adds up to feel like we get something extra back, iyswim.

The food is generally good quality. Surprisingly, the most disappointing things have all been the M&S new stock where they expanded their range or cut quality to match old prices. I tend to avoid M&S own brand things now, unless I know they are older products lines with the quality maintained. Ocado own stuff seems pretty good, for the most part.

The app is, by far, the best and the most convenient to use (except the multiple steps to check out every time which is a pita).

Agree about prices, though. If they keep going up as predicted, along with everything else, this year is going to get expensive, quickly.

WimpoleHat · 19/01/2022 09:57

I have a pass with Ocado and Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s are pretty good, I’ve found - not quite as wide a range in some areas, but have a decent selection and availability. Plus - you can order actual numbers of fruit/veg as well as weight; with Ocado you have to have a bagful even if you only want one.

Floydthebarber · 19/01/2022 10:01

Ooo, me too. I think I joined ocado about 12 plus years ago. Happy with the monthly smartpass as I do get a delivery every week. The prices are going up but the choice of items has reduced. The M&S stuff quality isn't always worth the higher price and I went in my local one last week to find things in there that were not on ocado.

It just doesn't seem paying more for anymore.

JustWonderingIfYou · 19/01/2022 10:13

Honestly you won't find one that compares with ocado. For range of products and for not too many subs/ long best before dates etc.

Morrisons used to be ok when they had their deal with ocado now they are back to picking in store the amount of subs is ridiculous.

loopylindi · 19/01/2022 10:13

I've been with Sainsburys or years and in the main they've been good (apart from a few issues with damaged apples) I don't get too many subs and when they do arrive they're generally acceptable. Even since the pandemic started I have been able to get a delivery slot. The quality of the food is generally good, delivery prompt and drivers generally helpful ( I am disabled) The range of ready meals is rather limited (compared to MandS)

cutebutscary · 19/01/2022 10:14

I have found Amazon fresh to be amazing. Great expiry dates and considerate delivery. I took the risk of ordering all of my Christmas food from them too ( yes even the turkey ) and it was bloody fantastic .

Sirzy · 19/01/2022 10:14

I use both Tesco and Asda and have no issues. Only issue with Tesco is having to phone if something is missing or damaged

user1471523870 · 19/01/2022 10:25

I tried Waitrose and Sainsburys but then went back to Ocado. I am quite happy with them:

  • I have a delivery pass and get the same slot automatically booked every week
  • I rarely have substitutions
  • I find their customer service great. In the rare event I found an item damaged I just requested the refund on their website. Their website crashed on me twice and their customer service just placed the order for me in seconds.
  • Even if I preferred when they stocked Waitrose products, I am ok with the range they offer now. Even happier they have their own brand products, that are comparable to Aldi/Lidl in prices.
  • I prefer their website to any other in terms of usability, filters, way products are presented etc
bilbodog · 19/01/2022 10:37

Ive used waitrose for years and very happy with them. There are no delivery charges? You just have to spend at least £60.

Just need to be organised in terms of ordering to get the dates and times you want - i always have 2 orders booked (only order every other week). Book my christmas slot as soon as they are released in early october.

swampytiggaa · 19/01/2022 10:58

I use Tesco. Rarely get subs but when I do I only have to pay for the cheaper option iyswim. I pay for my delivery pass using Clubcard vouchers and can book 4 weeks in advance.

I actually work for Morrisons home delivery 😂😂 but it would be weird to risk doing my own shopping after all these years 😂😂

Husband works for Tesco so I get discount from both shops 😊

IpanemaPeaHen · 19/01/2022 11:04

I use Waitrose but less often than I used to. Waitrose delivery is £3 in my area.

I still use Ocado once a month because they stock the sanitary towels my teens prefer and I like some of the Ocado groceries.

Also dh now walks to our local Asda to top up fresh stuff (and for exercise) so we are getting less grocery deliveries in general.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 19/01/2022 11:04

I was very much a Waitrose shopper but in March 2020 I couldn’t get a slot for months so I switched. I’m currently with Asda and I cannot fault them. The customer service is impressive. I tend to buy branded items like Heinz etc but meat is all good. I really can’t understand the snobbishness over supermarkets. Why pay more for the neighbours to see a posh truck? Our tesco is terrible locally for customer service so I avoid that one, but I’m sure there are well managed branches.

TimmyNook · 19/01/2022 11:08

The only online service I've been impressed with is Iceland. Free next day delivery if you spend over £40. Always have free slots. Never had delivery's cancelled, missing items etc. The only problem is they don't have a lot of choice and I only use it for a big freezer shop. I still go to our local supermarket for my weekly shop.
