Selfish people on trains

The bloke in the seat opposite me is playing Gimme Gimme Gimme for the 4th time in a row on his phone, really loudly 😱🙄.

What bugs you on trains?

People loudly talking on the phones or otherwise in the quiet carriage.

People who eat smelly food, especially if they eat it noisily.

Loud earphones.

People who don't move over on crowded trains to allow other passengers to sit next to them.

KatherineJaneway · 16/01/2022 07:52

@Beamur

People travelling at busy times who put bags on the seat next to them and then eyeroll you when you tell them to move it out of the way...
I won't do this when the train is busy but I do when it is quiet. To many people come and sit right next to you when there are lots of free seats. Same people who park next to you in a non-busy car park or pick the treadmill next to you when no others are in use I suspect.

Similar - people who listen to anything on their phone without headphones

Someone already mentioned nail trimming. Shaving I find really grim too.

Luggage in the wheelchair space

I ask nicely twice and 3rd time I should rather loudly 2 choices
One your luggage is about to meet 150kg of powerchair

Option two I remove your luggage and it be going out the door

@Noodledoodledoo

People passively aggressively talking about you in ear shot about how rude I was to sit down in the last spare seat when I could see their travelling companion was obviously pregnant, said from someone sitting down and not offering said pregnant lady a seat.

My response was to zip up my coat which then showed my 'bump on board' badge! She still didn't get up to offer her seat!!

I got moaned at for sitting in a priority seat by a pregnant woman despite my crutches being by my side.

@HarlanPepper

Women putting make up on is the only 'offence' here that I don't agree with. Why is it such a problem? Every other annoying thing people mention is loud or smelly or physically intrusive. Someone putting on their make up is none of these things. Just don't look if it bothers you! I don't wear make up myself so it's not even like I'm being defensive.
Wasn't my comment but I do agree there's a pretty high ick factor with someone putting on makeup especially those eye pen things.

I'm a former commuter, used to get the 5.55am or 6.12am and sit in the quiet coach. I can't deal with people on trains at the best of times, especially not at that early.

The make up used to annoy me, because of the noise and constant moving around of arms. I've been elbowed, I've had blush, bronzer and powder particles on my clothing. Eyebrows have been tweezed and nails filed. The clacking of products as someone rummaged through their make up bag for the next item and the opening/closing sounds. Some products have a smell. Same for nail painting which was also a frequent occurrence. The majority was nearly always a full face, and applied for their whole journey.

@anotherusernameugh

People who sit in the priority seating, even when a pregnant person is standing right in front of them.
People who don't realise only women can be pregnant.
stepmad · 16/01/2022 09:36

People eating smelly food
Bags on seats
Very loud phone calls especially at the end of the week saying they have just got on the train and will be home at such and such a time
People asking me if the toliet is free as if I sit and keep tabs
Feet on seats

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/01/2022 09:50

I'll trade you ABBA Man for the young man who sat on the back seat (bus) along from me with his feet on the seat playing a song that included the lyrics N*s and B*s
Luckily some Mums and primary childen got on so he switched song.

I did glare at him (not that he noticed)

With the GimmeGimmeGimme you should've ploughed right in there

Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show .................

He'd have switched off before you got to Moooooovie stars

Wink
lucillelarusso · 16/01/2022 09:52

I would be singing
"Gimme gimme gimme a quiet train carriage,
someone come and save me from this selfish man"
and doing a little dance. With finger clicking. In his face.

sleaf · 16/01/2022 10:49

Why do women put full make up on the train? I could understand a bit of lipstick or stick blusher, but foundation and eye makeup is hard enough to apply at the best of times and needs a steady hand Confused
