My husband got the baby up, ready and took him a walk today so I could have a lie in (He's dressed him in his pyjamas but it's the thought that counts 😂)

What are the nicest things people do for you that make a difference?

Cook my tea for when I get back from the gym.

liliainterfrutices · 17/01/2022 21:37

When my husband was in hospital for 5 weeks awaiting open heart surgery, my best friend sent me a luxury parcel every week - a mix of flowers, chocolates, a scarf, a scented candle and bath goodies. I am so lucky.

Tickles my back every night till I fall asleep without complaint. And if he knows I'm not well or I'm really tired he does it without me having to ask.

MrsPotatoHead22 · 17/01/2022 21:44

My DH puts my electric tooth brush on charge. Grin

Whenever I visit my elderly parents, wearing my leather boots, my dad always polishes them for me. He used to do it when I lived at home, and I find it to be such a sweet gesture.
My dad always used to clean my glasses 🥰
RockinHorseShit · 17/01/2022 21:49

DH does so much, I've really felt it this week when he's quarantined in our room alone & it's now my job to get up into a cold house, put the heating on & make coffee. That alone makes him a keeper, let alone all the recycling, bins, cat litter, cleaning up cat puke from gannet cat, & other stuff he just gets on with

Countrydiary · 17/01/2022 21:50

I love it when my husband makes me a cup of tea and defrosts the car as others have mentioned. Also for my birthday this year my MIL made me a birthday cake, she’s not the most effusive woman but my own Mum is really not at all well so I know that was MIL’s way of showing I’m cared about!

DH has done every night wake with me since DD was born. I appreciate that a lot.
Also not to lower the tone of the thread but he is very giving in the bedroom without going into further details. I also appreciate that, as I can struggle to get out of my head on a stressful day and he knows physical intimacy is important to me.

  • My mum made us food for 3 weeks when DD was born, and was a silent supporter of me breastfeeding despite it maybe being upsetting for her as she really wanted to bf but couldn't due to poor/abusive family support and lack of advice and knowledge.
  • My Dad will do really fiddly and mind-intensive tasks for us as he loves a challenge. Love that, as we often cba with a young child.
  • My sister is so thoughtful, and always gets DD the perfect thought out gift. She is also very affectionate with her and plays silly games and that is nice; to have a mental break while someone else entertains
weegiemum · 17/01/2022 22:08

Dh always has "emergency wine"! Just in case.

He buys me flowers - appropriate to the season. We're just leaving Ornamental Cabbage season and waiting for Daffodil Season.

Every morning he gets up to go to work and feeds the dog and takes him out for a pee(and he hates the dog) then brings dog up to sleep at the end of the bed until I get up (I'm disabled and my meds make me sleep till mid morning) and leaves a Diet Coke on the bedside table!

When I finally stagger downstairs, ds (19) appears if he's not working (he's a home carer) and makes us both a coffee and sits and chats while we drink it. It's the highlight of the day sometimes!

This made me cry. My lovely dad also used to do this when I lived there and later when I came home to stay. I never asked, he just did it.

Also when I lived there or came to stay he would always pick a rose or other flower from his little garden and put it in a tiny vase on the windowsill of my bedroom.

Back when we had live TV and a Tivo type box, my husband used to randomly record things he noticed in the guide that he thought I might like.

coronafiona · 17/01/2022 22:50

My 4 yo bought me a present with her tooth fairy money. It was a long time ago and I still could cry at the kindness of it- she had nothing of her own but she found a way to buy me something. She is lovely.

Minniem2020 · 17/01/2022 22:59

I work from home but am very much tied to my desk outside of allocated break times. DD15 bring me a cup of tea and biscuits every day when she gets in from school.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 17/01/2022 23:03

Most of them are by people online. An appreciation post, a drawing for my birthday or Christmas. But also DS 10 will often do little things to help because I'm tired, or give me a cuddle when I'm stressed.

doodleygirl · 17/01/2022 23:05

DH always defrosts my car in the morning, he makes sure it’s toasty for me Smile He also regularly does all the Saturday morning chores so I can lie in. He is a very kind man.

JoyOrbison · 17/01/2022 23:06

My dad used to polish my shoes!

In winter he would walk to our house to get snow iff the rrive... I think he just wantrd to keep busy!

My manager brings in a Costa if the other colleague isnt in to pep me up for a busy day.

My dh took one of my favourite photos of my dad, about 30 years old and photoshopped it ever so carefully at work so it looked much better, less faded, blurred parts he had redesigned, it was fab and is sat in a lovely frame.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 17/01/2022 23:09

My boss gave me flowers on my first fathers day after my dad had died. I'd only worked there for three months

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 17/01/2022 23:10

My husband brings me tea in bed every morning and I love it! Just a simple thing but so caring. Also if he is putting clean washing away he will leave a pair of fresh pyjamas on the bed for me which is lovely!

Sheabutterisdelish · 17/01/2022 23:54

Tea in the morning for each other or when we get in is lovely.

Dacquoise · 18/01/2022 00:28

DP puts my side of the electric blanket on if he goes to bed first. It's so lovely getting into a toasty bed on a freezing cold night.

Westmeathtip · 18/01/2022 00:33

I’ve got an uncharacteristic gob on with my Chap which I think is mostly hormones. But on reflection he defrosts my car, makes me tea in the morning, cooks loads and came over with a huge curry in a pot, in a bag, still hot for the oven.

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/01/2022 00:38

I was texting a friend and mentioned that I felt a bit stressed.

The next day she turned up with a fillet steak, pre.cut and seasoned tomato and a stuffed mushroom with directions from how to cook it.

She had also made up a little cheeseboard with crackers, grapes and chutney.

She had made me some fairy cakes and also provided miniatures to make a gin and tonic.

I am very lucky to have a friend like that.

coodawoodashooda · 18/01/2022 01:06

@BadgeronaMoped

Cups of tea Smile every single one is so appreciated.
Me too.
Annonnimoouse42 · 18/01/2022 01:21

I'm chronically ill, spend long weeks in dark room due to migraine. DH does everything when I can't. Childcare, cleaning, cooking, looks after pets and brings me countless cups of tea. He truly is wonderful

sobercuriouskind · 18/01/2022 01:28

My DM pays for my cleaner. She knows I find life hard and this is a way she can help me with that.
My DH always offers to make me breakfast in bed and if I mention a book I am interested in, he will make sure he buys it for me.
When I walked 100 miles of a local trail with my Dad, he made me a really thoughtful photo book to keep as a momento.
My DD and DS are so kind and thoughtful, they write beautiful words in cards and always cuddle me when I'm upset. They say they love me every day.
