To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

@Pikaso

What joke??? It wasn’t a joke! The calorie contents were the same!! That was a fact!
Well you are right about that. But OWL noises? Confused
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 18/01/2022 13:30

@Pikaso

I wasn’t saying cuckoo. It was literally a gentle “coooo coooo … “ just to break her train of thought
Every time you post it sounds even more weird.

Do you do this a lot?

How do people generally react?

enjoyingscience · 18/01/2022 13:30

Owl noises aside, I get where you’re coming from.

Diets are not magic spells which have to be incanted in a certain way to work, and her attitude is one of the many reasons diet plans cause people to pile on all the weight they lost - they stop doing the magic spell and revert to exactly how they at when they became overweight, with inevitable consequences.

However, all diet yogurt is disgusting, so YABU for that.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/01/2022 13:30

You’re rude And I would also ignore you from now on/who does that as a grown up?

WorryMcGee · 18/01/2022 13:30

Owl noises 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fraine · 18/01/2022 13:31

Is this one of them Sharon threads?

MrsTrumpton · 18/01/2022 13:31

@Pikaso

What joke??? It wasn’t a joke! The calorie contents were the same!! That was a fact!
But you brought in the Asda pot to show her up for being an idiot, therefore making her the joke.

Don't get me wrong, I think SW is ridiculous too, but your approach was mean spirited. Did other colleagues witness it?

Sebastianthecoo · 18/01/2022 13:31

Given that you included the owl noises in the OP did you think this was something people did during arguments? Do they? Did your eyes go wide as well.

I really need more owl info, please and thanks.

Gooseberrypies · 18/01/2022 13:31

Muller lights aren’t even ‘free’ or whatever on SW anymore so I really doubt this happened how you’ve described it. Owl noises?? Grow up

ParkingDiagram · 18/01/2022 13:31

Ah. Another attempt to get nominated for classics by posting something weird.

sillysmiles · 18/01/2022 13:32

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

She’s an intelligent person, I couldn’t believe she was so brainwashed to think that the brand mattered!

As opposed to the intelligent person speaking in owl?

^^

This Grin

Some people join programs like SW or WW because the world of calories and fats etc makes them feel confused and belittled. SW/WW's "trick" is that it simplifies it.

It's perfectly possible to have a conversation with her to say, well I think the muller thing is a bit of a marketing gimmick - but this one has the small fats, calories etc.
Making little of her - YABU

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/01/2022 13:32

Did you swallow the yoghurt pot whole and then disgorge the packaging in pellet form?

Is this you leaving the office?

Bowwowwowoh · 18/01/2022 13:32

I thought owls screeched rather than coo'd?!

Anyway, @Pikaso I understand how you felt frustrated, but there are just some battles better off left. It would have been nice to support her and for her to feel supported by you, even if it does mean you biting your tongue.

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:32

People normally just stop talking

@saturdayhelicopter

Well this thread is a hoot.
🤣
HoppingPavlova · 18/01/2022 13:33

I couldn’t get a word in edgeways so I did owl noises to get her to take a breath so I could speak

What a unique strategyConfused. Did you learn this on a course or it just came to you one day?

Another who agrees we really need sound files here as it sounds more pigeon like than owl.

You were not unreasonable to tell her she was being irrational about the yoghurt but the whole pigeon/owl thing is fucking baffling.

Thebig3 · 18/01/2022 13:33

You point out that the calories are the main thing to be concerned with...therefore why the hell are you doing slimming World in the first place. Just stop and make sure you're in a calorie deficit.

Slimming world and things similar are just there to make money off your misery!

Owl noises though!?!?!

ivykaty44 · 18/01/2022 13:33

How was I rude??

twit twoo into someones face is rude, making owl noses is calling someone a twit - its unpleasant

MabelsApron · 18/01/2022 13:33

Does anyone remember Green Wing? There's a sketch in there about the noises birds make. Alan Statham does a weird impression of a chaffinch. I'm sort of imagining that, but with yoghurt.

Either way, not sure you can object to the irrationality of Slimming World cultisms if you habitually make bird noises at people. People in glass houses etc.

SnowDropMania · 18/01/2022 13:33

The "you must eat muller lights on slimming world" is a mumsnet myth

MrsTrumpton · 18/01/2022 13:34

Plus, I thought "coo-coo" is the noise pigeons make?! Or were you trying to say "cuckoo" to illustrate her madness but got your bird sounds muddled?

Chrissyo · 18/01/2022 13:34

@Fifilafrog

I. Can't. Breathe. 😂😂😂😂

Omg 🦉

😂😂😂 me neither 😂😂😂
Bluebluemoon39 · 18/01/2022 13:34

OP, you weren't rude. Ignore the people saying you are the devil incarnate for making cooing noises!

She sounds very silly.

BigButtons · 18/01/2022 13:34

Yeah- she is annoying and you were very rude. In the future just nod, pretend to be listening ,say nothing and get on with what ever you want to do. This sounds like an episode of the office.

zen1 · 18/01/2022 13:35

This thread is the most amusing thing I’ve read all day. I’m trying to imagine how she kept a straight face with you interrupting the conversation by cooo coooing!
