Selfish people on trains

Usernamqwerty · 14/01/2022 18:24

The bloke in the seat opposite me is playing Gimme Gimme Gimme for the 4th time in a row on his phone, really loudly 😱🙄.

What bugs you on trains?

On a packed train, the woman next to me was varnishing her nails (not toenails thank goodness!) the smell lingered for ages.

iklboo · 14/01/2022 20:55

People saying pregnant people

That too and people shovelling on the make up
Muststopeating · 14/01/2022 21:15

I hate absolutely everything about public transport!

Who decides which pregnant woman does and does not need the seat? They should always be offered.

I get that SOME of the people sitting in the priority seats with no outwardly obvious reason for doing so have their own reasons for needing those seats but I am fecking sure they all don't.

And those of you who need them should be just as pissed off by the pisstakers.

TrainspottingWelsh · 14/01/2022 21:17

People encroaching on your space. Man spreading, bag spreading, coat spreading, spreading waist, whatever. Not my problem, if you don't fit in your seat you can hang off the far side, you aren't entitled to share mine. Fuck off.

Phones on speaker/ face time. No Caitlin, nobody but you cares about the saga of your friends love life, put the phone to your ear, not your chin, or put it the fuck away.

Shit parenting. I won't judge you for what your kids do because I don't know the full circumstances. But if your dc are being annoying and you sit there with a proud indulgent smile, or worse look around smugly under the illusion we're all impressed by your little cherub, then you can fuck off.

People sitting in your reserved seats and instead of moving, attempting to guilt trip you into giving them up. Fuck off and ask someone in unreserved seating to stand.

People, mainly older or pregnant addressing an individual, in a priority seat under the assumption they are being lazy and can't possibly need it. If you need a seat, address everyone, don't direct your comments towards whichever person you have decided on appearance alone is less deserving. And if you do, don't be surprised or offended when you are left looking a fool.

Grida · 14/01/2022 21:18

@DillDanding

Where do I start?

People talking on the phone with the phone on speaker mode.

People playing their music without headphones.

People putting their feet on seats.

Manspreading.

Women putting on their full face of make up.

Halitosis on a crowded tube.

Why does the make up thing annoy you? I have never done it but can’t see why it would annoy anyone as it isn’t noisy or smelly and doesn’t shed bodily fluids. I know it annoys people but I’m mystified as to why.
elelel · 14/01/2022 21:22

My point re pregnant women was why did that poster think a pregnant woman should be offered the priority seat, rather than any other seat.

Broads93 · 14/01/2022 21:23

People who try to sit next to you even though there's plenty of free rows

Sexnotgender · 14/01/2022 21:25

@iklboo

People saying pregnant people
Yup, it’s insidious.
DdraigGoch · 14/01/2022 21:27

I did hear of a man who was so indiscrete with his phone calls that a passenger a few seats away phoned him up and pretended to be the PA of whoever he was supposed to be meeting. Told him the meeting was being postponed by an hour.

Wafflesnsniffles · 14/01/2022 22:55

Lots of options here but my greatest irritation is noise of an unnecessary sort.
People who dont seem to understand their conversation is off no interest to anyone else.
People talking loudly on phones.
People who dont appear to own a pair of headphones.
People who dont know how to stop their phone from clicking everytime their tap the keyboard.

People who use their screen as a baby sitter for their kid......... and keep the volume on.

So inconsiderate.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/01/2022 22:59

People making a lot of noise that can easily be helped - business men (usually men) talking loudly on phones, all other people talking loudly on phones or to those who are with them, music played outloud, Tv and films played outloud, drunk people obviously, performance parents, loads of other loud people

People eating smelly food

People who sit next to you and don’t confine themselves to their own seat - man spreaders mainly but also people of both sexes with bags. All seats should have a rigid division between them that can’t be moved.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/01/2022 23:01

Women putting on their full face of make up.

Cannot see why this is a problem. Unless you elbow barge the person beside you or spill something on them (which granted is a problem) how does it affect anyone else?

FreedomFaith · 14/01/2022 23:02

@paulthebear

People cutting their toenails
Who are these freaks?!
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/01/2022 23:10

Also, people who say things like “I’m pregnant not disabled.” People don’t need any more excuses not to offer seats to pregnant women, and most do need to sit more than the average person (albeit not usually as much as some other groups, such as those with physical or some other disabilities).

You can say “no thank you, I actually prefer standing”.

People who use the fact that one pregnant woman once declined the offer of a seat to never offer again as “it might be patronising”. It’s not. It’s polite.

thenewduchessoflapland · 14/01/2022 23:15

People who sit in reserved seats (and the sign next to the seat says reserved) and then refuse to move when the people/person who's supposed to be seating there turn up;it's especially ignorant when the train is quite full.

grapewine · 14/01/2022 23:17

@DdraigGoch

I work on trains. These are all things which irritate me. I am however in a position to do something about them:

"Can you put some headphones in, please? The other passengers do not wish to listen to your music/Peppa Pig"

"You don't have any headphones? Then kindly turn the sound off"

"Feet off the seats, please"

"We are busy today; please remove bags from seats, or they will be charged a child's ticket"

"Please put that mask on properly"

"Can someone please vacate a priority seat so that this lady can sit down?"

"Please moderate your language"

"Put that fag out!" (I once chucked a pervy man off at 1am for lighting up. It was in January)

"Please put a shirt on while sitting on the upholstery"

And my all-time favourite:

"If you don't have money to purchase a ticket then I suggest that you walk. Now please step off the train"

I'm ruthless where anti-social behaviour is concerned.

You're my hero for all of this. I wish the train staff was like that where I am.

I loathe people blasting their music without headphones or them speaking on the phone or Facetiming. People don't want to fucking hear you talking to your mate. Pipe down.

Larryyourwaiter · 14/01/2022 23:21

People who sit next to you when the train is virtually empty. And then seem pissed when you move away from them. I don’t miss commuting.

Chimley · 14/01/2022 23:26

Music
Sitting in reserved seats and refusing to move when the person gets on (yes that's the lady who told her getting up teenage daughter to stay because they were getting off at the next stop. I persisted and the teenager moved. At least the mother looked shamed when I removed my coat to show my 8 months bump. And I had pelvic girdle pain so definitely needed my seat)

And a funny one. People who don't talk loudly enough or have their phone volume up enough when there are salacious goings on! Someone was properly for it and there were conversations with multiple people about what would happen if he did x or y but I never got to the bottom of what he'd already done to put everyone onto him!

Rubyglitter · 15/01/2022 00:07

Loud music - so loud that I can hear it coming out of their earphones! And strong smelling food. And drunks.

I must have read this 10 times and I still have absolutely no idea what it means

oviraptor21 · 15/01/2022 00:32

@Usernamqwerty

I couldn't believe it... 30 seconds before I get off the train, he finally switches to Voulez Vouz after 40 effing minutes straight of Gimme Gimme Gimme. I would have moved, but packed commuter train 😬
Maybe he's studying it for something? I'd like to say he's learning the lyrics but that shouldn't take more than a couple of plays!
Rubyyyy · 15/01/2022 00:42

I recently had one.
Parents who put hickory dickory dock on maximum volume on their tablet for their kids and repeat it over and over and over again.

No problem with kids watching videos but why so loud? The joke was the dad turned it down when HE received a phone call as it was so loud then turned it back up when he finished!
That was a very stressful 45min train journey I wanted to go deaf.

What dont you understand? It is pretty clear.

The poster likes hearing gossip. Someone was making phone calls and talking about a man who had done something and would be getting it if he did more stuff. But because the person was talking quietly, the poster couldnt hear what he had been up to so missed out on gossip of strangers.

elelel · 15/01/2022 00:51

What dont you understand? It is pretty clear.

I didn't understand any of it. So it wasn't 'pretty clear' to me.

Thanks for explaining. I guess 'for it' and 'getting it' mean beat up?
