EXCLUSIVE

"Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone.

Staff drank and at points danced until the early hours of the night of April 16.

Hours later, the Queen went to a socially-distanced funeral for Philip.

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

🥂Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

🥂One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

🥂Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

🍻 Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

🍻Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

🍻Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

At the time Britain was in Step 2 of lockdown easing - which banned indoor gatherings and imposed the rule of six outside.

But the celebrations in No10 meant around 30 people were gathered for what a source declares were definitely parties.

Can No10 claim they were work events?

This was the scene in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle the next day.

Prince Philip’s funeral was restricted to 30 people, and the PM declined to attend, to make more space for family.

The Queen did not participate in the service. "

@lorca

And ofc we should be asking - what did they know then? Did they know that the 'climate of FEAR' that they had instilled - was all crap? That the pandemic was just a massive business opportunity for some?

The pandemic was/is a very convenient smokescreen for their Brexit cock-ups, that's for sure.

Party? Sure, why not? We'll be ok. WE don't need the NHS for our care, (we've got Private!) and oh look, we can get scared people to go into private Healthcare, saving the NHS in that way! We don't need to invest in the NHS (that we've been trying to privatise since the GE) - we'll get the public to STOP GOING OUT! STOP MEETING EACH OTHER!

Flatten the curve, give the NHS a clap on Thursdays, and a miserly 1% payrise at the end of this.

But don't invest in the Staff, or the buildings or the infrastructure.

Scare the public into fucking staying home instead.

Integrity is doing the right thing even when no ones watching. I agree there was a lack of integrity.

However I don’t think this lapse warrants resignation. It’s a party of people who work with each other all day. Not a rave or a house party with all and sundry The pictures I’ve seen show people in suits standing reasonably far apart with a drink in their hand. Fine them and if it’s a breech of contract take steps to remove them. Done.

If someone else steps in as PM they have the perfect excuse for everything to fall apart …”it was Boris wot done it” they’ll say. Tory or Labour anything that goes wrong with the economy won’t be down to them. Johnson needs to stay and do his term and the voters get to decide at the end.

not sure what you're on about really - it's being reported on the BBC new site, not hidden away somewhere

Hmm[/quote]
I think @JaniieJones complaint is that the Prime Ministers regular errors of judgement are taking up so much space in the news that everything else has been relegated somewhat.

BIWI · 14/01/2022 16:20

Oh look. Another one: breaking news

BIWI · 14/01/2022 16:22

@jgw1

But it isn't though. Plenty of other stories on the BBC website. And in this morning's paper. And on The Guardian's website. And on Sky News' website.

I can't think what else they are complaining about.

kungfupannda · 14/01/2022 16:29

It isn't, we just have loads better photos of her than anyone else.

But also, the Tories like a bit of patriotic culture war shit. So the government having to apologise to the actual monarch for essentially disrespecting her dead husband has particular resonance.

Can’t quote for some reason, but yes to this. Assuming the queen has the same view of Boris as most people on this thread, I would hope it would bring her some grim satisfaction if the image of her doing her duty - duty being something she is known to believe in strongly - is the thing which finally topples someone who seems to have polar opposite views on the subject. There would be a bit of poetic justice in it too - all of Boris’s nationalistic Brexit crap and attempts to be some kind of modern day Winston Churchill, and it’s something else very, very British - the Queen of England and her history of observance of duty - that brings him down.

Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 16:29

Thanks @BIWI, that makes 14 now. God knows how many more will come to light.

'I think JaniieJones complaint is that the Prime Ministers regular errors of judgement are taking up so much space in the news that everything else has been relegated somewhat.'

Oh no my 'complaint' is hysterics like Pippa crerar and Paul brand are whipping you all into a frenzy and it is pathetic. The hyperbole over the Queen sitting alone and how it 'represents the nation'. Bollocks! Most of the action were flouting themselves.

If rules were broken then sack people those individuals, but this constant whining from the msm 'resign prime minister, resign!!' when we all know they're a bunch of lefties who want to get shot of him and get someone else in to attempt to reverse brexit.

I'll ask again why can Starmer booze with his pals and its work, yet for others it's 'parties', hmm?

We don't need any help in reversing Brexit. We have a remainer as Foreign Secretary (we don't need a Brexit minister anymore, now it's done). And a government making such a pigs ear of it they can only be working for the remain campaign undercover.

No. Boris and his cabal cabinet are doing the job nicely thank you. Long may they continue.

Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 16:38

I’ll answer again (God, this is getting tedious) because there’s one photo of him drinking a beer standing next to two people. There are now reports of 14 parties/gatherings/leaving drinks across Whitehall. Is that really too difficult for you?

Notonthestairs · 14/01/2022 16:39

So the fear is that by losing Johnson Brexit will vanish.

You needn't worry. I think Brexit will remain!

But yes I agree if laws were broken those who broke them should resign. It would be excellent to get an independent report on that first.

Hemingwayzcatz · 14/01/2022 16:39

@bakingbernie

Don't you think there are other things to worry about. I would rather our government focused 1) On getting the country back economically after the Pandemic. 2) Sorting out the looming energy crisis. 3) Try to do something about the very real threat of being involved in a war in Ukraine.

Are a few bottles of wine that important?

Can’t actually believe people still have this attitude. At a time when the government told us we legally couldn’t sit on a park fucking bench, they were having parties in 10 Downing Street. Makes a total mockery of everything people sacrificed and indeed of everyone who lost their lives. They’re an embarrassment and people like you who buy into their bullshit rhetoric are too.
thecatsthecats · 14/01/2022 16:40

For people asking why it matters...

I work with young offenders. Care leavers, who have had an appalling start in life, under this Tory government's watch. I spoke to a young man recalled to prison for breaking the terms of his probation. Why? Because he stayed over at his mum's house after his dad's funeral.

Please explain to me how I can tell him that "it's only a few bottles", and that he has to stick to the rules but they don't have to give a fuck.

DGRossetti · 14/01/2022 16:43

So the fear is that by losing Johnson Brexit will vanish.

If Brexit relies on Boris Johnson being in power, it really must be a shit thing.

VikingOnTheFridge · 14/01/2022 16:44

The desperation of the Tory lovers trying to crowbar Brexit into this is just beautiful. Soak it all in!

Oh no you if you consume booze at work it's a party, sorry the media said so. Johnson's zoom Xmas quiz totalled 3 people and that was also a 'party' according to The Mirror.

I'm not a Tory 'lover'. Rather, fastest economic growth no restrictions etc etc interest me far more than workplace drinking.

He was taking a break from a remote meeting, not attending a social event. Starmer was actually working.

For anyone else like me who didn't know who Pippa Crerar and Paul Brand are they are a Mirror journalist and ITN news editor respectively, quite why Janiie thinks they have been whipping us all I don't know.

The Prime Minister on Wednesday in the House of Commons admitted to breaking the law. I assume given that @JaniieJones states that if rules were broken then sack people that he would join me in saying that the Prime Minister must go.

You're making yourself look silly. Boris admitted he attended a party then returned to work 25 minutes later. His words. He didn't need to be drinking.
Flyonawalk · 14/01/2022 16:55

@thecatsthecats That is devastating, and really shows why the case matters!

The country have been played for fools. The rule makers knew how ridiculous the rules were when they made them and when they flouted them. People are right to be angry.
