to still be angry with partner over wiping my PC (accidentally!)

Last week my OH decided to 'upgrade' my PC with a factory reset as it was so slow. I did agree to this. He also got a piece of software that would supposedly save everything on my PC, documents, favourites etc. I did back up my documents to the (so-called) Cloud as a precaution (although not onto memory sticks as I usually would because I had the Cloud and the fancy software)....anyway, of course, everything totally disappeared. All my personal stuff, all my work stuff. Some work stuff I have saved in work accounts or can cobble together, but it is very time-consuming and fiddly. Other stuff totally gone (OK, maybe I had too many photos). Btw do not trust the Cloud - you have to synch it or something. He is very contrite and knows it was his fault. but it's not like he broke one thing and I can get over it. I keep thinking of things that are lost for good and am finding it hard to forgive. How long before I have to let it go?!

Sneaky question
I had to do a factory reset the other day when I thought my computer had broken completely - it's 12 years old.

I didn't realise a factory reset was considered an upgrade? Is that correct and if so, how is my computer upgraded? It just looks like.. a factory reset to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Always best to use a portable harddrive or memory stick as a precaution, I used to wipe my laptop once a month and it was easier using the portable hard drive.

I'd be pissed too, but really the blame is 50/50 I think. You made two back ups but neither of them worked? That's very unlucky - are you 100% sure? How can the cloud "not work"? You didn't check either back up?

Loveisthere · 17/01/2022 21:13

GIRAFFE lol you are nearly over it after 15 years. There you go op only a few more years to forgive him. Actually I agree with pp take it to a computer specialist and try to retrieve what they can

HelloFrostyMorning · 17/01/2022 21:28

I am sorry this happened to you, but you really were foolish to have not backed it up onto a flashdrive, or a separate hard drive. I routinely back up EVERYTHING on my laptop every month. Onto a separate hard drive.

Sorry it happened, but YABU to be angry with your DP. Lesson learned eh?

HelloFrostyMorning · 17/01/2022 21:29

Oh and a factory reset is NOT an upgrade. Does your DP actually know anything about computers @mrsmootoo ???

HelloFrostyMorning thanks
