For those if you who have 20 days annual leave plus bank hols - is that enough for you or do you find yourself needing more?

@WoodenReindeer

Why dont they require 2 x as much work then? Why are they paying ft wages for something that can be done in half the time?
They are paying for the output not the time. So output of x = payment of y. Imagine if you got someone in to quote for fitting a new kitchen and they said 5k. They could take 1 week to do it or 4 weeks you would still pay 5k.
CatJumperTwat · 16/01/2022 19:18

No. Luckily my workload is very variable and I have autonomy, so there are plenty of extra days where all I do is check my email a few times.

Kitkat151 · 16/01/2022 19:24

@SquirrelG

Actually, should have said, that is standard where I live (not UK), and most people seem okay with it. Honestly, if you can't cope with the hours you work then work less hours - do you seriously think life should be one long (paid) holiday?
It’s not about the number of hours worked but the number of days to take....I like to have around 10 ( or more holidays a year) ranging from 2 nights to 2 weeks.....I couldn’t do this on 20 days AL
JaceLancs · 16/01/2022 19:29

No - I get 30 plus bank holidays - I also build up a lot of TOIL so take extra days or 1/2 days here and there

WoodenReindeer · 16/01/2022 19:29

Wow really never heard of unlimited days off and been around a number of industries. Professional extended family, friends etc. Husband worked in media and education and just not come across it!

It does show how important places like mumsnet are for extending experience as it's not in the worlds I encounter!

WoodenReindeer · 16/01/2022 19:30

Variable workload and autonmy sounds really hood to me right now!

I guess its partly why mumsnet doesn't "get" why more women dont work full time etc when they arent aware this amount of flexibility and holiday isn't the norm in a lot of circles.

Rainydays55 · 16/01/2022 19:31

For those of you that work from home does that counteract the lower holiday allowance at all?

OP posts:
gogohm · 16/01/2022 19:35

I get 25 plus bank holidays and need more

WoodenReindeer · 16/01/2022 19:36

The programmers I know (only a couple!) Have core hours/meetings and a set amount of holiday!

Livpool · 16/01/2022 19:42

I couldn't cope with that. I wfh and get 33 days plus bank holidays. Even wfh I need time away from working

ThePinkTeapot · 16/01/2022 19:44

I have 25 plus bank holidays. I very rarely use my full allowance - last year I had two days untaken that I lost.

MissAmbrosia · 16/01/2022 19:49

I have 36 plus bhs this year. In my last job I had 40. I do work a lot though.

Autismandgin · 16/01/2022 19:49

We have unlimited holiday Smile

And it’s very common in our industry (marketing, PR and digital) I’m job hunting at the moment and many of the roles have this perk

QueenofLouisiana · 16/01/2022 19:55

No, I’d find 20 days really hard.

Disclaimer: I’m a teacher so am used to longer breaks.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 16/01/2022 19:58

I have 34 days plus bank holidays and it's just about enough to keep me from the brink of a nervous breakdown. I work in a very under funded, under paid and under staffed segment of the public sector though. It's only the annual leave and the pension that make it worthwhile

lechatnoir · 16/01/2022 20:06

I get 25 + BH + 1 'free' day off at Christmas plus the option to buy an additional 5. I always book my birthday off, a day for Christmas shopping and then spread the rest over the school holidays and will use every single day of my allowance plus possibly also request a week of unpaid parental leave.

I never understand how or why people don't use their holiday Confused. It's a job and you are fully entitled to them. Even if you do nothing at all, just having a day off can be invaluable - I know I'm much more energised and productive (and a happier employee) when I have a day off.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 16/01/2022 21:31

Unlimited, I have a business, so I vary the workload.
For example 15 days off at Xmas, 10 days back working on the business, then I've just had 5 days off.
Probably total between 12-16 weeks off a yr...

Mrs HR gets 25 plus bank holidays. Rubbish.

Kiitos · 16/01/2022 21:36

No. It was a major part of my decision to become self-employed

MaryShelley1818 · 16/01/2022 21:54

Definitely not!
I get 31 days AL, all Bank Holidays, 13 Flexi Days. I work compacted hrs just under full time and don't work Mondays so get to use my BH hrs for other days. Still worrying about covering school holidays when DS starts school in September.

DramaAlpaca · 16/01/2022 22:00

No. I get 20 days plus bank hols. It's the fewest I've had in any job I've ever had and it's not enough. Luckily my children are grown up now, but it's still difficult. I love my job, but this is the one downside.

Tunnocks34 · 16/01/2022 22:03

No.

One of the only reasons I am still in teaching tbh. That and the kids.

Sunnytwobridges · 16/01/2022 22:23

Yep it would fine for me.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 16/01/2022 22:24

No it’s not I worked somewhere once that was 28 days including bank holiday and they shut down for Christmas so 3 days for that and the holiday year ran April to March so if Easter was April one year then the following was March then that was included in the annual year so less bh and the 3 days at Christmas it was 15 days left for the year . Shit company !!

Cherryonthetop2019 · 16/01/2022 22:26

No I get 25 days plus bank holidays and from 24th December off to first working day in January plus an occasional day on top. I wouldn’t take a job on 20 days anymore. It’s the statutory minimum and it tends to mean other benefits are also lacking.

DamnFoolWhoShotHim · 16/01/2022 22:26

I get 28 and don't find it enough, can't imagine how 20 would be enough
