First off this is not a COVID denier thread.

But I’m wondering what was the weird things you did at the start of the pandemic because you were worried about CV. I’ll go first;

Left my shoes outside the house as was worried about bringing the virus ‘in’ in case someone had coughed on the pavement !

Bleached the door handles daily.

Feel like I was a bit crazy now 😂😭

When I was a teenager I used to do clay pigeon shooting. So I went in my parents attic and got my pellet gun. I honestly thought I would have to use it to scare off looters when the food ran out.

PurpleFlower1983 · 13/01/2022 22:21

Stripped all of my clothes of in the entrance hall and went straight for a shower after work (teacher) while DH washed my clothes.

maddy68 · 13/01/2022 22:22

Wiped all my shopping with bleach. Left my shoes and coats outside incase I brought the virus indoors. Regularly wiped door handles etc

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:22

A local fb group absolutely went for including posting pics of a poor mum with toddlers in the park! No one else was there, no one knew her. It was a horrendous witch hunt.

DrSbaitso · 13/01/2022 22:23

These things weren't nuts at the time though. It was very scary and we didn't know what we were dealing with, how it would pan out, how contagious or dangerous it was.

I froze a lot of food. Including eggs and leeks.

NiceShrubbery · 13/01/2022 22:23

@Notdoingthis

This thread is scary. People are so willing to be brainwashed.
I just do whatever it takes to not get arrested and live my life in peace. Vaxxed, masked, hand-gelled, inwardly free and non-compliant.

Time will tell.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2022 22:24

When my parents finally agreed to a garden visit. I had to sit on a chair with a towel and a bin bag. I had to use the upstairs bathroom, where the light was already on. And the toilet roll already dispensed. I needed to use my dad laptop and it was wrapped in clingfilm before I was allowed to touch it. Hmm

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:24

Putting post into "quarantine" and shopping into quarantine Grin

Normski67 · 13/01/2022 22:24

You’ve got to remember the context of those early days. There were FB videos of HCP putting UV paint in their hands then touching face, trolley, shelves, car doors to demonstrate how covid was transferred. There were memes with titles like ‘if you saw covid would you still go outside’ with giant virus particles bouncing down the road. The narrative was terrifying in those early days.
The gov CEV shielding letters put the fear of god into me.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2022 22:24

My mum
Wore a mask and gloves the whole time. In her own garden.

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:25

Oh yes!! I spent hours chopped and freezing onions and garlic and milk 🤣🤣.

BearYoYo · 13/01/2022 22:25

Madness.

Isntitironic1 · 13/01/2022 22:26

Went shopping in a half mask respirator 😂😂

Noisenough · 13/01/2022 22:26

I packed a "hospital" bag and left a note with passwords for banking etc incase the worst happened. A single mum with teenage children so I thought they would be left alone for periods of time if I got ill (I had the shielding letter) its happened several times in the past but they could rely on staying with grandparents etc in my head they would have to do it alone because of the "rules" God it was stressful, now we are all definitely more relaxed especially after contracting covid pre vaccine. Wouldn't want to get it again Ever was pretty grim but we take sensible precautions and they're 2 years older and out partying more than they are in lol

Accidentgirlfriend · 13/01/2022 22:26

I worked in retail throughout the madness and it was like something we had never seen before . It was like Xmas and Black Friday sales all come together ! I think people thought the world was ending .

I remember being in Asda before work and seeing queues through the store and I was so confused wondering what all the fuss was about so then I said to my dp when I got home “we need to get to Tesco I think this is serious “ and we walked into Tesco and it was surreal . People were walking round with trolleys like zombies just putting anything they could find in the trolley .
I remember panicking coz my parents were at the caravan and didn’t think they would be able to get milk and essentials when they got home .
We were laughing in an aisle with a member of staff and it was a really eery atmosphere . A feeling il probably never forget . We live next to Tesco and people were queuing all down the car park and up the high street . It was like walking into a massive lucky bag not knowing what you was going to come out with .

Gilly12345 · 13/01/2022 22:27

I am waiting for someone to post how they are still using the toilet rolls that they panic shopped at the start of the pandemic.

seven201 · 13/01/2022 22:27

My dh was the main worrier.

One day we had the washing out in the garden and then heard the neighbour had covid. Because they might have gone out in the garden he insisted on re-washing the clothes!

When we went for walks with young dd he'd say "we've got to keep moving" any time she stopped. I felt like I was in an apocalypse film.

I will not miss the endless shopping washing!

stairway · 13/01/2022 22:28

We bought nicotine patches when French doctors thought smokers didn’t suffer so much from covid. I tried one and it made me so queasy.

Alayalaya · 13/01/2022 22:28

Yes there was a lot of terrifying media about how disease was spread and how dangerous it was to go out. Our council voted to close the children’s playgrounds, largely because the insurers refused to cover them in case children caught Covid from touching the equipment. The lockdown and panic buying was unprecedented, I felt like I was in a movie - no wonder we were all terrified.

thepeopleversuswork · 13/01/2022 22:28

oh and I also bought insane amounts of groceries. I did a huge bulk order from a farm that I found online (in the days when finding an Ocado slot was a FT job) and ended up with about 400 eggs Grin

hangrylady · 13/01/2022 22:29

Err I wore a mask and washed my hands more often Confused

MadeOfStarStuff · 13/01/2022 22:30

Only left my house once a month to get my regular prescription and top up the electricity.

When I did start venturing out for little walks (not touching anything or being close to anyone!) I would shower as soon as I got home and left the lights on went I went out so I wouldn’t have to touch them when i came back and was all contaminated by outside germs.

I thankfully never got into washing my groceries because I had enough sense to realise its very difficult to do without cross contaminating everything anyway, and that my mental health would not be able take the extra anxiety it would cause not being able to do it properly.

I’ve had anxiety for many years anyway, covid definitely didn’t help!

Theunamedcat · 13/01/2022 22:30

The worst that we did was I ordered some pet things from zooplus (I think) then there was a report that the warehouse they were being dispatched from was overrun with covid cases and had to close they still delivered my stuff so I glived snd masked up stripped it on my doorstep put the cat litter under the stairs in isolation for a few days and washed everything else in soapy water before it came in the house none of the packaging came in

It seems crazy now but we didnt know at the time if it stayed on surfaces like cardboard for an extended period or not

OfCourseIDontMind · 13/01/2022 22:30

After not being able to leave S.E. Asia for 14 months because of covid, we finally managed to get flights home.
The threat was very real. Few people were vaccinated, including us and there isn't the medical infrastructure there like there is in the UK.
We were dressed like this. We weren't the only ones. We might have looked like Lego people but we didn't catch the virus. Had to travel through 4 major airports to get home because flights were being cancelled and airports were closed all over the world.

To ask what the most COVID bonkers thing you did about
HippeePrincess · 13/01/2022 22:33

Stood outside my step grans house and put shopping on her doorstep standing back from the door once or twice a week for months.

Stuck to "the rules" for the most part, didn't see family for months.

Met up with 4 family members outside in the middle of fucking nowhere for a walk and we walked in a 3 and a 2 swapping over every so often because of "the rules"
