I just asked Alexa to "Go down....two....volumes" and then started laughing at myself! Alexa, not unreasonably, said "Hmmm...I'm sorry..." :o

I had a friend years ago who couldnt get the word she was looking for and said she was looking to buy "you know... you hang stuff up on it.....a coat.....tree?" She meant a hat stand!

@MilesJuppIsMyBitch

Grin

I'm a fellow word-loser. Also appliance-confuser. I tell the kids to put their plates in the washing machine at least once a week.

Also, if I'm doing something fiddly like trying to untie a knot, I have to shut my eyes, or I can't do it.

Ha I read this and thought…. But they do go in the washing machine?! 😂 clearly, I am another who confuses the washing machine and dish washer.

I have also been known to refer to the toaster as the bread warmer!

The Clicky Make Fire reminded me of one!

A colleague was going out for a cigarette and for the life of him couldnt get the word "lighter" out of his mouth. In the end he asked for a "Pocket......Dragon" :o

Needless to say that it has stuck, which is fine for those in the know but you look a proper twerp 99% of the time!

I rang the optician for my DC - said my DC needs to see you about - "those little things you put in your eyes" - I really meant to say contact lenses - but my brain went dead.

My OH had a mind blank when trying to remember the name of a bird, so now whenever I see a heron I say "look, a big fishy bird".

The scary thing is that I knew what he meant.

DH does this all the time , explains it's because he thinks in pictures. Often he just says whatitsname or thingamajig but sometimes we get e.g the thing I keep my socks in for drawer.

@ThinWomansBrain

i'm not sure why, but I keep finding stairs really difficult if i'm waering a mask.
Yes!!
ThinWomansBrain · 20/01/2022 08:47

glad it's not just me! I'm so slow and unsteady on stairs if i have a mask on, it makes me feel positively ancient.

and as for the brain fog...

I had a great example this morning, but such is the state of my brain I can't remember what it was any more.

And then I went and posted this on an entirely different thread and had to report myself to MNHQ.

I’ll make excuses for myself because I’m sick with COVID but my son went and sat down in his little snack chair and said “I hungry” so I went to the kitchen and opened up the… cat food cupboard.
Paused for a second and thought, “wait, that’s not right”. 😂

Then went to the “baby snacks” cupboard instead.

Migraine-brain this morning. I forgot how to use the boiling water tap and stood there watching cold water stream into my mug for far too long.

And then I put the butter away in the oven. Thankfully it wasn't on.
