Leave 9YO reading in car

Quite often I'll nip into a shop on the way home from a day out. My son is 9 and loves reading. Recently I've been leaving him with his book while I grab the shopping with his little sister. He can be trusted to do nothing but read and it's only 10 minutes. AIBU? My other dilemma is whether to leave car locked or unlocked or locked but give him the keys. So far I've locked him in but left a window open for him.

I would do this. I'd leave it unlocked and take the keys with me but with the knowledge that he could lock from the inside

9 is usually old enough to be left on their own for a few minutes.

9?!?! Yes of course! My 9 year old will be walking home from school soon! Confused so confused by the people freaking out about this.

Blimey I wouldn't think twice. We live in a busy crime ridden part of London and my 9 year old goes to the shops for me on his own ! Or I would happily leave him alone at home for a shortft time
