EXCLUSIVE

"Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone.

Staff drank and at points danced until the early hours of the night of April 16.

Hours later, the Queen went to a socially-distanced funeral for Philip.

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

🥂Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

🥂One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

🥂Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

🍻 Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

🍻Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

🍻Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

At the time Britain was in Step 2 of lockdown easing - which banned indoor gatherings and imposed the rule of six outside.

But the celebrations in No10 meant around 30 people were gathered for what a source declares were definitely parties.

Can No10 claim they were work events?

This was the scene in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle the next day.

Prince Philip’s funeral was restricted to 30 people, and the PM declined to attend, to make more space for family.

The Queen did not participate in the service. "

I haven't written to my mp. She is a career politician who has already voted against the government. I suspect she will be distancing herself without any need for me to write to her. I'm not sure if her motives are survival or doing the right thing but I suspect she wouldn't tell me that anyway.
I will write when her email box is a bit emptier.

DGRossetti · 15/01/2022 10:26

I wonder if anyone charged with breaking lockdown could opt for a jury trial.

I'll be honest at this point, I would refuse to convict simply because there is no natural justice in allowing a law to be applied if it isn't applied equally.

You could call it "conscience" ? Maybe if enough people started using this new word, it could appear in the dictionary ? I think I'll email Suzie Dent ands see what she thinks.

DGRossetti · 15/01/2022 10:30

Incidentally, if people do want to write to their MP - for any reason - I'd advise using www.writetothem.com/ It locates your MP, and then logs the email, and asks you in a few weeks if they replied and what use they were. All of which goes towards holding them to account that tiny bit more.

We can see from the current hot topics that not many people have a clue what their MPs track record may have been before they voted. WE can only hope they are a little more careful next time. Obviously if you didn't vote you can get stuffed.

Why not write now though? It's the sheer number of emails that will make even the most supportive of Boris realise that their constituents are concerned.
itsgettingweird · 15/01/2022 10:40

Janiie I appreciate you may have difficulties making your own mind up about things and how you view them.

But please do t tar the rest of us with the same inability because we have different viewpoints. I don't need the media or anyone to help me form an opinion.

It's fine if you need a civil servants enquiry to help you do so.

DGRossetti · 15/01/2022 10:48

I doubt MPs will see any emails.

But their staff will. And that's where the kindling is.

It only dawned on me yesterday, but I heard a brief interview with Graham Brady chair of 1922 committee not that long before Xmas. Now I recall the content he was basically telegraphing how MPs can "send him a letter" ... making the point that an email/SMS/Whatsapp would do, and that it would be perfectly normal for an MP to lodge a letter but later recall it without anyone ever knowing.

I wonder if there are any MPs who have - outside their staff - slipped a letter to the good gentleman ? And now I recall the drift of the interview, I wonder how many letter he was sent before Christmas that haven't been recalled ?

All of which being said .. we can all be sure that when Boris goes, he is going to take all the sins of the party with him, so his successor can be "clean hands".

Which will be interesting given how many parties there were - is there any potential leader who wasn't at one ?

There's also the Brexit question (funny, I thought it was done ?). Will there be an existential requirement that Boris replacement is a dyed in the wool Brexiteer ? Because that's a bit like having to choose a one legged man for your next hurdles event.

littledrummergirl · 15/01/2022 11:06

I've written to my mp a number of times on the issue of government incompetence and have always received a personal reply. Some I have agreed with, some I have challenged. I have also thanked her for voting the way I have asked her to.
She is aware of my opinion of her boss already.

Marchitectmummy
" K Starmer isn't guilt free."

The very grainy photo of Starmer having a beer with 5 other work colleagues was taken in April 2021, after restrictions had been eased. The date is on the image. It's a non-story and the photo has been kept back when something would break re Downing St Parties. False equivalence. It's hardly the same as the mass piss ups that the Tories were involved in.

Roussette · 15/01/2022 11:41

Exactly. I'm more than happy if Sue Gray investigates Keir Starmer. The fact it hasn't been mentioned as happening tells us all we need to know. And trying to make out the two parties are the same with this is quite frankly, laughable. And desperate!

How is that relevant? You are clutching at straws cut'n'pastanova.

Clavinova · 15/01/2022 12:50

Roussette
If anyone wants a copy of my email to mine, drop me a PM. It was a masterpiece lol

You've been rumbled already Grin

Michael Fabricant 🇬🇧
I have had 31 identical emails from different people calling for Boris to resign and about 20 more from constituents with the same call but in their own words. Far fewer than most campaigns and that’s out of 76,000+ voters.
Nevertheless I read all letters/emails carefully.

Roussette · 15/01/2022 12:57

Clavinova

Haha... doubtful ! Especially as I didn't call for Johnson to resign! I'm in two minds about him going because of the alternatives which are pretty 'orrible.

Does anyone actually listen to Fabricant? I'm amazed! Grin

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2022 13:06

It's not just Michael Fabricant in support of the PM ( he was on lbc again this morning) it's also Brandon Lewis who was quoted in the Guardian last week ( paraphrasing here ) ..
' Boris Johnson will lead us into the next election and win it with a big majority '
Hardly the bigger names , but it's still support.

DGRossetti · 15/01/2022 13:28

"Operation Big Dog" ?

Presumably reflecting the job of owners to scoop uf the turds their shaggy beasts leave behind ?

Or just a tacit admission things are Sirius ?

(I'll get my coat).

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 15/01/2022 13:47

@DGRossetti 😁

There's a 38 degrees campaign to write personal letters to Sir Graham Brady. Logic seems to be he'll have to decide what to do with the mp letters. Not convinced myself, surely it's a matter of if he receives enough letters he triggers the vote? But for the price of a stamp I'm happy to do what I can.

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2022 13:55

It should be ' Operation save my bollocks'

TooBigForMyBoots · 15/01/2022 14:00

Operation Save Big Dog.
😂😂😂

justasking111 · 15/01/2022 14:07

Gawd no. If anyone needed gelding 🤣🤣
SueSaid · 15/01/2022 14:54

'And trying to make out the two parties are the same with this is quite frankly, laughable. And desperate!'

I'm not desperate at all, just pointing out the inconvenient truth that there seems to be blurred lines regarding what was allowed regarding work and consuming alcohol with colleagues.

Twitter tends to be full of pitchfork wavers generally but even there there are quite a lot of people who can see quite clearly what the media are playing at.

Roussette · 15/01/2022 15:01

Gosh. It's pitchfork wavers now is it?! Grin

And we're all so thick we're taken in by any old media report. I presume you don't want any reporting on any of this, it's rather inconvenient isn't it.....

SueSaid · 15/01/2022 15:05

'Gosh. It's pitchfork wavers now is it?'

I was talking about Twitter?

SueSaid · 15/01/2022 15:07

' I presume you don't want any reporting on any of this, it's rather inconvenient isn't it.....'

Yes of course I do but I prefer facts and evidence and as I seem to need to keep on saying if Labour were having booze and mingling roo then perhaps the rules regarding work place drinking weren't clear?

Roussette · 15/01/2022 15:10

Yawn.

One bottle of beer socially distanced with 3 others VERSUS
party invites for 100 bring your own booze, wine fridges, hot and cold buffets, suitcases loaded with booze, Wine Fridays rubberstamped by BJ, apologies to the Queen etc.

Not sure how many times this has been said
Investigate Starmer by all means. Unfortunately Sue Grey is pretty busy with 13 parties at the moment...

SueSaid · 15/01/2022 15:18

'One bottle of beer socially distanced with 3 others '

Oh no no no. There are people eating in the opened doorway! indoors Shock not even outdoors where risk is lower as we should all know. Plus the fact Johnson's 3 person zoom quiz was labelled a 'party' you see.

If booze was ok at work, fine. If it wasn't then Starmer should stfu. He is a hypocrite.
