To find baby photo shoots a bit weird ?

Just seen on fb a friend took her newborn to a photo shoot. Baby was dressed in all sorts of costumes including a bumble bee and was contorted into all sorts of positions for photos. To me a newborn baby is so beautiful without all of these weird costumes and settings. Aibu?

I hate the photo shoots where they dress the baby as an animal or flower. It's so weird and definitely not an improvement, newborns are perfect the way they are. It's also quite 90s to me, a trend started by Anne Geddes I think? But it's run its course in my opinion.

I love them. We had one done with my son as a newborn and already have one booked for our daughter who is due at the end of February.

I also had maternity photo shoots booked with both babies.

For me taking these photos is just a way to celebrate a wonderful event in our lives.

The key is to find a photographer that takes images in the style you like.

After seeing professional photos of families and babies on people's walls, I wondered if we should have them done. We couldn't afford it though so instead we held our own shoot in the bedroom. DS was more obliging as he was about 3 and easily plied with sweets! I insisted we all wore white and poor DH only had his white swimming trunks so certain parts needed photoshopping out!! Now, 5 or 6 years later, we have lost all those photos...God knows what happened to them but it was fun at the time

Dont particularly like them but have seen so many weird things in life that this doesn't faze me one bit

The heavily styled ones aren't my sort of thing but each to their own. I don't think it matters in the grand scheme of things.

I do have some slightly ridiculous ones of eldest DS though. This is going back over 20 years but Boots used to hold in store photo sessions which was generally how people used to get professional photos of their babies and toddlers. You would find out what days these events were on and go queue up.

I took DS when he was about 3 months old with the expectation of getting some nice but ordinary photos. The photographer had other ideas though and had a whole set up that resembled a french chef's picnic. Grin

I probably should just have said no but they do have a certain comedic value to them. DS in a flower pot with a french stick/sat on a red gingham rug holding a wooden spoon and wearing a mini chef hat.

DS1 also has a leaving nursery 'graduation' photo with cap and gown. Somehow he seems to have been in the right place right time for a lot of slightly naff photo trends.

The other two are just young enough for digital cameras to have become a mainstream thing so I have more photos of them but no studio shots other than playgroup/school.
